So Simple

So Simple

I still can remember the night I was shown the meaning of Life
(it’s not something to be forgotten)
In awe, my whole conscious mind
now suspended in space,
I looked down upon the spheres
spinning below me and said out loud…
“So that’s what it’s all about…it’s so simple.”
“So simple.”
I understood it all in a raging second of illumination
and then the words to describe what I saw
faded away like a lifting fog and this Truth
I was shown, would be forever out of my reach,
forever beyond my language to explain what I had seen.

The next day, the sun made the trees
bend and wave on my wall.
In a shadow movie of branches and leaves
I knew I was almost grasping that Truth
that I saw the night before.
Still so beyond my reach..
and to this day….
this Truth remains beyond words and syntax.
But today, years and years later,
the dance of Nature, on a wall of my room,
reminds me that I once knew
the why and what of Life..
and that it was perfect
and perfectly simple.

Sorry to hear about your illness but pleased to hear that you are recovering!! Spookily enough, my sister returned from a holiday in Costa Rica last week and returned a positive for Covid.

    • Thank you my dear fellow traveler:) Yes, we have discussed these wordless moments of knowledge that can appear between a clap of the hands…just a quick instant and yet, Time slows and we learn things that we could not learn any other way.. and we remember them forever…and they change us. Big hugs thank you for sharing your thoughts and wisdom..Much love 🤗 ❤️

those holy magical moments keep us afloat when the floods of circumstance sweep us away (as they do from time to time). those holy moments perform the function of a life preserver🌳🌞🌳🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

    • A life-persever to keep us afloat (and hopeful) is a wonderful description of those far and few between sacred moments we are gifted.

Oh my, Karima, I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. Wonderful words you found. Yes, this Truth is so very elusive, but even so makes us feel better, knowing we almost had it, doesn’t it? Such a beautiful little video, too 🙂

    Hugss, and be well!

    • Thank you Kate for your kindness and yes in the end we and everything are all connected (I am picturing the scene from Live Liver Donors in the Meaning of Life, when he opens the refrigerator door and the whole universe is on the other side hehe Great Song!! Love Monty Python!

  9. I am glad to hear you are recovering from Covid. I went through that in June but was fortunate the vaccines did their job and I only had a few days of tiredness and minor symptoms. Visionary moments are, I think, often moments that never really take hold in the mind as we would wish. So often they do seem to fade before we can write down all we want to. I sometimes feel when a poem is flowing from the pen and then the flow seems to dry up that must be a sign there really is nothing more to be written at that moment.

    • Thank you for your kind wishes and am glad you did not get too sick when you had Covid… I think these moments of epiphany, so far and few between are beyond are capacity to put them in words. Yet, the feeling stays with us forever and yesterday came back to me so strongly with the lovely shadow show on my wall. When I was moved to write the poem, I could only just talk about the vague remembrance of that mind shattering moment:) and not what I saw beyond “It was so simple” Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, David,

Sorry to hear about covid infection, but glad that you have recovered. This virus still remains despite all sorts of precautions and vaccinations. All the best, Karima! Take care and rest.
Coming to your poem, it’s awesome as always. Simplicity is the essence of life. It’s very easy to say it’s so simple, but to be simple is very difficult. One of my mentors used to write simple sentences instead of compound or complex ones without losing the flow. I tried to emulate him, but to no avail.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words and yes truly as you say, “simplicity is the essence of life” I saw that very clearly…a poetic example is Rumi…His poems are so simple and his words are words anyone can understand and yet..he speaks of the transcendent and the truths “beyond words” so easily. Thank you Kaushal for your lovely feedback.

    • Hi Cindy. thank you so much for your beautiful comment, I am almost totally recovered thank you…just a lingering cough, but a bit weak and trying to get up to speed a bit. Thank you so much for loving those lines.. It’s so hard to explain sometimes for me, but every time I see that shadow show on my wall, I am reminded that is how we see reality…just a 1/10 of what it really is… but we think we see it all:) Big hugs and thank you for your comment and good wishes..🤗🙏❤️

Dearest Karima first I hope you are truly feeling like you are getting back to normal, like many things that have caused pain people don’t want to talk about them We will be living with this Covid thing just like we live with the flu and many other diseases or viruses. I am so grateful to see all the well wishes. It has different side effects and symptoms that some of the brightest people at John Hopkins are continuing to study to find a way to end this horrible disease. Praise God you are better. Your piece is so lovely and the video is so perfect, the wind slightly blowing and the rushing of leaves. I love the way you showed the leaves on the walls and the branches of the trees, just like your moment of awareness.

“The next day, the sun made the trees

In a shadow movie of branches and leaves

Beautiful writing my friend, sending you love, hugs and continued prayers for coming back strong. Joni 🥰

    • Oh Joni, I feel I will never catch up with replying to your beautiful comments. I am still on short screen time, and still having eye problems but I want you to know..I loved every word of every beautiful comment you left me. Covid, as you know, hit me hard, but I am mostly over it (still get tired out in my laps which I didn’t happen before) but this eye thing, because of my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome..has set me back on the computer. You are by far the most generous and loving commentator..You really dive in and swim deeply in my poetry (as I also do in yours) ,If you want to come visit a virtual world of mine on Kitely Opensim (not Second Life) I will be happy to exchange Skypes or WhatsApp and help to walk you though it.. It is a bit of a learning curve, but I would be happy to teach you the essentials to enjoy my worlds to the fullest.. Big hugs and Bless you dear Joni…you are just amazing and such a generous, beautiful soul Much love to you always, Karima ❤️🤗❤️

Sweetie I had no idea you had this disorder I am so very sorry. You will be in my prayers more often. Here is a link that you probably already know about, but just in case you don’t it is: https://ehlers-danlos.com/Covid-19-update/ – first please don’t ever worry about reading me or contacting me back or making any comments. I want you to get your health back, having that extra pressure of liking and following every thing that your friends write is an impossible task in the best conditions. We are all human and we have physical issues and for some reason it seems to be something people don’t talk about much online. I’m glad when people tell me if they are feeling bad so that I can pray for them and I do. When you are feeling better I would love to be able to send you a WhatsApp text so that we can talk off-line. You are also certainly welcome to contact me on my email. I have been feeling overwhelmed myself lately, there are so many people I truly want to read and just don’t have time. When things slow down I would love to talk to you about visiting an virtual world. I am sending you prayers, my love, and wishing you a quick return to your health. Thank you so much for this very thoughtful message. I too love your work, your poetry is amazing as are the virtual worlds you create. Love you, Joni 🦋🤗❤️🌹
