A Better Year

Standing on a stool peeking over the wall
that separates this year from the next…
I can barely see anything at all.
This new year is born on the dead leaves of the last.

It is tainted and contaminated and sick from the start.

If our world were a restaurant, trying to make it today,
If kindness is not waiting on tables,
and love, compassion, gratitude and humility,
are not on the menu…well, good luck staying open!

If we can’t see, we have so much in common
with absolutely anyone walking down the street,
the fact we’re all human, alive, and living on earth…
rooting in the same block, shopping at the same store..
with fears of tomorrow, but hopes for the future,
bad dreams and days we just smile all the time…
Please look closer… and longer,

She has that, so does he, and they’re worrying now,
and he is counting his change, and wondering if he can pay the rent.
He’s buying a gift for his lover, she buying a suit to bury her husband
and abundance is not the word for this last year unless you put
insanity after it!
An abundance of  insanity, of absurdity, an abundance of sickness

an abundance of surrealism and uncertainty……
What was lacking was an abundance of humanity
One for the other and one for all…

I personally hope for the time to come soon,
when wishing a total stranger a Happy New Year,
won’t be taken as an assault, or an act of insanity.

Where people won’t run away or call the police,  or block me on facebook,
but just reply to me easily and sincerely,

“I hope 2021 is a better year for you too.”

      • Habeebity Diana, big hugs to you dear poet 🤗 and thank you for your words as it is mutual and meeting you and David and so many this year, has been a blessing! It was like actually becoming part of this community, where before, I just posted my poetry and walked away.. I never knew the WordPress community, all the diverse creators and writers, thinkers, doodlers that we have here. This is the blessing of 2020 for me…the big surprise!! To start reading who else was on WordPress, and just marveling on how diverse and international our little community is!! It was an eye-opener, and it took me from feeling like I was flying solo, to feeling part of a wonderfully talented, supportive and yes, very loving group of creative people. Alhamdulillah! Inspire and write my sweet friend..2021 needs words and thoughts like yours!!! ❤️❤️🤗🙏❤️❤️🌺🌹🌸🌺🌹

    • Thank you very much Cherie. I am so glad you left this comment, because I have not been able to comment on your blog. It asks for my WordPress credentials and I give it and my password and it still does not approve me. Not sure what else I can do:) May this be a better year for us all and you and your family, and all the important education you are giving and your passionate blog for helping the marginalized and abused by the bullies of this world. You are a role model for touching people and bringing real changes in their lives.. Blessings!

Thank you so much, Karima. And I’m so sorry you aren’t able to comment. WP has a lot of bugs and there are other bloggers who tell me the same. I’ve reported the problem several times but it seems I’m getting nowhere with it. Again, thank you so much for your kindness. It means a lot. ❤❤❤

Such profound thoughts habeebity, so many truths there. It really was a year of insanity, absurdity but in some way this year has taught me so much. Value of time, loved ones, who your real friends are, if any, because people come to you for benefits, Covid came in and you must have also seen people change and now irony of life people again changed as things started to get better. But I feel so happy and blessed to meet some of the very best people here, strangers whom I have never met but not strangers anymore. ❤️❤️🤗🤗❤️❤️ Beautifully written as always, I shouldn’t say this I guess because I think myself so meagre to judge your beautiful words. Love and hugs always🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️

    • You know, UmAnzar, you can always say anything you wish about my poetry..even if you don’t like it or agree, please feel free to always tell me:) We are friends and even friends see things differently at times. I agree with you, This hard year brought some good things too.. you for one:)🤗 and so many new poetic friends that I met this year After being on WordPress for 10 years !! haha, I finally found the community:):) When we connect with each other, through our stories or art, or poetry..we really are no longer strangers..just friends, who probably will not meet face to face..but once the connection is made, it is up to us to keep it going..and it is possible.. as you see with Natasha Randt and myself, making videos together going on 9 years and never seeing each other in the real life. I hope this next year is a better one for you and for all. May you and your family thrive, be healthy and happy and full of love and Life’s experiences.. and may you keep writing and sharing your beautiful thoughts with us all. Love and light always …❤️🤗🙏💐⭐️

    • My dear friend, UmAnzar,(how is that little tornado today? MashAllah) Now you see why I do believe we don’t have to be in the same country or the same space, to make a connection, a good one , beneficial for both, as I have experienced this with Natascha. Two people can share ideas, their art, their hopes and fears and their friendship from great distances. I remember in the 80’s before the internet, we had pen pals, people we wrote to from far away, and sometimes, those connections stayed a long time, for many years! As said in an earlier post, I am so happy to have met you, Alhamdulillah, and know that I cherish your words, your poetry, your way of being and expressing yourself, as you say you do mine. May we both feel the creative desire to share our thoughts and memories, our hopes and even fears in our poetry and in our friendship..Love and many hugs, UmJulian:) ❤️🤗🤗🙏🙏❤️🌺🌼🌹🌸

Thank you soooo much for all your love and InshaAllah we will continue to share our stories of life. I will share my stories and love and in return I will be getting so much of life lessons to learn from you UmJulian love and big hugs ❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗🤗
