The Colored Dreams Series – The Red Room, A Collaboration by Karima Hoisan & Dale Innis

Blog.12 AM

The Colored Dreams Series is a narrated storybook format of an illustrated story I wrote back in 2011 and published on my blog. The inspiration for this story came from my impressions and fascination with DB Bailey’s (now gone) sim Locus in SL, an amazing surreal entire world of color, surprises and beauty. This breathtaking sim is now lost to us forever, but a few images you will see in this story were taken there, by me and by DB himself.

I am eternally grateful to him for the encouragement and influence to write this story. The Colored Dreams Series will be 6 separate YouTubes. The Red Room, is the first.

I am also very grateful to Dale Innis, for making it possible to re -write this story in a different way. His AI Art images, so beautiful and intriguing, go so well with the originals. Thank you Dale for your eye for beauty and symmetry and your gift of collaboration.

Special thank yous, to Menubar Memorial, for his fine finishing of some selected slides.

The music is by Clint Mansell, who, although copywritten, allows it to be used here on YouTube. “The Last Man” is from his score of the movie, The Fountain. You will hear a lot of his music, in the coming chapters:) Big thanks to Clint Mansell for his generosity for small content creators, even though in Latin America, Latin Author-UMPG has blocked it on WordPress>

Please watch on YouTube in 4K in fullscreen with good sound. This isn’t exactly Holiday Faire, but we hope you will be intrigued and continue on with us for the next 5 chapters.

Happy Holidays to All!! Much love and appreciation for your support over all these years:)

Hurrah! I think this came out really well; although it’s a very different presentation from the original story, the combination of images and your voice (over the perfect music) capture it very well. Thanks for the opportunity to contribute here, and I look forward to the challenge of working on the next parts!

    • Oh I am very happy too, how this has worked out..Dusting off an old but very intriguing story that would not be possible to resurrect, if not for your invaluable help Dale!! Thank you so much for these wonderful AI images that blend so well my original ones:) This will be a fun and challenging project in the next 5 chapters… I can’t wait to begin…..:) Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family!! 🎄

Oh, I love this new take on your Colored Dreams! I read them some years back, but how you recite the story makes it that much more evocative. Well done, Karima and Dale!

    • Aww thank you so much Joey and yes you read the original story way back then. You’re right, the first Colored Dreams were not narrated, although Part Two was but only in audio form. I have been wanting to do something “else” for this story for years, as you know, Nat and I attempted to film it as a Machinima Series, but by then, Locus was gone so all the sets were gone too. We gave up…the only project Nat and I started, and never finished:) Dale’s images on Midjourney and his slide work, made this new attempt possible… Stay Tuned and enjoy your Christmas and New Year.s!! Big Hugss!

I love the intrigue in which you start this piece. The red room is inviting and you putting the bottle in the middle of the bed to see what will happen next – it makes us hold our breath. Then this undercurrent brings such sadness when you are trying to be a good girl (what kind of a good girl – I am thinking) I can tell you are fearful, taken from the one place where you feel safe. When the glass breaks I love the things rotating around you like a globe and other things mixed in with the glass and you look like such a precious and beautiful soul – as you move through the glass. Panic and fear of not getting the red room back – the red room holds safety and magic for you – you are lost without it. The massaging fingers that are like angels moving you back as they feel the uncomfortable feeling that surrounds you outside your redroom. They are the angels that bring you back. I love the way you look in the doorway – this idea of motion that is like a pen-mill spinning back and forth is such a creative and interesting force of nature. The music is so beautiful too. The trouser legs pushing through your safe world – I hear fear in your voice – it reminds me of being abused this sense of terror that I pick up in your voice. Like a child who wants to be left alone in her safe chair, she is comfortable in her own skin. Such a beautiful Part I my dearest Karima. You are such a talented being and so is Dale and again the music too is just perfect for this movie. I am moving on to Part II. I can’t wait till tomorrow. This is so beautifully written and the visuals are just stunning, such vividness with the color.

    • Oh Joni, I just finished reading and assimilating your gorgeous impressions of Chapter Two, The Ship of White Dreams..now I am enjoying reading your thoughts on the Red Room.. You are the most amazing observer!! I am thrilled you too love the music! I think probably this whole series will use only two composers, Mansell and Abadalmenti…both who I love and create the perfect moods for this story. Thank you for your accolades about our work and I really do love how you see this central character, not yet named, but she will become more real and apparent as each chapter progresses. Dearest Joni, I always get excited waiting to read your comments.. You have such depth and skill for putting into words what you see and feel of my work, be it video or poetry, I love how you enjoy and how well you get me:):) Thanks again for this wonderful commentart on Chapter One:)
