For something a little different, I will repost “The Swamp House,” an original poem and music written and performed by me (Karima Hoisan.) It is an audio track not an actual video. I decided to make it as a spoken word performance, instead of a machinima.
I urge you to please open the YouTube so you can hear it recited and the Delta Blues music I composed to go with it. Tell me if you think it works together:)
Comments and questions are welcome! Enjoy your walk in the Swamp!😨
Here are the lyrics:,
The Swamp House
Wading to the front door in thigh high boots,
the night falling to the ground before my eyes.
Anything I could imagine, could be imagining me,
I just wipe it from my mind, all that paranoid debris.
Passion is the flame that lights my way.
I let my intuition call me out tonight.
It’s too dark now, to see my hands in front of me;
The mud’s like quick sand, sucking and pulling at my feet.
But…there’s a light on, you left it on the porch so I could see.
I didn’t even have to let you know, because it’s on every night.
Just in case I feel you and your Swamp House calling me…
Just in case I get the urge to live a little dangerously…
Just in case I feel you and your Swamp House calling me…
Just in case I get the urge to live a little dangerously…
Pushing through the thicket, the moldy leaves of fallen trees
that pungent night-time smell of rotting fruit on steamy breeze.
I know this path like I know my winding, twisting destiny;
I know, you’ll be standing in the doorway, expecting me.
You know I’d only do this for you, my secret, my muse,
and you surprise me every time with where you want to meet.
I go all reckless when I think you want me as your guest again,
Just 1/4 mile of swamp is left, until we’ll write the rest and then…
But…there’s a light on, you left it on the porch so I could see.
I didn’t even have to let you know, because it’s on every night.
Just in case I feel you and your Swamp House calling me…
Just in case I get the urge to live a little dangerously…
Just in case I feel you and your Swamp House calling me…
Just in case I get the urge to live a little dangerously…

My God this is so intense!🔥
First of all I love the tempo of the beat and how calmly and passionately the spoken word/music was. One should feel the emotion behind every sentence. I only have one wish… to experience this in real life💚❤

Ohh thank you Joel! I see you did enjoy your walk in the swamp:) I lived on the edge of a Mangrove (Swamp) in Costa Rica in my early 20’s. The sounds at night were incredible, like a reptillian symphony of frogs, plus all the night birds screeching and owls, hunting and calling and it was intense. I tried to capture that in my sound track, using as many sounds that I could find, that reminded me of how I remembered it:) The picture in the beginning is actually of the original sign that hung on my front porch, aptly called, “Swamp House”May you have the possibility to visit a swamp sometime!! It’s another world…

Aww Katy, I am thrilled you clicked on the YouTube and listened. I am a performing poet..so many of my poems I have put to music, to recite publicly and virtually. Many of my poems, should be heard not read to get the fall effect:) Thank you for actually listening to it..I know today, if anything takes over 2 minutes, people lose interest…or they won’t click.:) It’s just the way it is, but I think here on WordPress, where we are all bloggers, it’s a much better average:) and some do take the time. Your comment made me really happy that you felt transported. Thank you again!

Smiling again…why thank you Benjamin and glad you enjoyed my swamp house. As most all of my poetry..it was just born…well on its own..just because it wanted to be:)

Thank you! Thank you! It was a fun one to put together too..The music is my own. I used and edited some Blues loops to make it on GarageBand:) Glad you liked the total effect:)

wow, I did not realize Garage Band is so effective… do you mean you did not need to play anything? I play a few instruments myself, but maybe should look into stuff like that. Pretty low tech and hands on acoustic when it comes to music. Anyway, you are welcome; it sounded great.

In this track, all were loops 4 measures/8 measures you can put them together and mix them as you like..i do play piano…not that well, but I have made a few songs this way..using a real piano and then instruments on Garage Band that can be played ona keyboard..Its lots of fun what’s you get it down:)
