Settling In To Reality

Slide1 2

Settling in to reality..

when everything we used to do
when everything we used to see
when we had hopes and dreams
when we worked together in a room
and laughed together on the weekend…
that when, when, when is gone.
People we loved are gone,
Our easy breezy days of living
Gone…

As we settle in to reality.

I only hope there comes a time
when children will watch the LCD
and wonder if this is a horror movie
they are seeing, instead of a scene
from 2020…
where people hide their faces
and there’s emptiness in the streets
and so much anger, violence, fighting
road rage, domestic abuse and killing sprees…

Settling in to reality.

Then there are:
the apocalyptic forest fires
the heat waves,
the flash floods
the hurricanes…
one after another,
coming so fast,
we are running out of names.
The days are shorter,
weeks disappear
we wonder if our planet
can hold itself together
another 100 years?
Jobs are scarce,
love is scarcer…
If you find either,
get down on your knees.
Nothing is promised,
because promises are hard to keep.
In the shifting shades of grey of every day…

Settling in to reality.

Almost doesn’t feel right to press Like, but this is a perfect description of the thing I don’t like. May we all have those times back again soon!

    • InshAllah Dale…I am hoping that too…but things are still not like before and probably will never be..Perhaps we can hold out for a post-pandemic time..where people are better to each other and the planet too…I would love to think that’s possible

Phew, that is one powerful poem, Karima. I so appreciate this piece for standing in the realities on this planet. Avoiding them, or pretending they do not exist, will only cause further damage. This is a soul stirring piece, my friend, which I greatly appreciate you for sharing with us today. Oh, and this here, “If you find either,
get down on your knees.” Fantastical, and so true. ❤🎉🙏🤗✨💖

    • Ohh Jeff thank you! Thank you for saying this too, “I so appreciate this piece for standing in the realities on this planet. ” I am serious when I said, I wasn’t ready to write this today, but my muse insisted..and I got swept up. As you say we can’t pretend they don’t exist and yet we all strive to make our lives as whole as possible within this reality that circles and is impossible to totally avoid. Inner strength is so important now…and also hope..we just can’t ever give up on that entirely!! Yes jobs and love are scarce..Just being alive is not a given..Gratitude for all and anything we have..so many don’t.. Thank you again dear friend for your encouraging comment ❤️🤗🙏🌟❣️✨🦋

You’re most welcome, Karima. Always. I understand the instruction from the muse – we must listen. Mmm. Yes, inner stength is so important right now, completely agree. And, gratitude for everything, all things, every breath, yes indeed. Feel the same, my dearest friend. ❤️🦋🙏🌺🥰

  5. Yes, I agree, Karima, reality HAS become scary. And that you speak of these truths, directly making us face them, raising awareness in such a poetic, yet truthful manner, I really felt your words and emotions behind this piece.

Wow my dear Karima, what a strong and powerful piece. Thank you for sharing this one! I love how you totally flowed with your authenticity and stayed true to you in writing this different piece of yours. No matter the meaning of your work, you always do an AMAZING job of weaving your words so divinely. And it’s funny how reality can be seen through so many different eyes/dimensions. Well done, my dear friend 🖤🤗

    • Thank you dear Ace…honestly, I was shocked I was writing this..(not usually my subject matter) but my subconscious was obviously pondering this new reality of ours.. and as you know, as poets we need to see the flow to the end..And you are right, there are many ways to see our reality..I usually try and see all the positive aspects we still have eveni nside this “outer reality” our backdrop..There is still much compassion, collaboration and goodness in the world..no denying it.. and I see this too..I LOVE to see this part but…but.. this other is a melody that plays in the background of our future plans..”maybe I can travel to Jordan if….”
Maybe i could make a small celebration ifI keep it Small!! etc etc. Big hugs for your honest and also appreciation..Big Hugs for you always habeebity 🤗❤️🙏❣️ 🌟🦋

    • Awww habeebity,,big hugs and thank yous..Yes I believe we should be grateful for all the positives that still can come into our lives.. and there are many…but really, things have changed…as Kaushal points out,,,who knows for how long. …when is gone.. really gone forever. We all feel alike, Karima, but the way bad things are happening, I’m of the considered view that these things will not halt. I may look pessimistic, but writing is on the wall. This piece of yours is unique, both in content and style, but like me, all will share your concern. Thank you for posting it as a reminder 👍💐💖🌷

    • Thank you so much Kaushal for your words..yes we all choose better things to write about these days, but then something happens, the sickness of a friend, the loss of a neighbor, and we are shocked back into the greater reality that is swirling around us, Still, beauty, art, poetry, the good parts of humanity..all this is still with us..Alhamdulillah. Yes, your word “reminder” is a good one..not to sink ourselves into hopeless depression, but just open our eyes now and then and see what is making up reality these days.. Thank you my friend, for understanding..why my muse felt compelled to write this one.. 🤗❤️🦋❣️💎

  10. The best poetry comes from the heart. So many of us feel the same. You still manage to shine the light on so much suffering in a beautiful, well observed way. There is a wise message in there regarding the scarcity of love and true kindness ❤️

I felt like you were writing what I have been feeling lately. So much truth in this piece Karima. All the things going on does mean that we don’t have control, people like to think we do but it is not in our hands. We can only do our individual parts and try to make people aware which this piece certainly does. What is happening to our beautiful world, it is already turning upside down. Provocative and truthful. Love your work Karima. Sending my love and again my prayers as well. Love you, Joni

  12. Sad times we are living in. What a strong look (and somewhat bleak) look at the future. Let’s have hope for a turnaround. This is really well written. Eschatological poetry.
