“Open Door” by Dale Innis on Midjourney
Fire and Smoke
For Umahmad
I won’t close that door…as if I ever could.
I know it’s all up to me, but honestly is it …really?
Do you not play a part in this sad tragedy, my eternal flame?
Like being in hell and heaven now, for me is all the same.
In the world of shadows, I think they crowned you Queen.
And you come and go as you desire, igniting fires.
I am helpless to resist you when you call out my name,
I give in, let you in, but you go up in smoke… ahh who’s to blame?
I could go mad, and write just for the pleasure of your company
My beautiful unreality, is now our waiting room that’s waiting patiently.
I’m unprepared to accept the truth and so I will never close that door
That you left wide open when you breathed your last, to cross that shore.
Fire and smoke, dark bewitchment holds me against my will, paralyzed
Yet your memory almost pales and leaves, when I grasp on to reality.
But there is nothing real to hear or see; when you ride that swollen moon
And as much as I try to latch the door, it stays ajar in hopes I’ll see you soon.

Oh my soulkin…I know you get this. Oddly enough, I was in a time of “few hauntings” by her and I received a confirmation that a poem (to her) I had submitted to Spillwords Last Year, would be published soon. I decided at least for my blog, to record it to the perfect music, and I did…and listening…oh my the fire and smoke blew back in and I wrote this new poem to her. In other words smiles, the muse inspired herself….somehow:) Creativity is one of the Big Mysteries!!

creativity is a living power: maya’s very own, in fact🌈 to make something that didnt exist in that form before is a fiercely creative act akin to childbirth🥰🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
& it is not nearly as painful!🤪💕
this creativity also does not want to leave the stage as the performance is so very satisfying❤️🤗🌈💃🏻

Beautiful! You have this talent for saying universal things in unique and personal ways. She has touched your life so deeply, and you (and she!) always keep that door open… It takes bravery!

Thank you Dale..yes I really don’t think I have a choice now..almost 11 years later..but my muse adores conjuring her up when she moves close by, rippling the curtains, stabbing my hear with nostalgia. Thank you for the perfect image too…after a false start, this one won:)

Beautifully written. In our minds we create our own version of a reality where the memories of others most certainly play an important part.

Thank you David for your wise reply..and I agree with you. Our memories can affect our realty all through life, some inspire, some haunt, but they do change how we see our life:)

Beautiful poem! I could feel the intensity, almost insanity, and deep emotions through every line of the poem. This is what you get when a poem’s speaker, tone, and mood perfectly align.
