Hi everyone,
this is something a bit different… my spoken word to my soundtrack but not really music..more
“part of the experience..” I hope you enjoy this little experiment of mine…just press Play:)
As I lashed myself to the centre thwart I heard the moans rise up from the sea
It was almost like music, those painful sounds, at times in long sad harmonies.
The wind above, treble clef played carelessly riding the bucking waves of sound
the rhyme was in my mind, repeating in a loop, “Tie tight the knots! For you must stay bound.”
It was a midnight sea, the rain pelted ,the lightning flashed and thunder was my only company
Have you been in such a rolling sea? where the howling winds cry out like screaming banshees?
It will make the strongest disbeliever, pray to any god he can to save him from the dark deep grave
If he can last the night, when the storm has tired of tossing him to & fro, like a floating bottle on the waves.
High voltage snake -shapes catapulted from the sky, pierce and part the white caps foaming swells
I don’t expect to see the dawn, but then again I might, because in storms at sea, well, one can never tell.
In between the thunder’s roaring path, the oarsmen from the sunken shipwrecks, croon the days of old,
When they lost the battle with the storm, were humbled by the truth: Men are weak; only Nature’s bold.

Thank you so much for listening Mich and I am glad that last part stuck in your head too:) I had no idea this is what would come out, when I started writing “the music” which turned into “the soundtrack” I really appreciate your taking the time to give it a listen.🙏

Wow, where does your muse get these? Clearly she’s been having adventures! The soundtrack, the verse, your voicing, all perfect. And I can only add to the accolades for the last line… amazing.

Thank you Dale and also for the perfect image!! This muse of mine is unpredictible…I thought we were writing a piece of music, a slow dreamy one, and she found this roaring storm at sea and grabbed me by the hand, and I had to change it All…I never say no, of course, to her…she runs the show and I just obediently write it down:) Yes if she finds an adventure, well….it seems I am locked into it too. The ways of my muse…..:)

Thank you Manuel..deep like the watery graves of those who lost the battle to the storm:) I hope you had a chance to listen to the ambience our poor sailor heard while trying to keep afloat. I am so glad you enjoyed this poem. It was sort of an experiment for me…took me out of my comfort zone:) Muchas gracias, de parte de tu amiga, Karima:)

Sailors have their own suffering because the sea is their grave. Yes, I could visualize the storm in your narration. When verses are said with feelings they break the fibers of the skin. A hug.

Scott and I watched the frightening portrayal of a frightening sea against a small vessel with the lonely one passenger. I love the work that Dale did on this too. The music and perfectly placed sounds of lightning is truly amazing Karima. The poetry is haunting and frightening and yet gives one the feeling of the experience and what it might feel like. I can’t even imagine as I have a fear of swimming even in the sea and yet I love the sea. I love the way you build your thoughts and fear about what being in this situation could do to anyone. The way that you summed it up at the end was perfect for this piece. I just love this new music that you are doing and the special effects are amazing too. So enjoyed this one, both of us. Love you sweetie and thanks for everything, Joni

Oh Joni, you and Scott are my best audience!! I can imagine you both taking in the poem, like a radio show from the late 1940’s. I was quite surprised how this all came together and am so glad you enjoyed both the soundtrack as well as the poetry.
Your comments just inspire me to try even more new things…It’s wonderful to know I have a few who really get and feel entertained by what I try to do, with my spoken word pieces.
Much love to you Joni and Scott is a keeper:):) Thank you for taking out the time to listen and let me know. Love and all the best and blessings for you both…inshAllah, Kari:)

Cindy, so glad you immersed yourself(in the roiling sea) in my tale and stormy sea soundtrack. Just imagine you are sitting around your family living-room in 1949 listening to the latest terrifying adventure on the radio. I hope it felt a bit like that for you and happy you enjoyed the total package too. Thank you for this upbeat comment:) 🙏🌹

Thank you so much Kaushal and I have always had a fascination with the sea..a sort of “Love/Fear” or maybe a deep respect for its immense beauty & power. I am thrilled you felt the emotion of the scene through my voice and music..hehe maybe I should forget YouTube and go back to doing retro radio shows:) I really enjoyed your comment.

My pleasure, Karima! I remember once I had asked you whether you have ever worked as announcer or presenter.

Well not exactly in that capacity but my work with Natascha and some commercial work we did, utilized my voice. I was giving readings in Second Life from 2008 until I “retired” about 6 months ago.. Outside of this..no presenter or announcer experience:) Smiles big..That’s a compliment, actually:) Thanks for asking:)
