I Eat Color And It Makes Me Dance
I eat color and it makes me dance.
It flows into my open mouth like ribbons of sweet candy
and flavors me to close my eyes.
I see food where you see light beams, I reach out and taste them
with my lips and my eyes roll up into my mind
and I smile while color drips down my chin.
I can’t help myself, this is how it’s always been.
I eat color and it nibbles tenderly back on me and bathes my face.
I will be obese on pale steel blue served to me on orange plates
to savor with silverware of iridescent emerald spoons.
My tongue feels drops of red that turn to pink that turn to dance and then…
I turn around and there is a plié and I am executing it.
I throw back my head and raise my arms and all the colors wash over my eyes,
my nose is being courted by pale off-white whiffs, that mix with orange making peaches and cream and fantasy dreams, and I swallow it excitedly, then….
I dance**~~~~ and
I dance**~~~~ and
I dance!

Who loves color like I do:)
“My tongue feels drops of red that turn to pink that turn to dance and then…” – that LINE!! Omg this whole piece is just stunning. I love the formatting of having every line be a different color – that is GENIUS. The depth and rhythmic flow throughout this is just magical to read (and listen :))). Every word hit me in such a powerful way, you have such a gift of touching the heart on so many levels. I am so honored you dedicated this to me, you make my week!!! Connecting with you means so very much to me, and our poems connecting means even more 🤍🤗. Appreciate you so, dear friend!!!!

A beautiful triptych – poetry, music, art. Great reading, Karima.
(A quick question, Karima – do you need to up upgrade to upload ‘audio’ onto WordPress?)

Thank you so much Jay, I’m really glad you enjoyed it. Yes, unfortunately you have to upgrade to embed audio and really, that was the main reason I decided to do it.

Awww thank you sweet Joni and so glad you saw my poem so visually and all the gorgeous colors. Yes in that period it seems I was discovering the use of brilliant colors in art and architecture, it swept me away. I wrote many poems on the subject, as if I had just opened my eyes and discovered color, for the first time. I dedicated it to Grace who ironically was posting her own color obsessive poem, so it seemed fitting:) You’re so kind to say so Joni…big hugs and much love to you my dear friend…always ❤️🤗❤️

Adore this old one! The colored text is so you; different and daring and works perfectly. And the new audio is wonderful. Honored as always to have helped; you should mention that you made the actual image from the various parts that I did. 🙂

Ohhh thank you thank you..Naveen, I can’t tell you how it makes me feel, to know how much you liked this one:) I have posted 3 in 3 days, older poems all about color. The last one, Dinner For Two https://karimahoisan.com/2023/01/07/dinner-for-two-2/ puts all 3 into perspective. I would love you to listen to it…it’s an unusual (for me) love poem…the footnote explains:) Thank you my wonderful friend, for reading and commenting. Such a special one, you are 🌹

Ohhh, I love that my reading gave you goosebumps, Naveen:) I think you are one of a very few who totally surrender to a reading, a spoken word, but that is because you too, add electrical charges with your own readings too:) This poem was a colorful flow of crazy feelings and images, when I realized how very much color filled me..as if I had ingested it, had just eaten an entire meal of it. The music did seem perfect to me too..I used to do this a lot at my live readings back then…it was requested.. Thank you for immersing in this one Hugs 🌈

True, when I listen to spoken word, I surrender to those words & everything else disappears…you, my friend are a gifted one…the way you combine the different elements to create such wonderful spoken word requires quite a lot from the creator…keep expressing…keep having such colourful meals ✨💟💫

I love that you said you gobbled up color with me and yes, I am a glutton for this kind of “soul food” that just brightens my very being:) May we both always find the words at hand, to express what makes us vibrate and live fuller lives. Thank you Naveen for another inspiring and much loved comment❤️🙏🌈
