“At The Source” by Dale Innis on Midjourney AI Art
I, Poet
I can not think of anything new to say
so I sit down to read, over the years what I used to say
Sometimes I surprise myself with my perceptions…
Many times I laugh at myself for my delusions…
Most times I cradle myself for my innocence.
Poets can be so wise, so wrong and so naive.
If I had the chance to write it over again, would I?
Or would I leave what is written, as written remains?
Would I tweak, or alter or cosmetically color it prettier?
Or blow it to dust, erase it existed, so as not to feel ashamed?
The poet does have a responsibility for what is signed with their name.
Sometimes I feel I have said everything I wanted to say.
Many times I feel I withhold things I really would like to say.
Most times I feel only a few really understand what I try to say.
There’re times I choose the coward’s trick of parable and metaphor,
and hope those who read me, hold the key to open innuendo’s door.
Today, I bathe in the river source, and try to catch the flow once more.

Thank you for again sharing your creative process, your thoughts as a poet! Parable and metaphor are often entirely appropriate. 🙂 And you wield them so well.

My pleasure Dale and thank you for making me the perfect image too. I use metaphor a lot, as you know, but sometimes I would like to be more hmm more poetically clear…I think it can still be considered poetry, and I rarely do it:) but never too late to learn how:) I’m so glad you enjoyed my poetic musings today:)

there are seasons for all things. rest is as important as activity. then again, soul searching is essential too, so whatever pulls you in to question & look more deeply is worth the dance.❤️🌹

lOVE this poem so relatable Karima. Our poetry is so personal and takes us to the same places often and opens inroads. LOVE the question in your poem and these lines:
“Most times I feel only a few really understand what I try to say.
There’re times I choose the coward’s trick of parable and metaphor,
and hope those who read me, hold the key to open innuendo’s door.’
AND THEN the best last line of all”
“Today, I bathe in the river source, and try to catch the flow once more.”

You’re so very welcome, Karima. The good news is you can always go back and edit unlike a book.. you’re always welcome my dear friend.❣️

Yes a book will lock you in forever to “what’s written, written stays” maybe that is why I enjoy blogging😀

What a lovely thought, Karima, so relatable! I think all posts think in the same way, but can’t express so eloquently as you have done. Well done, as always:)

I’m so glad you could relate to this one Kaushal..Thank you for saying what you did.. Many of us just say the same things in different ways..each of us has his or her own way…that is what makes is so interesting…No two poets are exactly alike.

You’re a gem…an amazing poet n I love this poem of yours…a poem is a thought, a dream, how we see, what we sense, how we live, what we feel, what we experience, soul searching n much more…the creativity at so many levels…a pure treasure in every manner…all seasons could be in a single poem…a beautiful poem by you, Karima ✨❤️💫

Thank you so much Naveen…love what you say about this one, “…a poem is a thought, a dream, how we see, what we sense, how we live, what we feel, what we experience,” Yes, it is and as you say, much more. Not everyone writes poetry regularly, and you and I and so many others here are blessed, that ideas, thoughts, dreams, life itself, reveal themselves poetically. I love to think about that and give thanks daily for being a poet..for seeing with this dynamic…just like you my dear Navin…I owe you a recording 🙂 soon I promise 🙏🌹

Our poems reflect different ages and experiences. As we grow, so do our poems.
