When You Lose A Partner in Second Life

Hoyt Listening To My Poetry Reading

Hoyt and I knew each other only in Second Life
As happens many times, when people die in real life
those of us in Second Life are not aware
and so we wait to see them again.
In Hoyt’s case, I knew he was sick.
We talked maybe twice a month,
and I knew he was battling 4th stage lung cancer.
I thought he had more time….

I also thought someone (his brother) would write and let me know..
I was wrong, and I finally figured it out, when I found his obituary listed,
four months later. It was a shock and I wrote this poem.
Hoyt was my best friend for 17 years!!
Please press play to hear it…

Between the real and the virtual there is so much complexity! We can be anyone and anything we want, and not let the real in… But the real is still there, in the background, and sometimes we want to know.

Beautifully put and set to music; thank you for this.

(Now I need to give some RL contacts a few addresses to contact in the event.)

    • Thank you Dale..it’s a subject we don’t talk much about..but it happens and it’s a sad shock when it does. You know what a great guy Hoyt was and he admired you very much. I promised him no matter what I would keep him as my partner….and he still is:) Yes, once again the music just pulled this out of me. Thank you for your beautiful, understanding comment. 🙏
