Not Quite Ready

“Bing Bang!
I am going to a new society.”
Gino said, as he uttered his last breath.
“Will I be going too?”I said
“Of course you will,
not quite yet..but soon.”

That night, the night he died,
I had a dream.
I saw a river
and a mountain scene,
I felt like I was on
a speeding train
riding high on a jet stream.

Everything was beautiful
and yet
everything was not quite right,
not like I remember
in my daily life
It nagged my fear;
it tricked my sight.

If this is his new society,
I am not quite ready.
My reality feels a bit bendy
and unsteady.
Like an hallucination,
the scenery keeps changing
Maybe its nice,
but I have
no idea what it is
I’m seeing.

I want to go back
to my stable room
where 4 walls can hold
and comfort me.
This place plays tricks
as vertigo takes hold
I just need to return to planet earth,
my first life reality.

I’m sorry Gino,
I couldn’t come right behind.
You flew out as a butterfly
and probably thrived
But I see this new place
as something not quite right.

I will press my eyelids
and stand on my head
and prepare myself
to finally join you

when it’s my time,
to be whisked off
and fly along side.
My dear departed friend ,
I will see you once again,
when I’m ready to enter,
your new society.

Very honored to have my (hah, “my”) images associated with this poem! So evocative; maybe it’s nice, but we have no idea just what we’re seeing…

    • Yes, AI Art in general..is so unsettling to me. That was really Gino’s death bed statement as you know.. I felt and feel about most of AI Generated Art. It’s beautiful but creepy:):) You did good Dale in bringing these two into reality, Thank you for letting me use them.

Ahh, this one reminds me of the many ways that reality is seen, internalized, and understood. As I continue to iterate as a human being, reality shifts, and changes, uncovering new aspects of my own human beingness, which then opens up new aspects of seeing and knowing the world. It’s an awesome scene, and the write is beautiful, as always. Thank you, Karima, for providing the space for this reflection. ❤️🌹🌸🙏🤗

    • Thank you Jeff, I love your perceptions on this one.. My dear friend, Gino who passed away in 2020 said right before he passed away..those exact lines…I always wondered what the new society might look like…smiles I sort of hope it won’t look like AI Art, which is very disorienting for me.. and yes when reality shifts,,sometimes it;s hard for us to adjust..we want to go back to the old and the familiar:)

You’re most welcome, Karima. Always. Oh, I’m so sorry to learn of your dear friends passing. My condolences. It interesting to contemplate this concept of a new society, and I totally get that about AI Art. Indeed we do at times want to go back. This is true. It is so much more fun, and yet is is also terribly difficult at times, to continue to move into unknown realms. Wishing you a blessed rest of your week, my dear friend. 🙏❤️🤗🌸💫

  5. Sometimes the paths we take in moving on are determined by being ready in terms of comfort levels and sometimes I think they can be partly out of control. I just enjoy the journey but admit some of the better changes have been meeting that challenge of going outside the comfort zone. Thought-provoking indeed.

    • Oh yes you’re right that going out of our comfort zone can be edifying…I just am finding AI Art very unsettling, bordering on the creepy when figures are involved… The first part is true…a dear friend who took his last breath in my house,,kept telling me, he was about to go live in a new society….but that I would have to wait a bit…I combined these two thoughts:) Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment…
