Uber-Ballooner
Passion has come in many forms
over the years..
but lately my passion is
something new, that flies
hovers dips and floats away
then returns
(when I’m distracted)
to my room.
Quixotic, friends of the air,
light and in harmony,
gravity can barely touch you..
as you sail on the…
open- window- corridors of draft,
the cross -current snake wind,
that makes you spin all of a sudden
as you float out the door…to rise higher in the
living room, dipping your heads under the
rafters and joyously explore.
Helium Balloons.
I love you all, but I do admire
the shiny beauties, even more
made of mylar (sighs)
I adore you, my mylar,
that seals in all the helium
and keeps you
flying for weeks… for months.
I tie extra long ribbons to you
that you might gracefully
sweep the floor.
I have 7 floating now..
but 7 is hardly enough,
to make you (or anyone) feel you are
underwater when you enter
my room.
(This scene is what I’m working towards)
and would take 3 times 7 or 21,
gorgeous bobbing mylar shapes
To complete my desired effect!
Then, when entering my doorway,
you would need to part the waving
ribbons, like you were below the sea
with Men-of-War (Portuguese)
that instead of stinging, would
delight you as their ribbony
appendages brush your bare arm
when you sit below, admiring,
all around you, their hypnotic flow,
while relaxing in an overstuffed chair.
I am moving now to the second level..
dare I say higher?
I am contemplating a helium tank
in my future but the kind that brings
Life (not Eternal Sleep) and can keep
all my loved ones afloat FOREVER.
These are the dreams of an Uber-Ballooner,
to sit back and survey all those graceful
sea creatures, forming a kelp bed, (over the bed)
A waving mass of delicate satin tentacles
air-born bodies, gaseous friends (!?!)
who are magnets for awe, fun and delight.
“Oh I want to show you something new….
Just follow me, it’s in my room”

This is very beautiful Kari. I love “the cross current snake wind,” great line. As poets we are in love with the mystery of the sky and the ocean.
I love the idea that you want so many ribbons that you feel you must part the ribbons hence the seaweed to enter. Such a beautiful and creative write Kari.
“magnets for awe fun and delight”
As a film maker you are looking always at movement and things that entrance us. Sending you much love and many hugs to you dear Kari. Blessings always, Joni 🌹

Ahh yes, my plan now is 3 ribbons per balloon…21 ballons flying, 63 ribbon- tentacles floating through the air.. I have a dear friend who is bringing bags of them back in her suitcase(they weigh almost nothing). I have amazingly found support from people who know the delight of creating magic where it’s least expected. Thank you sweet friend for even enjoying the poetry in my odd proposed project.. Lots of love to you my Joni…always… Kari 🎈

You really do find poetry everywhere! And delightful things. A lovely fun meditation.
This is like “now that we’re grownups we can have cake every day!” except that unlike cake, a helium balloon is no threat to health.
Maybe I’ll see if I can get a few delivered here. 🙂

Exactly Dale..what I am trying to say..Now that I’m grown up, I can have an underwater balloon room ..If I have learned anything in the last 15 years of virtuality, it’s that some fun things can cross over.. I think uber-balloonery is one:) I hope so..I am trying my best to make it come true….now that I’m all grown up:):) Thank you for such an inspiring comment.

Spoken like a fellow dedicated ballooner and thank you J. for your knowing comments on such a niche/decor style for the home. Once you’ve tasted the delights of balloon foolery, cavorting on currents and delighting big and small, it’s pretty hard to go back to Netflix and cross-stitch:):) Hugs to my companion afar, who knows the delights I speak of:):)

What shapes and colors do you prefer, Karima?

Big smiles..now you are opening up a geeky ballooner conversation:) Well the round ones last longest.. must be mylar, as plastic or anything else deflates quickly..I love the stars, but perhaps for their shape, they too lose air quickly..Someone is bringing me big flowers and fish…I’ll let you know how they work. They all need a bit of weight (long tails) to move more freely.Colors? I love blue but no discrimination in color:):) They all look beautiful, floating around:) Thanks for asking David:)

Ahhhh yes that Portuguese Man-of-War “balloon” colorful but pretty stingy hehe. Swadharma is a kindred balloon spirit…funny how we met here on a poetry site:) Bring a few into your house and enjoy them…They bring another dimension in:) Thanks so much Joyce, for commenting:)

Oooh, nice!!! It’s awesome that WordPress helped bring two kindred balloon enthusiasts together as friends. I definitely need to invite a few lighter-than-air adventurers into my home as well.

Somewhat dreamy, somewhat mysterious, but overall impact seems to be beautiful, as your beautiful verses have depicted well. Whether it’s virtual space or physical one, one thing is certain that Karima will have her own identity in her words and passion. All the best, Karima 👍💐💖

Awww thank you Kaushal…very inspiring comment for me…I think we can put art in our lives in many different ways..and the effects are always positive too. Many things of course are possible in the virtual that are not in our “atomic lives” Helium nature is a perfect fit as its physics is very different than most we see, and filling balloons with it, we can create a total fantasy…at least for awhile:) Thank you again for this great comment!! You made me smile 😀 🙏🎈🙏
