The Cold Road-A Song with Images

O.K.
I am really putting myself out here:)  as this is my singing debut on my blog, YouTube, The Universe. Be kind:)
From the moment I wrote this as lyrics on March 15th, I knew I had to sing it…but  well, I am not a singer, still I had to do it, in my own Garage Band style. I recorded my Yamaha piano on my iphone (smiles) so that set the feeling of an old timey, Bluegrass or Folksy Country Song. I recorded 3 voice parts and spent DAYS trying to balance and sync it. I added a string part I played in Garage Band and the sound of my mournful Toucans in the backyard. Images were from Google.
This, is as close as I can get I think..so I published it on YouTube for your listening(hopefully) pleasure. Crosses her fingers:)

Wow, not just a whole new aspect of this poem, but a whole new aspect of you and your talents! 🙂 You continue to surprise and delight.

When I read the poem, I didn’t think of it as a country-folk song sung late at night by a group gathered around a Bluegrass piano. But it works perfectly.

Thanks for the words, the music, and your voices! I don’t know how you do it. 🙂

  4. This is a comment from Jan Betts artist and friend, who has problems signing into WordPress:
“Well… the creative genius of Karima moves into a new realm of expression! I too did not expect this poem to turn into a sad country song. You never cease to amaze me… every act of creative expression is always so different from any other! And you did it all… music, actually playing your own piano…lyrics, and you sang it… in harmony! I loved this… thank you… again.”

    • What a wonderful comment Jan..I feel bubbling over with happiness..that you enjoyed this so much.. Yes I argued with my muse for days..did not want to move out of my comfort zone….but that muse!! as you know..in the end always does what she wants and is truly unpredictable. I was caught between horrified that I posted it and glad I did.. Comments like this one, make me feel I was right to trust that muse one more time:):) Big Hugs and thank you again dear friend, for all your unconditional support..Love you!!❤️

    Rucita mia…
This is soooo sad, but yet beautiful! As always, your lyrics are compelling. And although I’ve heard you sing bits and pieces before….This is the first time we’ve been gifted with the whole package. Your lyrics, your voice, the harmony, and finally after all these years, I get to hear you play piano! I love, love, love this! More more more!

    • Ruco, you made my heart soar like an eagle (in harmony:) I was hoping you would discover this…you out of all, who sing and play country/folk music.. I always had it, in the back of my mind, what is Hoyt going to think? And I got my piano fixed just in time, too:) even if I did not do it justice, and recorded it on my iphone:) it made it all possible. Thank you thank you thank you…you have inspired me even more. Big hugs Ruco 🤗

    • Ahhh yes my bird-life…and just like on cue one day, the toucans started their mournful calling out in my backyard trees, and the most amazing thing…in tune with my key of D haha..I said, “OK birds..you got the part” So glad you liked the pictures too…trying to capture that Cold Road feeling:)

You crossed the road with Courage yet again! I’d never be brave enough (nor talented enough) to actually put my own words with my very own music, lol. You weave authentic passion into every evocative piece you share with us. Congrats sissy on another emotional milestone ((hugs))

  11. Being honest, the first few times I listened to the Cold Road song, I had my problems with it. But then something made click click in my mind and I realized that I considered it from the wrong side.
When I am listening to it now, I think its very well done and performed and I like it.
