Poett & the “Eureka Odyssey”

A dear, fabulous, Austin artist & friend, Scott Rolfe  (Assemblage/found objects) website  or Instagram posted this photo on his fb page awhile back. He called her Eureka! because, of course,  a  water creature like a frog with fork feet would inspire that phrase…first used by the way by Archimedes …

“Eureka! Eureka! I have found it!” is famously attributed to the ancient Greek scholar Archimedes. According to legend, he uttered these words upon discovering the principle of buoyancy while in his bath. The word “Eureka” is Greek for “I have found it” and has since become synonymous with sudden discoveries or realizations.

So..I fall in love with Eureka.. I mean, who wouldn’t?:) hehe  and I comment about it to another dear and very generous friend, who, spur of the moment style, offers to gift it
to me for my 80th birthday (Next March)… Exciting!! but… how to get it here, through the notoriously difficult and very expensive customs we have in our country (Costa Rica)
Ta da! This is where my daughter Poett comes in …in a big way!
She is the Commercial Director of one of our most remotely beautiful, high-end  hotels
“Corcovado Wilderness Lodge”

Part of her job, is to travel the world (Sardinia, Marrakesh, Berlin, London, Rio de Janeiro, Argentina…etc  and talk about the hotel in what are called travel road shows.
I find it amazing that these commercial directors from all over the world, make instant friendships as if they all knew each other in high-school.
Let me try to put this Instagram video that one of the members made of the Texas Tour
Poett introduces herself with them all  What Fun!! Sorry this is only for Instagram users  but I promise, if you are, it’s worth signing in for:)
Texas Road Show

Anyway she landed in Austin (home of Eureka and her artist) just in time for cocktails, dinner sleep and take off for Dallas next morning..  so, there was no time to meet up (aww) so Scott (sort of like a special agent, left the package at the  front desk and slinked away avoiding the peacocks who were watching, listening, reporting(?)

So…the hotel came through and Poett now had possession of Eureka but this was no direct flight back to Costa Rica,… No no, Eureka wrapped for the trip continued on to Dallas, to Huston, Frisco and finally took off from Ft.Worth to San Jose Costa Rica, where you can bring things in your luggage (up to a point) with no taxes.. Who knows what the agent thought it was in the X-ray  (smiles thinking about it) but Poett said just one word “Art and Eureka was allowed in:) Poett who normally travels super light had to use a
bullet-proof” hard shell check in (ugh) to keep her safe. I told my daughter I owed her “Big Time”
Then we had to come to San Jose (no buses for Eureka) and bring her back in our car.
It’s a 4 hour drive over Death’s Peak” 11,300 feet (honestly that’s what it called but we got her back (and ourselves) safely
Then the hanging:) Quality control was provided by Bubbles:)
and my dear Karla..a good hanger, and Voilá she made it in time to be tickled by prisms

the next morning:)

and here she is.. in a place of honor on the door of my room:) Isn’t she fabulous?!!!  Many thanks to ALL.. especially Scott, Popi” and the nameless gift-giver:)
I Hope you enjoyed this real life tale of Eureka and her Odyssey!!

So thrilled that my Eureka is now watching over your abode! And was fun to be part of, as well as to witness, her journey all the way to her new home! But let’s face it: I’m the world’s worst secret agent, as I let those peacocks know my whereabouts all too easily!

    • Haha Scott, don’t sell yourself short..I’d definitely use you again, under the same circumstances :):) I heard you bribed the peacocks by offering them a full page article in your FB “Feather Report” I think they’ll keep quiet.
I so love her and everyone who has seen her, loves her too… I adore your creativity as you know..and a perfect storm. my 80th birthday (later) and Poett’s roadshow made it possible for me to finally have one of your pieces in my home!! I’m ecstatic !! Oh little Eureka says “Hi Dad!:)
