You might wind up working for your son:)
I just did and I am so proud of how our first  collaborative video  turned out, I want to share it with you all, here on my blog.
That’s my son, Julian, speaking and he did the filming and editing. He asked me to do a voice over for him and I did!!

Julian, (among other things) is a Real Estate agent  and this year he is going out
on his own and has started  his own company called http://Tierravita.cr
Julian, who is bilingual was born and raised here in Costa Rica, so he knows the land and the people all his life
Here is my first “audition” and  now he says he might give me more….. Yay 🤩 Enjoy!

Eid Mubarak!!

After 30 days of fasting from before dawn to sunset, prayer and devotion, empathy and generosity, and acts of good deeds, comes 3 days of celebration we call Eid al Fitr (The Festival of Breaking The Fast) The new moon was sighted on the 30th day of Ramadan (today) and Eid begins at sunset.Tomorrow we drink coffee in the morning!!

In Islamic countries, like Jordan, people wear new clothes and go to the mosque, visit neighbors and family, and serve coffee and delicious chocolates to the visitors.
I will miss this here in Costa Rica…but I feel happy that tomorrow is Eid.
I felt many blessings in this last month of Ramadan. Alhamdulillah…I am very grateful!

To all muslims everywhere in the world, to my family in Jordan and Abu Dhabi and in the USA,  I wish you a very blessed and happy Eid… 🌙
Eid Mubarak!!

Good Luck!

Good Luck!

I see good luck in the strangest places
It’s been a solid thread
in my weave.
I’ve learned to expect it anywhere,
anytime
and nothing is too hard to believe….

sometimes in crystals
sometimes in the leaves of the palm
to have suitors at 80
and people still coming around….

Good luck is the pen name of Grace
When Grace is shy she signs “Good Luck”
When Grace is feeling playful
she calls it your lucky day
but it’s really Grace…
coming your way.

Grace is so completely undeserved…
Nothing you do or don’t, will bring her
or keep her away.
When she feels like it, she leaves you a gift
That’s how she works and Voilá…
It’s your lucky day!

* Footnote: The lines that begin “sometimes in crystals
sometimes in the leaves of the palm…” I woke up in the middle
of the night, repeating.. I wrote them down..I guess they wanted to be
this poem…( I do hope so 🙂

That Old VHS

That Old VHS
for Umahmad

It cost me $100 to convert that old VHS into a video file…
I had no idea what was on it
except the title promised, “Road to Petra.”

I hoped it would show me her face
just to see her face once more
would be more than worth it.

I had to wait a week and in that time
I fantasized all the wonderful things
I would see again twenty two years later.

How disappointing to find, there was only
a close up of a flicking horse tail,
rear legs chugging ahead, through the surreal gorge
now deemed a New Wonder of The World.

She sat to my left in the front seat
behind the driver
my two brothers sat behind us
and the camera, unknown to me
was capturing just what it could see
as I had no idea it was turned on..

Sometimes you’d see the ground, sometimes the walls
of this little opening…a narrow road
that Nature had  carved out of a mountain.

How disappointing, not a face captured along the road
as the cart bumped and swayed …
but what was hidden in this old tape
was her laughing voice again
as we conversed in Arabic

I held my breath.
There she was I heard her, alive again..,in 2004
and laughing and joking with me.

In one instant the bumping camera caught our feet
squished together on the floor of the cart
by God, is that not worth $100?
What price??? to share once more,
in our closeness and in her living laughter and joy?

Bird Buffet: A Home-Movie Production

Hi everyone,
well it certainly seems I’ve been stuck in  “Bird mode” in the last few posts. and this is yet
another look:)
Some of you will remember this time-lapse of my window-sill feeder, taken by my daughter Poett and other shots mixed with my very bizarre music and poem.

I hope you will give it a look and a Like:):)
This time I give you a  home movie shot on our phones, of our home bird feeder and property in San Isidro de General, Costa Rica. Some migratory birds, the little Tennessee Warbler, for example, come every year to our window-sill all the way from Canada.
Feed the Birds. Be Kind and Thoughtful to our feathered friends.

Original music,  poem and editing by me. Polished does not describe this video, more an amateur production , but made with love for our birds of Costa Rica.
NO AI Used! Human Made Only! Please watch in 4K
