Toucan Logic
“You look like me,” said the Toucan
to another Toucan, eating a banana.
“Should we fight?”
“Why? Because we look like each other?”
“No, because there is only one banana.”
“The robins do it all the time.”
“They fight all the time; their wings make clicking sounds.”
“They make dogfights in the air.”
“They make dogfights? They are birds.”
“True, but we are birds too; so do you want to fight?”
“No, I want to eat this banana..”
“Well so do I!”
“So I will eat the left half; you eat the right.”
“But I want the left half; I’ll give you the right.”
“But..I am perched here, on the left.”
“I really don’t want to move; I want to eat.”
“I really don’t want to eat on the right.”
“Why? what’s wrong with the right?”
“It has less left than the left.”
“But you ate it. You are a faster eater than me.”
“I’m still hungry and there’s not much left.”
“O.K. I will move to the right. Now are you happy?”
“No.”
“You’re not happy?”
“No.”
“Because you just wanted to fight?”
“Yes.”
“O.K. Let’s do it. Let’s fight!….Just know something…
If we fight, we will never talk again. That’s O.K. with you?”
“Not really. It’s not really O.K.”
“Do you like talking to me?”
“Yes I do. We’re both Toucans. We look the same.”
“Just eat your banana O.K.?”
“O.K.”
( They ate their banana and they never did have to fight)

Costa Rica (Observing Toucans at my feeder:)
How beautifully you’ve written this lovely story of 2 toucans…same kind…dogfights…what’s right…left or right…what’s left, right…peace in the end, light…they remained friends, nice…they respected their own kind, wise…just look at the humankind, blind…not all but most of them are hungry for more fight, why…I understand, that’s the point you were making through this beautiful write…Karima, you’re simply amazing with your deep lines…keep expressing from your heart shine 💫

Thank you so much Navin for you beautiful words. This little dialog is something very different for me, but it just happened as I was observing the birds eating, fighting and also eating peacefully side by side. Thank you so much for seeing so deeply into this dialog. Yes, we all have known some people who love to take the contrary side..but when really pushed would rather not lose a friendship over a silly discussion:) Unfortunately as you say, many are just “hungry for more fight” Oh sad but true! That you generous one for leaving me this comment. I loved it:):)

I did read in your post that you were observing the 2 toucans at your feeder…and I loved how you made this observation into this beautiful writing…but when I read it, I was actually “watching” that scene in real-time through the power of your writing & those lovely photos…and then I felt right away a deeper picture…just like that…so thank you for sharing this beautiful writing, Karima & made me see what I just did ✨

It’s so interesting..actually the same thing happened to me when I was observing them…I had to stage a reenactment as at the time, I was not with my camera in hand.. but yes the same thing ocurred to me and I too saw the “human side” in them.. Inspiration can come from the oddest things and at the oddest times..I always give free reign to my muse when she is up to something new:) Thank you for this wonderful discussion..This is what I love about WordPress..it is the perfect platform to connect and talk in our case..about poetry and writing and the transcendental side to Life:)

Oh how beautiful is that habeebity. How you observe and then pen it down putting in your elements of wisdom is just awesome. I so love your observation of these lovely birds and correlating them to us humans. How wise are the creatures who don’t speak and what a pity for us who speak but still not able to live peacefully. I love you Habeebity for what a person you are MashaAllah 🥰❤️🤗 keep shining your light 💕🤗❤️🥰

Habeebity, you leave me speechless!! Thank you dear soul for your depth and your own observations of Life and how we live it… Yes opening our mouths too much can usually get us in trouble:) In the end we are far much more similar than different.. Love you too UmAnzar for your beautiful soul that shines through your lines. ❤️🤗🌹🙏

Hugs Joey!! So glad you enjoyed it:) Yes I am lucky and have several species, the Aracaris are a smaller version and are more abundant. They look like they are wearing tie-dyed tshirts:) https://filedn.com/l7Df4R6F1DTBv0B99l7YP6L/Aracari.jpg. but the ones I shot here is the biggest Toucan as you can see in relation to the window. It’s a huge bird:)

Once I had told you that you observe things very minutely. This post once again proves it. You have a knack of not only minute observation, but also of putting it down in black and white with the same ease, coupled with awesome imagination. The hidden message is also there in this poem for humans. Very well written, Karima! Really enjoyed it.😊💐💖🙏

Thank you David…although many times my poetry is more serious, romantic or philosophic, as I said above in a reply, I trust me muse when she beckons me to try something different:) So glad you enjoyed the outcome:)
