My Future Pain

It’s a humid balmy dawn after that last late night rain…
the vapor rises from the garden; it’s so late, it’s way past dawn.
Tropical but mystical..it really does walk hand in hand,
like you and I in the growing light,
tropical but mystical, the dew on the grass bathes our toes.

My hand slides up and down your skin, so smooth your marble arms
unconsciously; there’s crazy changes in my heart.
Walk with me, you are the beauty, you are my future pain.
I saw you in the past and now you’re here, but soon you will be gone.

Through all of this,  the insects keeping rhythm with their feet…
this entire scene, will trill away, like a dream once dreamed.
You  proved to me when all the elements are in place,
they can cause an event that will rock a world and bring it down

Before today, it was just a theory; now it’s way too late to deny.

The insects trill,  my heart almost stops when I see you smile.
But no, this is not the ending..  I do not accept we are being ripped apart
and I will shout it to the last star, dying on the morning sky,
“No, this is not the ending!” I do not accept
we are being ripped apart.

My heart  knows the truth I’m going to lose you, one of these dawns.
You will kiss me goodbye and promise to call and disappear into the mist…
like the waning night sky being eaten by the encroaching day.
I know I have this in store; it’s something that I’m waiting for.
I can see the future and in it…I stand alone.

*Footnote: I admit I am quite proud of this musical piece:) It came together in a very singular way, and as always, I feel I have very little to do with its making..although, of course I do:)
Someone asked me for the instrumental version of this piece and I am happy to share it:)  You can download or stream it here https://filedn.com/l7Df4R6F1DTBv0B99l7YP6L/Unacceptable.mp3

The original music was entitled “Unacceptable”:)
After struggling to learn the new version of Garage Band (after being on the older versions, the last 13 years) I am feeling like WOW..I am beginning to know what I am doing:)
I told Dale I feel like “Whistler’s Mother of Garage Band ” haha.
So I hope you enjoyed it and the poem was written to the music (On a loop of course) to try and get the right, sensual bittersweet/darkish-lightish mood:)

the poem & music are perfect, & i love them💞 i know that feeling you speak about at the end. it visits me sometimes too.

with some things, dispassion is like a bandaid on a gut wound, but better than nothing at all. what a creative way to deal with weltschmertz: this poem & the music😘thank you, soulkin, for sharing this creative gem❤️🌹❤️

    • Ahhh my pleasure soulkin…we both have lived long enough to probably have lived this too, in its variations and intensities. The music came first and the only way I could write a poem to it to recite with it was to loop it and see what came…Interesting this is what came…a bit of an old memory in a new way:):) I was thinking of just putting the music out there on it’s own as an instrumental version…and actually I think I will:):) Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback too..See you Saturday…inshallah:)

  9. The music and storyline are perfectly choreographed. Amazing how you do that! It’s like you’re the Volcano and these delightful productions are the Lava boiling and bubbling until they EXPLODE, spill over (out of your head, lol) and flow downhill upon release to ‘us’ (smiles). I love your emotional authenticity and how you’ve extended beyond the cool imagery that Dale creates along with the comfort of your voice by including these amazing tracks! Seems there’s no end to your talent, especially because you keep tackling the hard skills until you harness their power and then mix everything with your passionate interests. Well done, Sissy-Poo ((hugs))

Priceless Sissy Poo, like your fabulous, funny and totally inspirational comments..you’ve been tossing my way for…quite awhile now. I have to rethink the outer space project, but maybe a nice birdwatching tour on Kepler could produce some fine scenes..We need to brainstorm one of these days…Let’s reign our South African Sissy too:):) Love you Sis…loved this comment too🤗

First my dear dear beloved friend, Dale did an amazing job as always setting the scene it is breath-taking. On the woman’s dress on the left you can actually see what seems to be the light catching sewn on pearls illuminating. Just gorgeous work Dale.

Karima, this music is so very good, I absolutely love it and the beat is so perfect for this gorgeous piece of writing. There are many lines that catch my breath as I envision you walking perhaps with yourself, when you were a very young woman. Metaphorically that is how I see this piece but of course I have not idea for sure, except that it is so beautiful and your spoken word is gorgeous.

My favorite stanza is actually the last. These words are the perfect ending which by the way I love the way you did this with your spoken word. So talented you are my friend. Just love your work. As you know I am taking a 5 day break after all the work from a book launch but I could just not wait until it was over to take a look at this. Thank you for letting me know about it too. Also how did you get that good on the new release of garage band – very impressive also Karima.

    • Joni thank you so much for listening to this and leaving me (as always) your beautiful and detailed comment. You are so perceptive with small details, which is something you show in your poetry that I love and I love your astute observations when you comment on something of mine too.

This poem was born from the music and the details about how this musical piece came together, still feel like a magic act, and we can talk about it more when we talk again.

As you know my eternal muse will always be Umahmad….she is my own iconic real life figure of an example of platonic romance, that I know can exist, because I had it with her:)

She never got to walk the tropical gardens with me, sadly, but that is the poetic license we can take when we create. I too, and I say this humbly with little ownership of this piece (felt like automatic composing/writing) that it is one of my favorites and you’re right, others seem to vibrate to it too. You know about those special poems…*smiles, I had the honor of recording one of yours:)

Love you Joni…and I appreciate this so much…I know how overwhelmed you have been with the launch of your book…thank you for your visit and for leaving me this gorgeous comment..

      Talk tomorrow? 3pm?

      Love,

      Kari

    • Wow Naveen oh my listen to your comment!!! You make me feel how much your enjoyed this coming together of everything . I feel very little ownership over the final piece… it just seems it wanted to be born … and so it was… almost without me doing much of anything.. this is so hard to explain but I know you have felt it too, when everything just falls together on its own. It really feels like that. Thank you dear Navin for your beautiful and very inspiring comment. I am blown away ❤️🙏🤗🌹🥰

    • Cindy!!! Welcome back again:)..always such a treat for me to read one of your comments. This piece, how it came together, like automatic composing, was a very rare occurence for me personally…and of course took all feelings of ownership of it away…I could just enjoy it as a bystander and in this mood, I wrote the poem. That’s my how-I-did-it story but thank you so much for your wonderful words..Lol I see myself with a Garage Band stauette in my hand…grease colored, a figure standing with a tire iron in one hand and the other perched a top a truck tire. I would give a great 15 second speech, until they dragged me off into the wings. Really, thank you one more time, for believing in me and what I do:):) ❤️🙏🤗
