Dealing With Demons
To hear the poem recited by me to the music that inspired it click here: Recorded Poem Dealing With Demons
If only love can kill a demon;
only love can cure a demon,
all those lashing tails and tongues
snapping at your heels.
If you run, they’ll chase you…..
If you stand your ground, they’ll eat you,
but if you love them, you can stop them in their tracks.
Extract their fangs!
Clip their claws!
Close their eyes!
Pin their jaws!
And hug them tight,
without hurting them at all!
They’re wounded….
Hug them like a tango
Hug them with a whisper in their ear!
Hug them like you’ve loved them all your life!
Hug them with commitment and No Fear!
They’ll be…
Falling at your feet,
Bowing down upon the ground
Humbled, tamed and changed.
Hear their voices, they’ll tell you,
“I need help,”
such a plaintive evil voice,
“I need your help”
“I can’t do it alone.”
If you are who you say you are,
it should be easy….
Easy to forgive their scales and barbed tails
Easy to forget; they almost killed you, betrayed you, maligned your name.
But, when you loved them anyway,
They could no longer slay you..eat you alive, steam roll over you
They could not scare the pale halo off of you,
that’s floating round your head.
Only love can cure a demon
Only the touch of an innocent can change dark alchemy into spun gold manes.
Can you imagine being like them?
Trapped in their malignancy depraved?
Stroke them, give them hope,
Whisper, “It will be all right..the sun will rise on the other side for you”
Then….make them spin…spin in all benevolence!
Spin them until they’re dizzy with being cherished and held dear!
How they start to smooth..and soften those hard edges
horns falling off as you spin them faster ‘n faster.
Turn them into puffs and cream, turn them into rainbow dreams.
Make them your puppy dog that follows you day and night.
Make them mirror all the goodness they received.
Make them believe..if only they believe
that love is stronger than anything they can achieve!
Only love can cure a demon.
It’s the only way.
Only love from an innocent heart
can disarm the beast..and make him meek
so they too can inherit the earth
the afterlife
all the worlds to come.
Only love can kill a demon… true
Only love can cure a demon… too!
Don’t kill the demon; give it a second chance!
Only love can cure a demon!
Only love can cure a demon!

This is a performance piece, that I recite to the music that inspired it: an excerpt off the album Suduaya Venus, Full Album. I invite you to click the link to hear it, not only read it. The image is by a very gifted artist, Omar Rayyan; you can find his website here: http://studiorayyan.com/contact-omar-rayyan.php
Take your time exploring all that he offers.
The expression:”Only Love can Kill a Demon” I first heard in Oliver Stones, “Natural Born Killers” I think it was Quentin Tarantino who wrote the line.

Amazing. 🙂 So wise and so hotly sung! Like a hypnotic chant in places. That picture and that music definitely came to you for a reason!
I’d urge anyone else to click the link and listen, not only read.

That’s a big WOW! Especially when I read it first and listen after.
When reading I see very different pictures than i see when listening. Has a great pace!
Sometimes, while listening I am thinking of a cartoonish little devil, that sits on the shoulder with his trident, running away and saying no, no, no … while someone is chasing that little demon:)

Hehe Cool image Nat…I could see that too:) Well the music that came from one random moment and that image conspired to keep me up late at night…You know how it works..the muse, keeps her own hours:) I was obsessed, as I get, because all of a sudden..hehe I had something I wanted to say:):) That first part of the music, reminds me of maybe demons talking their gibberish, maybe in a menacing way..and then..Love rides in…and now we know what happens next:):) Thanks for this great comment Nat!

Wonderful performance for this thought-provoking piece, Kari! Love how you sort of rap/sung; and, yes, as Dale said, like a “hypnotic chant”! Music is great! xo

Thank you Luna!…was pretty strange how this whole thing was born..it just seemed to all fall into place and then boom..I recorded it. So glad you enjoyed listening to it too. Will be fun later on performing it live I think:) Big hugs and thank you again for your support!

Rucita…. I truly don’t know how you do this! This piece is like a Buddhist or Taoist teaching. A Koen if you will. And so true and profound!
Signed,
Always Amazed
