The Video

Hi everyone,
I chose a rather broad topic:) but then narrowed it down to this 3 minute look at the Human Race…everything from love to war and the rat race we run for most of our lives. Original Music & Poem, this machinima was shot in both Second Life and Kitely in Opensim. A special thank you to James Ottobre and his amazing garden photos taken in his personal garden. The Human Race:
a race from birth to death.
There is a parallel race from 9 to 5 
it’s called the Rat Race…
repetitive, 
and round ‘n round 
day after day…
making money 
fulfilling  all those responsibilities

There are other ways to live a life
but it takes a lot of courage to break free
and those who enjoy their work
are the lucky ones
That’s the dream and after only  6 decades
they can retire to finally smell the flowers 
enjoy the trees.
The Rat Race calls  for some sacrifice..
actually… just about your entire life


Then there is war
Fighting a Big lose lose
where no body wins
someone asked in the past,
“War! What is it good for?” 
Some cruel population control?
where you lose your soul?
A madman’s last hurrah of power
Killing & Grabbing what’s not yours
hour after hour?
Humans are not the nicest
animals on this land
Personally, I prefer dogs in the waves
and laughing well fed children 
playing happily in a park
making up their games.

Humans like news but also flowers
I prefer a chrysanthemum 
to a live- stream killing of anything
or anyone 
Humans do vibrate to beauty
to balance and design and creativity
and flowers in a vase in  good taste
Ahh makes our brains feel balanced
All is in its place,

Then the returning rat race
heading for home sweet home
heading to the bar to night school
to a second job just to make it through
Or to cook a dinner pick up the kids at the sitter
It’s not easy being human
multi tasking through the hours
through our lives 
and  I’m going to tell you the real truth
where we spend most of our time?
is in this daily grind.

But it could be worse
we  could be ordered or seduced or 
or just not told the real truth
and then there we are in a far away land
in the middle of a war..
some humans gravitate to it
while others returning home  lament they ever
walked through that recruiting door
No one gets out unscathed
or is ever the same as before

Then
on the other hand  we can love
we can tango til the sun comes up
make love with passion with a significant other
or just be lucky for a night & hook up 
take a walk on the beach, 
and get to know one another
If you ask me
Love is the very best part
of being human

And you already know by now
what is on the bottom of my list
of human traits & practices
We  are compassionate by nature
and war bootcamps that compassion
right out of us
We start blowing up anything in our path
kill kill kill til it becomes a thrill

In this absurd world of Power & Greed
we all could use something higher
to balance our  needs
and keep us sane
through the growing days of insanity..
Take time out for yourself
practice in whatever you believe
and peace and love 
can still take their rightful place
as the corner-stones of our humanity

Cloudy-Day Blues

It’s a gray low-cloudy day
and I’m listening to your guitar play
on a YouTube loop
because, it’s still as good
as it used to be and that
makes me really happy.

Time’s traveled around
more than a half century
and yet  you sound Wow!
You sound even better now.
Bluesy riffs your fingers running
up and down the neck..
Oh you know it all by heart
it’s up in your head as you’
find and press those frets.

Ageless in your sound
you are the perfect harmony
for a fog- bound afternoon
and I’m the only one here;
you’re playing just for me.
Some scenes need a background theme
and you have written the perfect score.
I’ve been sampling your wares
like hot apple pies
and you’re  the roving salesmen
of musical delights.

I’m really glad we had our time
way back when,
You had the magic then
and it’s not gone away..not yet
au contraire,
it’s sounding so hypnotic & smooth
on this laid back afternoon,
you’ve brought me the perfect Blues

Yearning & Indifference explores this very common dynamic, through my music video  with original recited poetry.

You on  the right  side, stoic as a rock
Me on the left side wishing for your touch
That’s what we’ve been doing
ever since we tied the knot
I guess this is my lost  quest
that I can’t seem to give up.

I’ve changed into a thousand looks
to  try and catch your eye
you remind of a waiter
who can’t  see me, no matter how i try
Even waving madly right in front of your screen
Hello !?maybe it’s better to pay the check…and leave the scene.

Yearning & Indifference our dynamic from the start
5 years later, the hope that I can change you
is unraveling and about to come apart.
I guess I was born with  rose colored  vision
the kind that sees what you want to see and not reality
and  honestly , I’m thinking there is no way  to touch your heart.

I’m trembling in place but not from your touch
but one rejection after another is  just too much
You know I’ve caught you watching porno on your laptop screen
Is there is something else you want from me?
Well  just take some time out of your busy day
and  talk to me Just talk to me .. you know you could teach me. 
You gave me the world, just forgot the love
you don’t  really know me , and I know you…just kind 0f
In this marriage prison we both did some wasted time
Now For us to turn into a happily ever after
I wouldn’t give a dime

It’s taken me too long to put some courage in my words’
I’m  yearning to be free, today the cage is open for the bird
Churning & yearning can turn the milk and honey sour
There comes a point of no return  
when I’ll leave this ivory tower
I don’t expect you to even notice 
when the doors slam after me
so committed to your work time/playtime
little chats and secrets, 
you’ll never even hear me leave …

Swimming at the Very Edge of Night YouTube

Hi everyone,
I wrote this poem and music last year and posted it here, but I always thought it could
Make a cool (blue) video. Now today here it is. I explained on YouTube:

“I am a swimmer! but I must stay out of the sun, so I swim at the very edge of night. This is a machinima made in Second Life with some real life backgrounds I composed the music and wrote and recite the poem. Please play in 4K fullscreen and for languages other than English,….Click on CC and then again on auto generated to find a drop down of many world languages.  CC only will give you English captions usually. Swimming is Life!!:)” Enjoy

I’m Alive! Music & Film on YouTube

Remember  a year ago, I wrote a poem and recited it to my own music, called I’m Alive!?
Well I always knew it should have been a video,
but I was a bit lazy back then:)  to make one.
So…after writing a few sort of “down” poems about the state of our world, I thought it was a good time to celebrate the simple fact… here we are; we’re still here!!  We’re Alive! I’m Alive!
I redid the music and re recorded the poem…I was never happy with my voice the first time.

Big changes are blowing in the wind… They could come from any direction, but it’s time to open our eyes. Climate change is one of them and we see the effects everywhere in the world, most recently in Kerriville Texas and Camp Mystic Children’s Camp, where over 128 people lost their lives, or are missing, many of them children,. My heart goes out to all the families who lost loved ones in this tragic way.

Kari’s Bar & Dance – A Music Video by Karima Hoisan

That’s me, Kari in 2009 in Second Life

Hi everyone,
I am unusually excited to show and share this one:)
The music is mine, written on Garage Band but when I was writing it,
I had no idea what I would do with it. I admit, smiles, I myself love it!!  Haha..not for lack of modesty, but just because it blew me away when I finally finished it. Now,  I can not get it out of my head…oh and something new, I sing back up vocals on this one:)
After listening to it, I knew there was only one thing….make a nostalgic retro video
about my Bar & Dance in Second Life. The way we were…the way it was and why I was
captivated almost 18 years ago (in December)

Kari’s Bar & Dance  turned 16 years old this year and still exists.

Kari’s Bar & Dance opened its doors for the first time in New Toulouse in Second Life in the very beginning of 2009. This machinima is my contribution to remembering and honoring the good ol’ days of Second Life. This month is Second Life’s 22 Birthday (SL22B)
Kari’s Bar & Dance now resides on my own sim, LINC Island as part of LINC City, but many of the original furnishings are still being used today. It’s barely changed in over 16 years.
A special thank you to Dale Innis for dancing so gracefully and not stepping on my toes.
