Painting by Evelyn Hamilton
You Snored Like a Bird
For U.
I never believed people like you existed:
When you hovered off the ground instead of walking…
When you laughed, I heard wind chimes tinkling
around the corners of your eyes,
When we laughed so hard, I honestly thought I would die.
Is great humor not the sexiest thing besides…?
…besides silk and velour, leather, sandalwood and an attitude?
How many times did we laugh until we kissed?
How many times did I pinch myself, to make sure
I was not dreaming?
When we spent our first night together…
You snored..but you snored like a bird;
you snored in notes, and down feathers,
Springtime and indigo blue.
Your rhythm was perfect; you were pitch-perfect too.
Your hair fell over the pillowcase like a waterfall
Who were you really?
Even I was not that imaginative to have invented you.
I certainly was not worthy and yet you loved me.
How could I not love you?
How could I not fear that this could never last?
If I was wrong about everything else, my love
I was certainly right about that.
One day, you woke up, glided out the gate
down the middle of the path and that was that.
All the magic you suspended over us,
all the uncanny, the wondrous
fell like heavy air…everywhere.
I still have never found another soul,
to laugh with me and hypnotize the room,
to beguile and bewitch and kiss my lips
and who snored with me in harmony.

Beautifully crafted and delivered to us all, Karima. So much love, wonder, and passion in your verse. This is so gorgeous,
“I still have never found another soul,
to laugh with me and hypnotize the room,
to beguile and bewitch and kiss my lips
and who snored with me in harmony.”
Beautiful, beautiful, my dear friend. 🙏❤🤗🌷✨

Thank you fellow poet and friend, for your beautiful comment.. Ironically, I think I was just reviewing your latest too in perfect synchronicity. The truth is some souls are so unique, it’s hard, rather impossible to find another. There is always that tendency to look, but, it’s a futile journey.🤗❤️🌹🔆

And, there it is, synchronicity indeed. Lovely. Ah, yes, I completely understand, dear Karima. You’re most welcome, my friend. Always! ❤️🤗🌺😆

Thank you so much David, for this comment. It means a lot and your words reassure me, it was fine to write this poem today..Years might go by, but a dream or just anything, might coax me one more time to try to describe another level of her.. my once in a lifetime platonic love affair:) I know you understand what I am trying to say here. Thank you❤️

Wow Karima, this is just so deeply beautiful. The ebbs and flows of emotion are palpable and so perfectly described. You took my heart on a ride, and I could feel each word so vividly. The flow is so nostalgic, tender and dreamy…YOU are truly an amazing writer. And that ending is so special and precious, it really ties the whole piece together 🖤🖤

Yet another powerful love-filled beautiful piece, habeebity ❤️ some people are like that UmJulian, they are like birds, spread colors all around and silently they fly away. May be here, they were caged. 😊 Lovely❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗

Hugs habeebity! You know who this one is for..My real life soap opera, I will never write out..just hint at from time to time in poetry. i would say she was the freest of birds until her own illness caged her in..How sad, but true. But yes, in her day she spread color all around and I can still dip my word brush in them..and paint a memory.. Love you Habeebity…Thank you for you loving and supportive friendship. Jazak Allah UmAnzar❤️🤗❤️🤗🔆

So much perfection in this piece! The title instantly caught me as one of my favorites. And this whole part just rises so high:
“When we spent our first night together…
You snored..but you snored like a bird;
you snored in notes, and down feathers,
Springtime and indigo blue.
Your rhythm was perfect; you were pitch-perfect too.
Your hair fell over the pillowcase like a waterfall
Who were you really?”
Very outstanding. I’m so impressed!

That painting by Evelyn Hamilton is simply beautiful. The girl in the painting looks almost trapped behind the strokes of the brush. And as for your words… they were simply captivating. I think I can understand the feeling of when you love someone believing that every little thing they say or do sounds beautiful and feels like heaven. And the indescribable hurt when they leave can feel almost impossible to bear.
