You Don’t Fool Me!
Look at you!!
Wearing sheepskins over your scales!
Our human race is shrinking daily
not much left,
after being force-fed fake news
lies after lies that only nourish our fears,
our xenophobia, our bigotry and intolerance.
You ask us to watch an ongoing genocide, with our eyes wide open and our
mouths gagged and our free speech trampled to the ground!
What part of human can be left
inside those running the show?
The Power in the shadows,
whose attention span,
only focuses on getting rich,
making the poorer sicker,
less educated,
therefore less dangerous….
Who walk around upright,
on two legs,
pretending to be the leaders of
the human race,
but what I see is…
a heartless evil,
masquerading as the world’s heads of state,
with only a coating
of humanity, thinly applied…
How easily it rubs off and is forgotten,
when an ambitious palm, greases another.
Still human you say?
You don’t fool me!

Well and powerfully said… how easily the humanity falls away, given the right grease. Thank you for speaking up!

This poem is a cry of alarm and a scathing indictment against the dehumanization of power, the manipulation of society and the corruption inherent in leadership structures, both visible and hidden.
Warm greetings from afar.

Extremely powerful, Karima. And sadly, so true. But we can’t give up. One poem, one painting, photograph or piece of music, at a time. It all helps spread the word and chip away at the ruling class and the MSM that supports them. It says, we haven’t forgotten, we see you, we see what you are doing and we won’t stand for it.

Thank you David for this comment. I agree with you , one poem, one painting, one piece of music… It seems it geta harder and harder to speak the truth that we see….but we must try. I loved this last line, “It says, we haven’t forgotten, we see you, we see what you are doing and we won’t stand for it.” Yes!!

I always remember Gandhi’s assertion that change begins with us. And Jesus’s words: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” Nobody is blameless.

An interesting reply to my poem Dawn… I was referring to the leaders of the West and Arab countries, making trillion dollar business deals instead of trying to broker a lasting peace, in the Middle East. Thank you for reading it.

I probably misinterpreted what you wrote! I’ve read so many poems like this. I apologize if I offended you. I also have a slightly different point of view. There are many ways to broker “peace.” Economics is a strong incentive for peace. It’s also difficult to broker “peace” between warring factions when at least one side always breaks the terms of the ceasefire. The Middle East has been unstable for a long time, with conflicts that date back hundreds of years. Some parties don’t want peace, and they’ve made that clear. Both sides think they’re right. Both sides feel persecuted and abandoned. The individuals involved have to decide to change, and that begins within their own hearts and minds. And recognizing their own part in the ongoing conflict – their own “sins,” so to speak. Until individuals in the Middle East change and set aside their grievances, there will be no peace. I applaud the economic deals that have been made because it strengthens overall conditions in the region and drags countries out of the Middle Ages. You help the people of Gaza by getting rid of the terrorists and improving the economic infrastructure. We need down-to-earth solutions, not pie in the sky fantasies. Be well, Karima, and take care of yourself. I pledged my Shahada in 2000, attended prayers every Friday, participated in Ramadan, etc., for three years, until the fundamentalist Imam at the mosque publicly declared that people who don’t pray five times a day should be killed. I went back to the Catholic Church after that, and the Imam was sent packing back to Pakistan. I’m glad your experience with Islam has been a joyful one.

Thank you so much for explaining your point of view, Dawn. I’m sorry you had such a bad experince with that Imam (who seems really deranged to have ever told you that) We all have our own destinies and what awaits us…can be very different than what awaits another. I I appreciate you taking the time to explain how you see, especially, the problems now in the Middle East.
Peace unto you Dawn..

This is a powerful statement in the form of your verses against the evil of power, which is the reason behind the increase in disparities. Well penned, Karima 👏👏🌹💐
