“Night Walkers” by Dale Innis on Midjourney

I am not going to give a big intro…This poem is what it says it is:)
Please listen to the audio spoken word, while you read our story:)
The music is all mine:) Composed with Garage Band. Click Play:)

We Vampires

So many versions of you and me
parade past my heavily made- up eyes,
reclining on my velvet pillowed settee
it’s all so beautiful to remember
even the lies.
When we were conscious vampires
walking the dangerous night, along the foggy docks
We were the danger but never to each other
and anyway, it was a pact sealed tight and locked.

Shape- shifting was something
that came so natural.
We had every costume change
at our finger tips and we wrote
the plays gliding up and down
the streets on our tippy – toes
we were totally gorgeous and scary.

We were all of it
and yet none of it could exist
without mutual intent and mutual consent.
Glorious days when everything was new,
only limited by our minds and you and I
had torn down the borders
so… no limits ever got in our way.

Did we invent the plays to be the stars?
I always gave you equal billing,
because that’s the way we are.
We change bodies, points of view
even a few times we ran on horse legs
just to see what horsies feel
galloping down the beach to the levee,
heart pounding rhythmically,
Majestic and gracefully.

We recreated ourselves weekly and yet,
inside was the very same soul-infused entity
that mirrored the actual outer world
of you & me.
I was bigger, you were smaller
and another day you were
calling the shots and I was answering..
“Yes Sir! Yes Ma’am!”
and trying not to crack a smile.
We role – played it like method actors
and we reached brilliance, pure silliness;
made it up as we went along.
We invented the roles and we didn’t
just bend our genders,
we twisted them up like they were Art.
We sculpted all the combinations and
attitudes, either of us could imagine
and we put on these spontaneous plays
at the Jazz Bar, every night in
New Toulouse

Our friends were the audience
or sometimes we all changed roles
watched the customers ad- libbing
while we seated ourselves in the very first rows
wondering how their blood flows…

For you see,
with all our culture and unique way of being
we are still vampires strolling the night,
translucent skin and if you cross our path
you should be prepared to feel our bite.

* Footnote: I was a vampire for many years in the virtual.
What a fun role!! I made Dale Innis a vampire too:):)
years ago, and we strolled the streets just being fabulous:)

    • Ah yes when everything is new and there seem to be limitless possibilities for creativity, for the first years after landing in a virtual world, is like letting kids loose in a candy store with a fist full of $$:)
Yes, this is a playful post and also something that seemed to fit my new musical composition of Latin-Jazz-Vampire:) Thanks so much for reading, listening and appreciating my soulkin 💃🏻 🧛🏻‍♀️🧛🏻‍♂️ 🌹❤️

    • Thank you my co-vamp over the years and also for the first image..I love it!! Ahh thank you for mentioning the audio…after laboring over it 3 days, I think it came out OK. After being used to the old Garage Band, learning the new version is like teaching an old dog…new tricks but…with patience even we can still learn something new!!

Wow…simply wow, Karima…I love this spoken word…I loved it so much that I mirrored my phone to my TV, which is connected to my stereo…I then listened to it quite loud!…amazing music you’ve created…what can I say about your voice?…you know it that I love your beautiful & deep voice…”we roleplayed as method actors”…and then later “We twisted them up as they were art” 🔥🔥…what a beautiful creation from your mind & heart ❤️

    • Hello my dear Navin..Hoping you are feeling almost all recovered and thank you for taking the time to listen to this too:) I am honored you played it thru stereo speakers and WOOOOOO that you loved my music. I have been procrastinating learning the newer Garage Band that is so different than I am used to…well this is the first piece I finally finished, where I was happy with the result so thank you so much for commenting on it:):) You made my day Naveen! Love that you loved my own favorite lines too..I can say this, because this whole poem came out in one flow just listening to my music..after, I honestly felt no personal ownership of the result but “enjoyed” reading it. I know you know what I am saying here:):) It’s not lack of humility, it’s just the way it works sometimes.Thank you my friend and hoping you are well on the way in your recovery:) 🙏🌹

  15. Oh I loved it, Karima, especially how you ended it. I was myself a vampire all along, gliding gracefully around dark streets, with this wonderful music in my ears, and your voice, as if living a flashback. And my smile widened slowly, wickedly into a sharp one, as the last stanza rolled over, the delicious smell of blood arousing a great rumbling in my hungry stomach.
Your delivery is great as usual. You add something extra there, something I can’t name, that goes amiss without your voice. Your pauses, drawls, inflections, they are a poem in themselves. And your music. Wow! You are a deadly combination of a poet and musician. And you bring them together in a such a bewitching way. Your music enhances the effect of your words, and your words that of your music.
As always, a great time listening to you, Karima. Take care…

    • Weeeee you listened to this one… I loved that I made you a vampire for the duration of the music..Such power I have over you Sundaram (muhahaha) Really you delight me, how you let yourself be immersed and flow with my recordings///especially this off- beat, a little edgy at the end (muahaha) Thank you for this most complimentary comment. I just love being “a deadly combination of a poet and musician” in your eyes. Your comments always lift me up, and make believe a bit more in myself…even at this stage in my life, how delightful to know I can still, surprise, thrill and entertain. Smiling big here…thank you dear Sundaram. I treasure these beautiful reviews…🙏🌹💃🏻
