Oh Blues

Please listen to my recording of my poem, “Oh Blues.” The excellent instrumental rendition of Gary Moore’s Midnight Blues is played by a dear friend, who goes by the name of Dirty Dom:)

The Blues take me away.. from all of this..
I ride on your high notes, like a dolphin surfing the waves.. in cool water
I close my eyes and soar..I am above this world… that is falling apart below me
I am above my life that is caught in a snare.

I duet with each riff and in my veins the harmony is playing.
I see it all unfold down below like a bunch of ants battling to extinction
and above, I see what has called me since I was very young…
but somehow I got hung up on the little heavier things and forgot to follow
my voices to the light…

Now the light is coming down for me…May I be where I’m supposed to be
in just the right place to meet it with an idiot smile on my face.
These blues have been sung up and down and for the greatest while
and yet..I am changed for the better, well I can only hope that’s true
because I feel it inside me from my heart to my shoes..
Ahhh my music that inspires and makes me weep with joy,
makes me weep with
our human tragedy.

Oh Blues take me away.. from all of this..
I ride on your high notes like a dolphin surfing the waves.. in cool water
I close my eyes and soar..I am above the world that is falling apart below me
I am above my life that is caught in a snare.

I duet with each riff and in my veins… the harmony is playing
I see it all unfold down below like a bunch of ants, battling to extinction
and above, I see what has called me since I was young..
but somehow I got hung up on the little heavier things and forgot to follow
my voices to the light.

Now the light is coming down for me…May I be where I’m supposed to be
in just the right place to meet it with an idiot smile on my face.
Blues come break me open, this fragile casing and set me free.
I want to be floating up to meet that light, by the time it comes for me

Blues ready and steady me… in my final hour.

Ohhhhh that music! The beat and the wailing guitar underlying your words so perfectly; people MUST listen to it, and not only read the words, lovely though they are. The whole combined experience is The Thing.

    Indeed!

A gorgeous poem, and the reading is stunning. I love to listen to you read your pieces, Karima. It’s wondrous; and the music, ah, so amazing and soothing. Your poem speaks to me of that fragile time when we are breaking again and again, and are looking toward that space within, the clearing where the light will shine on us, showing us new aspects of ourselves. I adore this entire experience, my dear friend. Wishing you a blessed and beautiful week, Karima! 🙏❤️🤗

    • Thank you so much Jeff…I vibrated to this track, the first time I heard it…had considered using it for a video…but then it became a poem:) Love your interpretation Jeff, and totally agree with you..that Dan’s music is amazing as it flows along. As you know, music is a big source of inspiration for my poetry, and when I do recitals, it’s always to music. Thank you so much for taking the time and playing the recording..I am thrilled you allowed yourself to experience it like that.. Have a great week too Jeff..🤗❤️🙏🌹

    • Oh, thank you for listening Kaushal…and closing your eyes is a very good way to hear Blues:) This poem was born from the music..so it should fit well and ride on the guitar lines… Music is almost always transcending for me..but a good wailing, talking, crying Blues guitar…is the next level… I really appreciate your comment Kaushal…thank you again❤️🤗🙏🌹

  9. Your words and the music complement each other beautifully. I find it wonderful that we can all find some music to inspire us, to make us relax, or to lift us up. Music becomes a universal language which we can all use to complement our writing.

    • Hi David! I’m so glad you listened to the recording and enjoyed it!! I totally agree with you what you say about music… It is a universal language and many times it does not speak to our ears…but to our souls. It is my great facilitator..to start the words to flow:) What would Life be…without it?

    • Ohhhh:) thank you Navin your words are so encouraging,,and so wonderful to read.. I was just letting this amazing guitar piece play on loop…and before I knew it, a poem was being pulled down from above…it felt like that…the lead guitar, switching, harmonizing, playing with the other, was just the catalyst to help me lose myself, in this musical flow. It means so much to me, you enjoyed how it all fit together.. Thank you for thinking so highly of me as an artist….you know, this is mutual dear Navin 🙏🤗❤️🦋

Wow my dear friend, you are amazing. That piece of music was spectacular. Your words and the music blended to become one voice. Your sultry sexy voice blending with that great piece of music. I was lost in the music and your voice on the back porch where I listen to your work surrounded by nature, I can really enjoy it to the full extent this blended beauty deserves. I love how you describe your transcendence above all the tragedy and sadness in our world.

“Ahhh my music that inspires and makes me weep with joy, makes me weep with our human tragedy. Oh Blues take me away.. from all of this.. These lines are all so beautiful. We do get hung up at times and have to wake ourselves up, I struggle with this at times too. This really spoke to me Karima, as you are right there is so much light in the world too. Love, kindness of others, the beauty you observed in the water and a light that reminds us we are not alone.

Thank you my sweet friend for this treat, an audio treat all around, BRAVO! Love Joni

    • Oh Joni…you just might be one of the most appreciative souls…and how you get me! I can imagine you, out on the porch, nature surrounding you…and hearing this piece…It gives me such a thrill..what an amazing level of connection, the internet can provide us.. With all it’s negatives and separators, it also can be a vehicle to join us…I feel your backyard breeze blows my hair off my face…the Blues riffs are playing and Bingo!! an Amazing moment is born. You feel it…I feel it..Tme and Space mean nothing….we are together:) Thank you for allowing my poem and this music…to speak to you… what more could a poet ever dream might happen….than this? Much love and thank you for …….being Joni…and being in my poetic world🙏❤️🤗

Yes but you are right with my earphones surrounded by nature all around it was so beautiful. Your words blending with the music was incredibly. You are right we want our poetry to touch another’s heart. To feel what we are trying to say. It is indeed a blessing when that happens. So glad you are in my poetic life as well. Blessings my sweet and talented Karima. ❤️🤗🦋🙏
