No Regrets

Was our ember only able to burn bright enough for one duet?
Reality paints in realism, with no excuses, and no regrets.
For me I felt it blaze up in my face, smoke and dreams, a creative space
But a rainstorm came from nowhere and washed it away without a trace.
Still something was salvaged like a lifeboat when the ship went down.
Something good and real floated back to shore, not meant to drown.
What we made, in that crazy lyrical union, would be our only love-child’s song.
No one can say, it was not born, for we can always hear it in our heads and sing along.
Was our ember only able to burn bright enough for one duet?
Reality paints in realism, with no excuses, and no regrets.

How profoundly sad this is. Many of us have experienced this scenario with relationship, project, a friendship, or other meaningful circumstance. Your words are knowing but wistful. Wise, sobering, yet angst-filled truths. Love relationships can leave a bitter-tasting regret. The death of what might have been. Or maybe never could be. These are the painful turning points in life. Letting go or leaving someone behind. You quietly describe perfectly the agony. Thank you for your fine work, Karima! It is clear what it costs you.

What it all comes back to eventually- reality. Karima, you paint such vivid pictures exceptionally well.

Thank you Lance..Actually I am a frustrated visual artist..which probably explains why I started painting with words at about 9 years old to compensate:) I always enjoy your comments.

Painful, and so very relatable. Something good is always left in the aftermath!

I am convinced it takes a certain degree of leaving, learning, and maturity to really see that. I’m just starting to actually:) Thank you Dale…

No excuses, no regrets….Would that we could all live by these words Ruca. Even when our momentary duets slip away before our very eyes. Beautiful words!

Thumbs up for this: “Was our ember only able to burn bright enough for one duet?” Liking the repeat of it, also.

Thank you Benjamin for commenting! Yes, this poem actually helped me see a bad situation in a slightly better light..as our poems can do for us sometimes:)

You’re welcome. I think you’re right about that. There is something about poetry that no other art from can truly capture.
