Strong Female Pirate by Dale Innis on Midjourney

If I would have met you…just anywhere in my life,
a bar, at the produce market or merely walking down the street,
I would have thrown myself at your feet
“ Hello! Yes please!”
Make me a pirate just like you.

Just looking into your eyes, I can sail the oceans
you have seen,
the last light of the day
when the sun steams on the horizon
where it’s put down, under, until the next day.
I hang off your arm, like an extension of your blouse
Gorgeous pirate that makes me dream
of the rolling sunrise, rolling over by your side,

There is no doubt in my mind we were meant
to watch shows together, we can’t get on Netflix;
to cruise those forbidden seas , dodging the authorities.
My country is labeled a pirate sanctuary..and I have no doubt
yours is at the top of the list.
“You’re not allowed to see this in your country”
is our new National Anthem.

Forgive me,
for my boldness, but I have no doubt,
between the two of us,,.
we can figure out a way
to not miss one single episode,
just because, Prime, Hulu, FX and HBO
have labeled us renegades.
I’d gladly go to the gallows in your arms,
You drop-dead gorgeous. rebellious, charismatic pirate…. you.

Woo! Pirates and pirates, on the open seas of digital content! 🙂 Love this, and love that one of my humble (well, this one is anything but humble) images inspired you.

What a gorgeous pirate! From Somalia? Well, Karima, I love your imagery like …extension of your blouse, apart from drops of emotion sprinkled here and there. That’s what I like in your poems, always a pleasure to read 👍💐💖🙏

    • Oh Wow Kaushal I had written you an answer and I don’t see it here..So sorry..I was saying, I am not sure where she is from, but I suspect Iran or Iraq.

I love the pirate metaphor, and the sea, both resonate with me. I loved pirates as a child, there is a rebelliousness and resistance that is enticing, as you write. Oh, and the pirate, of course, is stunning. 🙂

    • Thanks Jeff, so glad you saw all the layers in this one..Yes she is a gorgeous pirate indeed..I too loved the pirate stories as a child, and the never told to me story of women pirates would have really inspired me, instead of reading that women were nothing more than bad luck to have on a ship….Well time’s are changing hehe:) I might have to tell her story:):)

You’re welcome, Karima. Always. Ah, yes, I agree with you about the lack of women pirates, and times are changing, though it seems not fast enough at times. Ah, I would love if you told her story. :))

Truly “drop-dead gorgeous. rebellious, charismatic”…”pirate”…this poem is well articulated & layered…you’re an amazing storyteller…would love to read “the next one” if you ever write a series…Dale’s art is mesmerizing…it’s difficult to stop looking at the picture…the beauty, the expression, the colours, the clothes, the eyes…a multidimensional art for me 💫
