“Zwischen Nacht und Nirgendwo-Between Night and Nowhere”

Hope you will play the YouTube and here is the story behind it:)

This phrase came from a fever dream, my film partner, Natascha,
had while very ill and when she told me about it,
all the lights of inspiration went blinking off in my head!!

I found the phrase intriguing, compelling and more than that,
I found it challenging as well as inspiring.

After she described the whole dream, seeing her father again (who she lost very young)  asking him questions, in a garden of her childhood, I was inspired to write this poem for her…

but not until, I too had an image to join with hers, one of my country, Costa Rica,
in the time of burning off the cane fields.

I saw in my mind, that we were riding through a smokey, hazy rural landscape, that is very representative of my Costa Rica, in the month of March; the heat of the burning fields was in harmony with her burning fever.

From Nat’s dream, it became this poem, that you will hear in the video
and like magic, my 15th world on Kitely – Virtual Worlds on Demand was born!

I want to thank my film partner and creative twin,
Natascha Randt, for having such a cool and amazing dream.

This is a real first for me…that someone else’s dream, could inspire me to go crazy and create a world where it could be showcased.

Nat did a really incredible job, building and bringing her dream part and installation alive.
I just swirled a world around it and made a way to get to it…:)

In the end…the two of us built our fantasies, Zwischen Nacht und Nirgendwo and we filmed it in 2018, but I left a few days later for Ramadan in Jordan, and never shared it on my blog or promoted it at all..

P.S. A special thank-you to  Dale Innis, once again, for being such an excellent virtual building partner and scripter, and to get our roadster to actually climb up and down instead of horizontally or vertically plowing through the mountain pass or taking us upside down and underground like it wanted to do at first :):)

    • Aww thank you dearest Ace… so glad I could take you for a ride. If you actually visited this virtual world sometime, you could get in the back seat..write /1 start in chat and off you would go..on a beautiful but at times perilous ride. Nat captured it so well with her camera and in her beautiful still work too.. So glad you enjoyed the magic we tried to prepare for you:):)🙏🌹❤️🌟💐

This is a great video! The poem, the build, the voice and camerawork and the music.

Maybe someday I’ll actually figure out the 3D rotation support in SL/Opensim scripting, rather than just tweaking things at random until they stop turning upside-down… XD

    • Haha Dale…meanwhile… your workarounds are LEGENDARY:) I could have never gotten that popcorn eating chauffeur to get us up the hill if you hadn’t put a Macgyver on it:) That was a fun challenge and loved hanging out in that landscape too while we figured it out:)

Nat’s camera work and still really captured the whole dreamlike ambiance..So glad you came along Again..for a ride Joey🤗❤️🌹🌟

I loved this, Karima. Your beautiful poetry reading, accompanied by the beautiful virtual landscape is so stunning. Takes the breath away, while giving back so much. The concept of between night and nowhere is deliciously representative of so many things, and resonated with me deeply in regard to life as it sprouts up before us, and is, in effect, as you write/read, planted within us. Beautiful, my dear friend.❤️🦋🙏✨🤗

    • Thanks so much Jeff..Yes!! As you say…” The concept of between night and nowhere is deliciously representative of so many things” It struck me in the moment too, but I am lucky that I can create virtual worlds and I knew I HAD to try with this idea and then leave a space, “upstairs” in the sky, for Nat’s build where she could recreate her dream in her Grandmother’s garden when she was 3 or 4. So after touring the Costa Rican landscape, in the hazy ambience of the cane fields burning, a visitor to the world will be directed to Nat’s installation that she lovingly built with photographs she has saved and her childhood memories, plus the dream she actually had while sick. Somehow these two ideas work together and I think Nat captured it all well with her VR filming technique:) So pleased you enjoyed it as I think many people missed seeing it 3 years ago, for my not promoting it.

    • Big Big smiles..so glad you enjoyed your ride Kaushal:):) I had so much fun trying to bring this idea to life…and as I said, It was Nat’s dream..so there I was building her dream..or at least a surreal two layer landscape she could build her own dream in…The poem came after the world…as I had to be in that ambience for awhile, to write it.. The creative duo wave back:) I know Nat will love this comment too:) Nat is the eye that so wonderfully films all our works.. Thank you Thank you my friend and you too…stay shining and inspired!!🙏🤗❤️

So amazingly gorgeous. Such an incredible experience. Telling or sharing what the story (the dream) was about really helped to get in the mood. I felt like your voice and the beautiful piece you wrote with the movie animation was perfectly timed. Everything about it. I also loved the horses and that beautiful car and landscape. Your team is incredibly talented. So glad I visited this evening. What a treat before bed. What a beautiful land to visit. Thank you for all the hard collective work that went into this productive and for sharing its beauty.

I am just amazed at the your team’s talent. Your voice is hypnotic and beautiful to listen too. I wouldn’t call that a little project either. It was a full on lovely production with great music which complimented your voice and your poem was so descriptive and took us right there. The animation was also so amazing. The timing blew me away. I have been trying to catch up since my procedure on my back and it only takes a day and you have already miss so many beautiful post. I left yours for last and knew it would be a treat but I wasn’t expecting another movie. Thank you for what you do it really is a treat. Sending you lots of love, hugs and prayers dear Karima. ❤️❤️🤗😘🦋🌺🌺
        Blessings,

I am reading now about the technology. I am sorry I did not understand. I am researching Machinima really means. Thank you Karima. So are the actors filmed in their locations doing different movements and then they are put together? I am still a bit confused. I will read more and hopefully will grasp the concept better. Thanks for being patient with me. It is super impressive so I am interested in the technology. Talk soon hugs my amazing friend Karima. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Amazing. I wrote a response on you tube. I loved it and watched “El Kombo Style.” Bravo. I loved it. I must have my head in the sand because I have never seen anything like this but in the movies. The movie Brave came to mind, the animation feature with the beautiful red headed girl. So wonderful. I loved that movie. What a trip it must be to watch yourself like that. Wow!!! You all are something else. I applaud you all. 💃💃💃🎸love Joni. Thank you so much for sharing this with me it means a lot Karima. ❤️🤗🦋💃💃

    • Yes all the actors are together virtually in the same virtual space although thousands of miles from each other. We film in real time meaning all need to be present to shoot a scene, just like in a movie. I think you will enjoy this video focusing on the University of western Australia and how they have opened a machinima department and festival…It’s super interesting…Nat and I are interviewed for a few seconds too..It will give you a better idea how machinima is made https://youtu.be/JWx1KVG7hAo Happy to help you Joni..It is a fascinating Looking Glass World:)

You are so sweet Karima to take the time to educate me about this. I will watch this tomorrow morning when I am fresh. It sounds like fun and challenging at the same time. I will watch this and get back to you. I am surprised you are not working in LA some where. Love to you, have a wonderful evening. ❤️❤️❤️

  10. Wow!! Thank you Joni…I will pass this on to Nat…This means so much to us both..It’s really a sort of magical, other layer of existence, where people can collaborate on all different levels, maybe never dreamed about 20 years ago.. I love your empathy and your willingness to just open yourself to what we do..It is a REAL TRiP as you say…Each movie is a journey into our minds and pushes our envelopes to be able to realize what we imagine… The wonderful thing is…we almost always can..smiles, we have learned some trick and work arounds over the last 9 years:) Thank you so much for your interest and these wonderful comments..I cherish them🤗❤️🌹❣️🙏
