Karima Performs@Circe’s New Poet’s Sanctuary ~ Saturday~ Feb. 23rd 11:30 amslt

“Ohhh, another new venue for me,”she says excitedly!… and not only that, but a chance to read my poetry back to back with my gifted friend and fellow poet, Luna Branwen. What more could I wish for this coming Saturday at 11:30 amslt?
For me, who has been a sort of aloof- to- her -own -drum- beat poet  for the past four years, the invitation to read here, was a great honor, as Circe’s is the poet’s poetry place.

Circe's New Poet's Sanctuary

Circe’s New Poet’s Sanctuary

When Serene Bechir invited me, I didn’t pause a second, before I said “Yes!”
I quote her notes about this wonderful and magical place to hear some of the best poetry in SL.

“Up on the hill, overlooking New Brighton, strange things are going on!  In a grove of mushrooms, in front of a waterfall, people are gathering to listen to poetry being read in voice chat or sometimes on stream.

Originally the creation of SL music scene legend Circe Broom, this venue was specifically built for spoken word events and was first located on Laurel Arts Isle. When that sim closed a copy of the venue was preserved here at New Brighton thanks to the efforts of Leslye Writer, Stosh Quartz and land owner and builder Bernard Herzog.

Circe Broom passed away  on Nov. 30,  2012 but her legacy to poetry lives on at Circe’s New Poet’s  Sanctuary in New Brighton as those she encouraged continue bringing people together to appreciate and practice the art of spoken word.”

Here is the line-up for the whole day, and Luna and I will do between 30 and 45 minutes each to kick it off. I invite you all to come, find a mushroom, and enjoy our poetry. I will be streaming, and Luna in voice, both of us wearing our hearts on our sleeves and in our words:)
Oh and I wrote a little musical piece to my latest madness called “Sangfroid Sea” and will be performing it for the first time there.

Saturday Feb. 23rd lineup  (event is in voice chat unless otherwise noted)

   11:30amst -12:15pmalt Karima Hoisan  (on stream)
   12:15pmslt-1:pmslt Luna Branwen

     break

   4:00pm Grail Arnica
   5:00pm  Julie Juliesse
   6:00pm Rosedrop Rust

Here is your swift and direct transport to the Sanctuary: Circe’s New Poet’s Sanctuary
Hope to see you there, Saturday Feb. 23rd… I begin at exactly 11:30 amslt!… so come a little early to reserve a choice mushroom:)

Sangfroid Sea

Angry Sea by Malana Claringbould

Angry Sea by Malana Claringbould

Click on this .mp3 link, Sangfroid Sea at Circe’s.mp3 to hear me recite it live to original music at Circe’s New Poet’s Sanctuary Feb.23rd.

Sangfroid Sea

It Roars…a flash flood of blood
A stomp, two stomps,  blue-black clouds wrenching in a storm
A gale force of pounding, breakers breaking
sounding,
armies of horse- backed riders, no remorse

all the planes crash landing
barbed wire strung across the gate.
land mines like strings of firecrackers

kaboom ‘n pump kaboom

Whispers,
“Appease me with your willingness

plant flowers in the muddy puddle
make a trellis of blue morning glories
each barb will let a flower climb
each flower will soothe an angry mind
bend over backwards until you are a flag
that twists and dances to a brutal gale
then take a photo, make a memory of me,
uprooting trees and churned up seas.”

That wicked passion makes the blood collide
sucks up the Moon and drains the Tides..
I tried to pack,
I threw my suitcase to the waves,
but left my heart behind.
So hard to lay alone upon the shore

when it all keeps
pumping pumping pumping
so hard to smooth the jagged sharp
the broiling surf abyss,
cloud banks are robbed
and rolling in…

kaboom ‘n pump kaboom

Its almost like a dose of saintly sanity,
to feel this madness striking sparks,
and thoughts are flints and all begins to
make them strike upon a heart turned stone
upon a heart going cold,
the fire grows fed by the blood of Empires
that flammable respect that bursts and roars
Again!

Again!

kaboom ‘n pump kaboom

No tears tonight that turn an ocean silvery light
no little drops of perfect, in the messed-up harmony
Crashing o’er a trellis pedaling flowers to the sky
although withered still with life. It’s still with life!
only,
pounded, battered and stared down,
by a monstrous sangfroid sea.

Will You Be My Valentine?

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

I was asked to re-post my Valentine’s poem “Colored Hearts” as many said they didn’t see it at the bottom of the page about my live reading, and today IS really a nice day  to remember those multi-shades of love and passion we have in our lives.
I also share an .mp3 recording I did live (including my crash mid-way through) at DNA last Sunday sooooo please click on this hyperlink to listen to my poem recited to some very pretty Spanish music, by Johannes Linstead.
“Colored Hearts” Live at DNA.mp3
Enjoy!!
*I just realized I edited the recording so the rest of the reading (not just this poem) is on it… oops..but feel free to enjoy it all:):)

Colored Hearts

(for my Valentines)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hearts bouquet
I love You,
my colored hearts, for everything that You rarely show…
for all those doors that close when people walk too near
and You don’t feel  like trusting.
I love how You unlatch your locks, when You hear my voice…
that opening click and You whispering , “Come in”
All the colors inside Your chambers,
my mutant butterflies,
all that music, art and poetry
contained in the mural of Your lives.
Purple-hearted wounded one,
the deepest blue of true,
artistic passion, complexly red and brilliant multi shades of You,
Your confidence and recklessness to be just who You chose,
so much more than meets the eye,
so much more than any day job can construe.
And every heart has its passion its flower growing from a seed,
the need…
to find and make it work,
creating art from useless things, inventing poetry
capturing the tail of a jet stream,
or challenging those personal boundaries of speed.
Each has a hue that I cherish
each has a hue that I need.
You lace on shoes to cover miles,
pick up a brush, imagination and glue,
the teacher, coder, creator, filmmaker
edit, rewrite, redo,refine, re-fix…
speak in foreign languages to translate the matrix.
A bouquet of colored hearts,
gifted to me by the most generous giver
in the most ingenious way,
You make my words come alive,
You make my blood rise and ebb in tides…
You, You, You, You
my colored hearts.
Given by The Giver, who lays them across my road
one by one to find, pick up and hold…
Gathered  into this bouquet reflecting,
love and genius, the mercurial and ambiguous,
the long lasting steadfastness .
I place this treasure not on my table,
not on display
but way inside my own colored heart stretched wide,
to love and cherish
enjoy and share
the depth and the miracle
that defies defining who is the virtual You.
I just ask to bathe sometimes in each amazing beveled hue,
and contemplate the honor and the privilege
of knowing and of loving every single one of You.
Karima Performs Her Poetry @ DNA Sunday Feb. 10th 12 NoonSLT
DNA Sunday Feb. 10th !2Noon SLT
DNA Sunday Feb. 10th 12Noon SLT
It’s been almost a year since I’ve read at DNA, and I look forward to giving all who are present, 30 minutes of my poetry on stream, between two half-hour segments of open mic.
Klannex Northmead, an excellent and very well-loved poet in his own right, is the host for the event. Dyce Underwood and Armany Thursday, his long-time and gracious partner, owners of DNA, have provided this popular venue and time slot for these poetry events for many years now. I will read a very new one for the first time dedicated to the spirit of Valentine’s Day. If Sl has shown me one thing (and it has showed me many more than one) it is the possibility to love and work with so many talented and creative people here, each in his or her own way, allowing me to learn a bit more about love and all its variations and subtle hues.
I will print this one below for you and invite all of you, my loyal friends and readers, who come to so many of my readings (May you never get bored with me!) and to all new people who have never been to one (May you take this chance and come!) Please join me on Sunday at 12 noon slt. I look forward to entertaining you once again!
Here is your non-stop flight to the front door just click on the DNA link >>> DNA
And..Here is my poem for Valentine’s Day, sort of a Fusion of  The Arts & Hearts,
as DNA is too:)
Grand Opening Friday Feb.1 at 12:30pmslt
Grand Opening Friday Feb.1 at 12:30 amslt
I cordially invite you to a very special opening, of one of the most beautiful and artistically exciting sims I have seen in many years, Torell Nederland.
Janfolkert Alter and his lovely partner Ellenilli Lavendel are the creators and tasteful visionaries who have worked very hard alongside, imaginative and first class architects and virtual builders to see their dream realized. I don’t want to say too much, I just want to invite you all to come and experience this multilevel world, that goes all the way from being immeresed in a bucolic Van Gogh painting, or a village sidewalk cafe en Arles, to an ultra modern and sleek primary- colored level of galleries and Art installations, a Poetry House, and Rebeca Bashley’s  famous “The Tower”, to name just a few.
JanFolkert is also a poet, published in the Netherlands. He has his poems beautifully displayed, and with just a click they can be seen translated into English from the original Dutch, in the Poetry House. He has honored me, in the most generous of ways, by offering to display my poems alongside, and has given me an entire floor, with more than 20 of my poems lit and organized in a manner that makes them easy to read, and restful on the eye.
Blur…The Movie by Natascha Randt & Karima Hoisan
Do I always say that every movie I do with Natascha is my new favorite? Am I guilty of that “over-excitement” when we just finish a new project together and we are dancing in our creative after-glow? My only excuse is, that really, I do believe it is, and being so involved, it is hard to decide which is our “best film” as each one has been so very different from the other. If films are like giving birth, this one was our most difficult birth, maybe breach and almost two big for mom, but in the end, it was born joyfully. I am hoping Nat will make ample comments on her side, how she saw it all *smiles, but I can say for me personally, this was the film we talked more hours over before we even began it. Our brainstorming sessions went on for days and at any hour, because initially, there was a question that came up in some very good but heated comments as to what the poem was saying to begin with. See the original post and comments:
Click this link,
“Blur…The Poem”
So, what was it about..a girl? a cat?
Before we could begin deciding on scenes, we had to answer that question at least for ourselves.
I am going to refrain from saying too much more, and hope you will see the movie, and whatever comments it might inspire, share them with us here on my blog.
As we say on Nat’s YouTube Channel,
“It is a tale written out on Life’s highway. We focused on one story… and everyone knows some variation of it too. Thanks to all who helped out in the making of this, our most complicated film to date. Menubar Memorial’s RL highway footage, provided the speed we needed and is an invaluable part of the film.”
I want to extend a big thank-you to Menubar for this footage. Fate stepped in and just when he decided to go out one day and do some time-lapse filming of his town, not even knowing we were doing this project, he showed it to me one night, and the lights went off in my head. He offered it to Nat to use as much as she wanted, and really this moment of serendipity and good timing, helped us to see how we could tell our story in a dizzy and high-octane way.
A big thank- you to my co-star and co-owner of LINC Island where the movie was filmed on our “sky-lot,” Odracir Wrigglesworth. I hope he won’t be type-cast from now on and , girls, don’t be afraid to date him, he’s just a good actor… not a “real bad guy”
Thanks To RAG Randt who got me hitchhiking even though an avatar can’t hold out her thumb, he did a great work-around, and also to Dale Innis (our scripter in residence:) who came up with a way to blow that paper out of a moving car.
Last but not least, “Nat the Cat” frisky and adorable….ohh my, but what a sharp eye for angles, direction, editing, FX’s and set building. Always a joy to work with her, I hope there are many more opportunities to come.
So I present Blur, The Movie..Please see it in Fullscreen and in HD for the best quality and all comments are very appreciated. Enjoy!!
Karima Debuts @Black Dahlia ~ Thursday Jan. 24th ~ 1pm slt
Thursday at 1pmslt
As I have been saying, I just love a new venue..not new-new, but new for me as a poet, and on this coming Thursday at 1pmslt I will be reading for the first time at Black Dahlia.
Black Dahlia is owned and managed by Thor Monk and his very lovely partner Cailiee. Their Live Music venue hosts regularly some of SL’s most talented talent, starting with my good friend and amazing performer, Tukso Okey, to Jimmy Dukes, Sassy Nitely, Acousticenergy (James Olmos), Anek Fuchs, Joaquin Gustav, Jana Kyomoon, and Avantgarde Frequency, to name a few.
Thor decided to take a chance with me, his first live poetry event there, and I give him and his audience my word, I will give them my all at this debut.
I want to thank Padula Bing, Tukso’s manager and my friend,  for introducing us and making this possible, and I am hoping you will join me, this Thursday at 1pmslt.
Black Dahlia is  an open air, nature-themed environment that avoids any commercialization (you will not see shopping malls, ads etc ) Thor and Cailiee have told me their sim became a reality because of their love of music and the Arts. Two very good reasons to go and enjoy an hour of the spoken word, music and imagery!
Here is your zipline to the venue.
slurl for Black Dahlia
Look forward to seeing you all….
“Next Please…”
"..I invariably walk through don't you?
“..I invariably walk through… don’t you?
Please click on the .mp3 link below in bold to listen to this poem recited to my original musical composition. This is more of a performance piece, than a “read-it-to-yourself” poem.
Don’t even ask, where this thought came from…as I am not sure myself. I guess maybe from noticing some pretty open doors along the way, is my best theory. This is a little experiment in styles… and I hope you enjoy it.
“Next Please…”performed by Karima.mp3
Next Please…
When I see an open door along my moving timeline …
I invariably walk through… don’t you?
When I’m working on the assembly line of plastic plates, I don’t hesitate
to pick up that stray gold bar that somehow got through.
I remember from my school days what they would say,
Practice makes perfect..but I’m  just about ready to move on
Next please…
How many times can you love the wrong man,
and go through that lesson again?
Seriously… why are some lessons so hard to understand?
If I accept that the school of life is working me towards graduation
moving me along the course that will make my time worthwhile,
and that in repetition land is where I’m going to finally get it right…
I should see a little progress you would think
I know I Know…
Practice makes perfect, but you see I’m just about ready to move on.
Next please…
This crash -course feels like it’s trying to make me come to
my senses.
I’ve had this old lesson pounded into me until it’s glue,
so I want to refresh myself…and take a small sabbatical from my education.
I’m going to take a ferry ride in my free time, and watch the seagulls soar and dive.
I think that what I’m saying is, that I’m liking to be friends with you.
 I don’t want to make it more, or meet you down the hill, or in a hotel room.
I don’t need to know how much you earn, or if you like dogs, or even what you do.
Those little details are up to you, but I’ve opened up another book,
and it’s feeling sort of new,
I just want to be loving friends with you.
When I see an open door along my moving timeline …
I invariably walk through… don’t you?
When I’m working on the assembly line of plastic plates, I don’t hesitate
to pick up that stray gold bar that somehow got through.
I remember from my school days what they would say,
Practice makes perfect..but I’m  just about ready to move on
Next please…
Recap of The Poetry Reading on Creation’s For Parkinson’s Jan.9th
The forces behind Second life, had been acting up for days before I was scheduled to read on Wednesday the 9th. LL had somehow put a new variation on crashing and instead of entire sims going down from over crowding, the new thing was to see the selective wipe- out of maybe 1/2 of the avatars or 3/4 of the population at a gathering, on a sim at any given time. What is that all about? I was on one sim after my reading where they all swore they saw a “griefer” but I had already seen this happen on a few, so knew it wasn’t a big rash of “griefers” marauding over the grid for the new year.
Barbie had prepared a beautiful venue, but even the best laid plans can not compete with the fickle capriciousness of an unstable grid, which it seems to me SL has been suffering, for the last three or four days.
Poetry Park on Creations For Parkinson’s -photo by Natascha Randt
It was a  nice beginning, and looked like it would be a good attendance,( 33) as people began to stroll in, but by the 2nd poem, I heard that dreaded ding and looking up saw I had been logged out. You never knows if the whole sim went down or just you, so there is that moment of indecision, knowing that the stream is still up and alive, should I keep reading for probably nobody, or just stop and call it some very bad luck? I listened to my instincts, that said finally keep going, and good thing too, because about 6 or 7 strong willed avatars never crashed,and just watched everyone else around them , including myself, go down.
My main photographer, Nat, crashed too and a few times at that, so the pictures were only taken before the reading started. I will include a few and then if anyone would like to hear the recording of the reading I will include that below. Even with the crashing, and the chaos,(Maria couldn’t get the image board to respond when she came back) I think those who made it back in, really enjoyed it…and so did I. I want to thank all my loyal supporters (you really are SOOO loyal) I know many had to relog back in several times, and even with that, almost all the group stayed to the end.I also want to thank you for the generosity I witnessed through out my reading by all of you who donated so freely and willingly to the  cause of Parkinson’s Research. I would also like to correct an error on my previous post. 100% of the money raised in donations goes to Parkinson’s Research It made my heart swell…in the good way:)
All in all it was a challenging but also beautiful time, that we shared. Thank you all for being there, and for continuing to enjoy my poetry.
A beautiful setting on a beautiful sim. LL was the party-pooper
A beautiful setting on a beautiful sim. LL was the party-pooper
I tuned pale and the blood rushed from my head. Probably just about when LL was profiling me to be the next crash victim.
