Cut To Fade
<<*>>
Propping my head in the window,
the afternoon light dips and sways,
my hands caress my prayer scarf,
my chin is tied and trussed;
Now it’s
steady as my gaze.
A black gauze hood flaps behind me…
I am so tucked away inside
not even the breeze
can reach in there
and find me,
a prisoner in my
arid wake-land.
Cut to fade,
End of days.
I’m now the pauper princess
trapped in my second story tower.
I tap the minutes on the sill
the shadows darken on the hour.
The sun escapes in one quick swoop
which brings
the muezzin’s haunting call
and streaming on my cable connection,
Leonard Cohen groans about his fall.
I have two good eyes
that can see so far
and have cried a thousand tears,
just a few for me,
but
many more for humanity
over 30 years.
Cut to fade
End of days.
I have my poetic lifeline
tied up tight inside my head
and
I am clinging to
the knotted sheets
of tangled words
to keep from going dead.
I watch a drab bird fly away
I sense the jailer’s footsteps
in the hall
I would trade all electronic gadgetry,
my jewels and high class pageantry,
for one successful launch in life
for one rebirth right here and now,
one swan dive in free- fall
Cut to fade
End of days.

* This is an older poem from another lifetime:)
“I am so tucked away inside
not even the breeze
can reach in there
and find me,
a prisoner in my
arid wake-land.” -I love this, so beautifully/vulnerably said. This piece is so deep with emotion and ripe in feeling…each word sinks in my soul. Thank you for sharing this piece from your past, it is so powerfully mesmerizing 🖤🖤.

Ace, your words,”each word sinks in my soul, can only happen because your soul is always ready to receive…people. histories. connections…You let it all into you with wide-open arms. How incredibly giving and generous of you..How brave and how wise. You are blessed Ace..I hope you know that….Always🤗🔆🤗🌟🤗✨

Awww thank you so much Dale…It has been a saga of many acts…Alhamdulillah for each and every one…Even the sad and scary ones…Life is the collage that will reflect how you lived it…..millions of pieces but they do somehow all fit together in the bigger picture.

Such a powerful piece in all its portrayed vulnerability and yet undeniable will to survive. It made me feel protective and I’m glad that it is all in the past. Isn’t it amazing, though, that today you can reflect on those feelings and see how your life has changed for something much healthier, full of love and inner peace? It’s easy to despair in hard times. If only we could know better days lie ahead. But then, maybe, we would turn out different if we knew more. The machinations of life are a mystery, really. Hugs!

Oh Joey..what a good surprise to find your comment waiting for me this morning…I love that you felt protective of me…Hugss and yes, as you say, I am in a new garden where I flourish.Yes, it is so easy to despair and think…these times will be here forever…but tey never are..change is the rule of Life and good ones can come, and do come, after our darkest moments. The trick is to remember that…sometimes it’shard at the moment. Yes Life itself IS the great mystery..but there is an order to it all..even if sometimes we feel it’s all helpless chaos/ Thank you so much for your beautiful comment…❤️🤗🙏🌹🦋

You reached me deeply with this: “I am so tucked away inside / not even the breeze / can reach in there / and find me, / a prisoner in my / arid wake-land.” The image is so strong and then the feeling being trapped within yourself. This, too, is exceptional: “for one successful launch in life / or one rebirth right here and now, / one swan dive in free- fall”. Lots of brilliance here!
