Grieving Mother by nunmeister
On and On…
The War. The Greed. The Destruction. The Injustice, now our daily bread.
If we’re not living these horrors ourselves every day in the flesh,
We are watching the scenes on TV.
Yet our world has turned its head and no longer sees.We can protest the rising prices, the governmental over reach,
but please do not forget a gentle people, far away
being extinguished before our eyes.
Raze the ground, uproot every olive tree
profits are the endgame; life is so cheap.
Human beings like you and me, being cleansed
to make room for a real estate boom.
Profits before families…
ambitious cruelty sits on the Throne,
Careful now, you too could be on a list
to be classified as not worthy to live.
Hope is buried somewhere out of sight
and complicity to plans of insanity
are our new reality.

*Footnote: Please press Play to hear my spoken word version. The music is “Fragile” by Sting sung by a children’s choir for the limited series, “Adolescence” When I heard this music, I knew soon I would write this poem.
Thank you for this, Karima. The levels of greed and cruelty on display are astounding.

You’re welcome Tracy and a new wave of world apathy too is spreading, I’m afraid:( I had to say something…now.

Powerful and important words! It seems like we didn’t fix any crises lately, just pour in more and let the old ones slip out of site, unsolved. We must remember the people suffering! ❤️

Yes, now it’s all about tarrifs and”HandsOff” which is good because people are waking up from their apathy, but please not at the price of real human suffereing on a daily basis.

Sad and truthful words. Those with an insatiable desire for control and power will raze anyone or anything in their path. Like the First They Came For poem from almost 100 years ago, many won’t take action until it effects them personally, which is usually too late.

So true Scottius, in Arabic we have a varation of that story where a sheppard makes a deal with a wolf to not eat his whole herd and he will sacrifice one to give to the wolf, but the wolf comes back every week until the shepard realizes, he was eaten when he gave the wolf the first lamb. His future was written, by thinking it could never happen to him. I see many comparrisons to Germany in the 30’s unfolding in the US today. Its frightning. Thank you for your perceptive comment…we all must start being a bit braver and defend our beliefs..

so far it seems to me that humanity is a failed species, with the occasional exception. i’ve never been a fan, & am even less so now after these past few months (years? centuries?) the words choke up my throat & bring tears to my eyes & leave an ache in my heart. 🥺😢😞

Ohh soulkin..I know they do 🤗..I agree with you, a otal reset might be the only answer for the human race. I would not be surprised if we were nearing that time…Meanwhile I ask for mercy for those who are suffering the most. Thank you for your very honest and touching comment.🤗❤️🤗

I’m so glad you wrote this Karima, and so to the point. We are merely puppets in the hands of who are, at the lowest level, an evil brand of World leaders. How dare they act in this way! Sting’s song really fitted as the aptly chosen background to your haunting voice. When he left ‘The Police’ and started on his solo career, he produced 4 fantastic albums and I remember how much this song resonated with me.

Wow thank you Pete for coming all the way to my blog to leave your comment. You know I had moved to Costa Rica 10 years before so really missed Sting as a solo performer. I was watching a Netflix limited seies (British) called Adolescence and I found it on YouTube by the same children’s choir. Somehow children singing these lyrics was even more emotional and without knowing what I would write, I played this version of Fragile on a loop….and this poem came out. I have been very very stifled like I wanted to say something about our world and couldn’t find the words. Sting’s song helped me find them. Thank you for what you say here…and I agree.

Thank you so much for this comment, Michele. I just felt this great need to write it, and that version of Sting’s song , children singing, brought it out of me. Yes, the music itself is so powerful, I agree… and it works with my poem.

So unfortunately true. But it is a poets job to speak the truth! Well done, as usual. Such a powerful opening line, too!

Karima, I was ‘sold’ at…”The War. The Greed. The Destruction. The Injustice, now our daily bread”…deeply touched by your heartfelt poem in your beautiful and expressive voice…it’s so powerful that it feels like a thousand knives piercing my chest…Truth is what you’ve revealed from that chest…Courageous, you truly are…how sad is all of this…what has happened to people?…helpless is the feeling…Politicians – I won’t even go there coz we already know about their interests…Bank interest is what human lives have become to them…or perhaps, it has always been like this…A beautiful, heartfelt and courageous sharing you’ve voiced…The choice of music is perfect…thank you so much for this poem, my dear friend ❤️

Ahhh Navin…thank you for this deeply thought-out comment. You know I was working on a quasi-cartoon at the time, not really an animated movie, just my Pisces sisters and me dressed up in these adorable characters, running around a cartoon like scenario…It was cute but it was meaningless…just high in calories with no nutritional value, if you know what I mean:) and something in me was screaming…”Get real! You are avoiding your own thoughts!! It was so strong I couldn’t deny it…my own conscience was refusing to put my time into it…and then I heard Sting’s song, done by a children’s choir, and the words toppled over themselves to be heard. Thank you so much Naveen for own heartfelt words..It had to be said and I feel glad I said it.🤗☮️💕

It is about profits. Well said. About greed. Violence on anyone can’t be justified, let alone on innocent people. And majority of who gets killed has nothing to do with the war of the world leaders (not of the world mind you). But I’ve seen people supporting it, even demanding it, clearly influenced by a few individuals who have nothing but their own interests in mind. Good of you to be putting it out there, loud and clear. It could be our turn the next time.

This whole situation in Gaza has my soul afflicted…it’s so hard for me to rise above the frustration and weakness I feel when I confront this reality and know that the world, yes the whole world is to blame, for letting this go on. Now the people are starving, a man-made famine, soon they plan is to push them out of their land for good…. and we helplessly stand by..My words seem so insignificant …my efforts almost in vane. Thank you Sundaram for listening… that means so much to me.

Hearing this is even more powerful than reading it with the sweet voices in the background, Karima. It truly is beyond words but you found them which shared the bottom line so well. It’s so heartbreaking and I think we are all on a list but the children it’s despicable! ❤️

You are filled with humanity…it shows easily in your writings. Thank you!
