Blue Glass Bottle

Blue Glass Bottle

I pour my heart out to the sea
standing on a dock
waving to the ship that
just set sail to parts unknown.
You are standing on the deck;
you,
who have been really loved
in life and yet today
you leave alone.

I finish scribbling
down my thoughts

and as there is
no script
I’m sure, that some get lost.
When the ink is dry
I fold it twice,
then wrap it on my finger
round and round,
slide it in a blue glass bottle,
cork and toss it as the sun
is going down.

With all the faith I have
in life,
the coincidence,
that brought me here
to see you off,
I have no doubt some day
you’ll read my every word
and on some distant shore,
you’ll throw back
my blue glass bottle
full
of yours,

and it will bob and lurch
for weeks on heavy seas.
Then… I know with certainty,
like the stars and moon and trees,
one day when I least expect it,
dancing on the waves
of shallow waters,
your blue glass bottle,
without announcing its arrival

will wash-up at my feet.

Lovely images, and emotions. The traveler was lucky to have you there to see them off, and lucky to be exchanging pretty bobbing bottles!

    • Yes, in love and connection all moves sometimes because of coincidence…I trust Life knows what it’s doing… I’m like that bottle floating…eventually I will end up…where I was meant to be:) Thank you Dale…

This is such a glorious write, dear Karima. It speaks to me of love and loss, and the wisdom we can glean from the nature that surround us. Watching as trees say goodbyes to leaves, and flowers say goodbye to petals, knowing that a reuniting is inevitable in another realm on a different world. Misty-eyed, and a heart full of your gorgeous poetry. ❤️🌹🙏🦋💫🌸

    • Awww Jeff how totally sensitive and perceptive you are..Yes it will all come back around..InshAllah. Can you imagine a connection, a communication only using messages in bottles, thrown in the sea? If they were answered one day, and came back to you..there could be no doubt..this truly was your destiny:)Loved your words on this dear friend…thank you so much for wading in my poetry🤗🙏❤️🦋🌷

Oh, it is always my pleasure to immerse myself in your words, dear Karima. Always. Ah, how lovely that thought is – truly one’s destiny. Indeed. I think we actually get those messages on a daily basis, yet may be missed by most people. I know you get that too. I’m so happy my reflective response landed well. It is always an honor to be here and to read you. ✨🌻🙏🌹💖

  7. I like the way this opens in a very spontaneous way and then becomes reflective. As always each reader interprets differently but that is part of the pleasure, finding a meaning and enjoying that pleasure.

The feeling in this poem is so touching…the imagery is sublime…so beautifully written…right from the very first verse, I was captivated…your gentle touches of artistry can be felt…the way you slowly unfold the story…this life…where there’s no script to scribble down the thoughts…the real communication…where nothing is prepared…it’s happening in that very moment…instantly…exchanging the thoughts on the bed of waves & wind…at its own speed…where bottle might take some time to reach…but it’ll definitely return to the sender one day…out of nowhere…full of white thoughts written on a black paper in that blue bottle…keep expressing & shining your light, Karima ✨💙💫

    • Ahhh Navin,,,Your comment really got to me…All for good reasons believe me:)You are one of those readers who is not only a fantastic poet on your own, but also one of the most generous commentators I have ever met here. You let yourself wade into my lines and then allow yourself to just fall in.. so my words surround you and you find your own words, just the right words, to tell m how that feels.. My ocean becomes a ” bed of waves & wind” and there you are alongside the bottle, as it arrives on the shore.. You can see inside…and yes, now I can see what you see too… black paper, with white writing… one would almost think you had sent it..*smiles( the color of you blog), but really you are just the most empathetic observer…unbelievable..how you see my poetry..I am astounded and delighted that you do:):) Thank you Navin, for your beautiful commentary. 🌟
