Collaborating With My Son – Two Drone Videos

My son, Julian, the singer/musician is also a real estate agent at the beach.
He invested about a month ago in a drone to take videos of the properties he was listing. Then he got the bug to experiment a bit and learn as much as he could by flying it in different occasions. Julian has a good eye for filming and also editing. The first video I will share is of our living/dining room, hallway in the house. It is much harder to fly a drone smoothly indoors and he did this one for practicing, but when he showed it to me, I loved it and added some music so..I present, a few parts of our house to some lovely Arabic music.

The second video is some footage he shot today because I had been asking him to try. For the last three days, exactly when I swim my laps, the vultures have been grabbing air currents and flying almost over our house. I had written a poem in 2008 called “Oh to be a Vulture” and I used to do it to the music you will hear. Well he managed to get some shots although he says he thinks he can do it much better next time, but I was so excited to see what he got and tickled to see me from 500 feet above in my pool:) heehee  That I couldn’t  wait and recorded my poem with the music I use by Peter Kater & Carlos Nakai “Geronimo’s Surrender” Please enjoy my town and home and our vultures as seen as only a drone can see them:) Click Play and Enjoy it in Full Screen!

Oh To Be A Vulture
glide easily on wind,
painting circles without effort,
capturing the updraft
perhaps,
hiding in a low cloud
and then…
It would be I,
that tiny black
rotating spot
reflected in my
grounded,
envious,
eyes.

With every breeze,
I would do it
all over again.

My plumed ailerons
lifting,
tacking
on  each
contrary breeze;
while I dodge
to my advantage,
sky’s the limit
for each flight.
And as winds
change and
leaves rustle;
Air swirls, at take-off time.

“Meet you at the
top of the crest,”
push off and out,
rising,
circling
higher,
wider
just for the
Joy
the
Luck,
that I was now
A Vulture.

Oh my, so beautiful! Love to see your house and country. The vultures look so graceful in their flight, I never imagined them like that 🙂 Thank you for sharing this! Hugs ❤

    • My pleasure Joey..as I said above the drone gives that space navigator feeling we loved so much in Natascha’s virtual filming:) I can’t wait to see what else we can do together. Oh yes, I have been a vulture admirer for years..the condor and the eagle have nothing on them. When they have the right wind, they will literally rise up until they disappear. Bliss!! :)Thank you so much for commenting!🌹

    • Awww thank you soulkin..yes the drone showed off the assets of a few rooms and of course when I was in Jordan for 20 years I collected Art from Iraq and Iran. Plus Jan’s Art (most of which is in my bedroom) but you can glimpse her Goddess in the living room and her meditative drop of water that I wrote the poem re-entry too. Thank you for all your superlatives…This was definitely a good win/win experiment between us and I am hoping we do more in the future:) So glad it made you smile in delight:)

Amazing; the drone motion is so smooth, and it flies so high; I had no idea! Combining these videos (your house is like a museum!) with this music, and your lovely recitation of that poem… All just perfect. The poem seems like it was written just for this.

And Bubbles’ uncertainty about the whole thing is so adorable. 😄

  5. Oh boy, my lights had a hiccup and I lost my whole comment I was just posting to you..Darn! Julian wanted me to tell you this was shot from 500 feet up and that his model can fly as high as 1600 but it’s dangerous because you could have response problems and even just “lose” it. I think my poem had to wait 15 years to finally put it to the right images:) I can’t wait to see what else we invent together and Bubbles.. hesitated there for a second..but remained firm, guarding my bedroom door haha. Thanks so much for commenting Dale:)

A beautiful home, Karima; the video is nicely done. Lovely art, and Bubbles standing guard. I also spotted a bicycle. In my city many people keep theirs in the house, too, as bike theft is so rampant here.

  7. Bravo to Julian Karima. Both pieces are stupendous. Thank you for inviting into your home with your exquisite taste and divine color and artistic pieces. Loved every minute of it and especially your sweet cat that handled himself/ herself .. I forget, with ease and grace but ready for a pounce if need be.. haha❣️
You’re vulture piece was also amazing with keep captures of the circling of birds and you swimming in the pool with your hypnotic voice to entertain and keep us engaged. Congratulations to both of you!❣️

Very interesting post. Love the drone footage. Although it was a vulture in the second one, it reminded me of the song: Fly Like an Eagle.

First of all he’s really good with that drone indoors. If I made an attempt to fly a drone in your magical house there would be nothing but wreckage in its wake! Even the cat is not convinced that this is a good idea.

I love the shot above the vultures looking at your happy swimming place. And of course, this has always been one of my favorite poems of yours. You and the talented Julian have created art from a whole different point of view. Bravo!

    • Thank you Hoyt and I knew you would get a kick out of The Vultures from an aerial viewpoint… Plus there is the old swimming hole below where I am a faithful lapper:):) Your words on your indoor drone abilities made me laugh…Truly Julian has practiced a lot to get to this point…The drone loses the tower signals sometimes indoors…it’s not so easy to shoot like he did..I love Bubbles at the end..also thinking hmmm should I run away or hold my ground?? I’ms so thrilled you came in to see these videos..The first one I wanted to show the new Vulture poem…was you:):)

    • Thank you Layla!! That Vulture poem was one I did a lot at my readings and honestly, for years, swimming in the pool, I had looked up and watched them mesmerized as they glided like eagles until they were out of sight! Amazing birds…very misunderstood:):)

I once had a meditative vision that I was an eagle. This reminds me of that moment on a beach in Belize, but I was not there. I was high aloft in the air, traveling through time.
