Are You The Virgin Mary?
==============================
I was asked today
if I were the Virgin Mary.
Two small girls
in cautious timidity
approached me.
They were right to ask,
for what else could I be?…
dressed in white silk
from head to foot,
scarf framing face
robe slapping thighs
in the wind like a flag,
face and hands
white too in contrast to
a beach full of
suntanned bikini limbs.
Stopped still, pen paralyzed
Sitting in front of the ocean
semi-hypnotized,
inspired by their sweet question
I smiled….
Everything the tide brings in
has been good for me.
Even the bitter weeds were
nourishing in the end.
By simply trusting that
I am the creation, not the creator.
I’ve seen
some miracles performed.
I believed in the impossible
and witnessed its birth.
Today I watch that son surf a wave.
a man alive against prediction,
his birthday, our small celebration
after fourteen barren years,
who was never demanded or expected,
only hoped and prayed for,
after hope was almost lost.
I moved in closer,
saw my son grab a wave,
answering them as if
we were sharing a secret
“Yes, I am…..a little bit,
but shhhhh… don’t tell”

*Footnote, I am a “hijaby”
( I am a Muslim who wears hijab in public by choice)
What a piece Karima. What a piece. The innocence of the child (sometimes reflected in ourselves) our choices, our struggles.
“I am the creation, not the creator.
I’ve seen
some miracles performed”
so beautifully expressed.
“I moved in closer,
saw my son grab a wave,”
Beautiful imagery and wonderful meanings in this poem.
You rock.

That’s so rewarding for me to hear. When I wrote this down, it was in my pre-blogging days. I started really posting in 2011, and I never imagined anyone, would ever read it…except my family:) xoxo

That is wonderful. 🙂 You attract stories everywhere you go. And I’m sure it’s because the universe knows you will weave them into poetry!

Habeebiti, how beautiful, to find your comment come in! I wish it was a picture of me, but alas, there was no one that actual day who had a camera. I tried to find one similar, at least to how I was dressed:) Thank you for loving this poem..I tried so hard to capture that moment, and luckily I had my notebook with me.. I thought I might write about the sea, but those little sweethearts were my true inspiration for my day. Big hugs and thank you again, for your always, marvelous comments.. that make my poetic soul soar!🙏🤗❤️🔆🌸🌈

Simply stunning. Just – just – stunning, really.
BTW, my mom had several miscarriages before and after I was born. Then, unexpectedly, almost 20 years later, my brother was born to my parents.

You are a treasure UmAnzar! The way you sink into my words and feel them around you, is very special to me. This was a moment that could only happen in a Catholic country, like Costa Rica… and I was so touched by this incident, I wrote about it immediately…right on the spot. I thought this was really sweet. I can just so clearly picture those children curiously approaching the speaker in the poem to ask them this question. I was there on that beach that day – right in the middle of the story. I felt the wind on my face and the sand inbetween my toes. Your beautiful writing took me there ❤

Beautifully vivid. I feel like I am standing beside you watching these children. Children are so innocent and trusting. What a beautiful conversation about those surrounding oneself. Those things we have to be grateful for and all our blessings. What a thought provoking means of writing of writing poetry. xoxoxxo Joni

Yes Joni..I agree with you…It’s always the little things that are so miraculous. As poets and writers, we are always expected to see that..share those moments..In some way we do the job, for others, who get too caught up in the daily, to take the time to see. Your comment made me so happy..You are so generous as well as an excellent writer. Thank you again!❤️🤗🙏

You are most welcome. I am grateful to Gabriela (Button) for introducing you and some additional poets that I had not heard of before through MasticadoresUSA. This poem truly shows your intuitive and curious nature about others. It is not just the flesh which is so temporary that one should see but way beyond that. You are one such person and I am guessing incredibly intuitive as well. Have a blessed day. ❤️🤗 love, Joni

I too am grateful to Gabriel for inviting me to submit..I have already met some very interesting and really good poets…You welcomed me immediately and I will never forget that.I am intuitive…I work off of intuition I would say..am a Double-Pisces (not sure how much I am into astrology) but it seems to fit as far as intuition goes..I see you are too..as we say, “It takes one to know one” So glad I am getting a chance to know you,Joni,t hrough your comments and your outstanding poetry!🤗❤️🦋
