Bigger Than Life

MOMNDADl_001

Photo of my mother and father in my virtual “Kari’s Bar & Dance” 1940’s

Bigger than life
I propped them up at their favorite table
In their favorite little bar
where they met five years before.
I built a monument to their chemistry
that allowed one child to be born.
and that was me….
no others came before or after
and if it’s true I longed for an older brother
I shone in the spotlight of
the only child  who came after
5 years of trying
and  finally made their house a home.

I framed and propped them
at their table near the dance floor
because each dance,  each joke
my father made, made my mother
giggle and love him more.
And that’s why after they wined and dined
danced and laughed all night,
I was conceived because the time was right
and today this small scene, preserved virtually
is my way of thanking them eternally
for giving me life. ..for my life…
the night they gave me life.

  3. Thank you Dale, today going to the club, checking everything was working (the music was playing) I looked over at their table and realized once again but with a certain sense of continuity, how important they were to me…not only as parents…but as creators:)

    • Hahaha Buddeh!!! I’m going to tell everyone that story now here:):)
My mom told me she was set up by mutual friends with my father. They had a wild night, lots of drinking and good times and then he took her back to his apartmement and they wound up laughing and laughing throwing oranges at a wall..She said she knew right away he was the one..that her marriage would always be a fun and unpredictible; they were married 3 months later:)

  7. How nice to remember parents in this way. Happy New Year.

I think it is important to try and remember family and record our thoughts and feelings. Most of us are so fortunate to have positive thoughts.

    • Yes, I was blessed to have very wonderful parents…but sadly my father passed away when I was 11. I had always just thought of them as my parents, but yesterday I saw how their love created me:) Thank you so much David for commenting!

What a sweet way to say thanks to parents! A beautiful and heartfelt tribute, Karima! I love the phrase, “monument to their chemistry.” Only you can express your views in such a unique way. Stay blessed, Karima! Your parents must be showering their blessings upon you from wherever they might be.

Dearest Karima, First, what a handsome mom and dad you had. I know why you are such a beautiful woman who still looks so very young. This poem is very touching and is filled with love and emotion. This is one of the sweetest tributes to one’s parents I have ever seen. This is filled with tenderness and admiration for your family Karima. This has deeply touched my heart. Love and hugs my sweet and most gracious friend. Love you!
