This video, “The Deco-Pink & Bronze Dream” is the 4th installment of The Colored Dreams Series,  a narrated storybook format of an illustrated story I wrote back in 2011 and published on my blog. The inspiration for this story came from my impressions and fascination with DB Bailey’s sim Locus in SL,  an amazing surreal entire world of color, surprises and beauty. This breathtaking sim is now lost to us forever, but a few images you will see in this story were taken there, by me and by DB himself.
I am eternally grateful to him for the encouragement and influence to write this story. The Colored Dreams Series will be 6 separate YouTubes.

That Pioneer Spirit

                                        1976 Dominical Costa Rica

Talking about the old days,
as old people tend to do,
I remember Costa Rica in 1975
the year I stopped my engine at the beach,
and said to my 4 year old daughter, “We’re here”

An entire beach,
as far as the eye could see,
wild untamed, uncivilized and majestic.
I knew I had finally arrived to the spot
that it would be my home for the rest of my life.

Everything was new and primitive and exciting,
No electricity , no running water,
unless you brought your own via gravity from the nearest creek.
We boiled our beans twice a day on wood stoves.
made fresh rice daily and maybe an egg was laid or a fish was caught.

A trip to the nearest town was a sojourn.
Although only 25 miles away, it took
hours and hours, to traverse the harrowing roads,
the mudslides,  the rockslides, the bus breaking down.
Passengers smoking with the windows open, chickens clucking.

We buried our own dead, cured our own sick
no doctors, no  banks, gas stations or  supermarkets
One small general store sold dry good supplies
and once a month we went to town to bring in the rest.

We were a population of 63 adults; I did the census on horseback.
We walked or we rode horses, only 3 cars in town
We watched the sunset, the whole community
sitting on rocks watching that sun descend then sizzle in the sea.
For us it was the greatest show on earth.

We helped each other, laughed together, cried at funerals,
birthed our calves, and had the blessing to live so remotely,
We counted on each, so united in community.
That pioneer spirit was in us all, it showed in our eyes,
and it showed in our lives.

Chance Encounter

Chance Encounter

So the first thought in my mind

when I walked through the door was…

“Wow what are you doing here?”

“What are you doing without your scarf on?”

“What are you doing without yours? she said

and we laughed as if cued by the director.

We laughed and she handed me her fortune cookie

“Let’s see how our luck is today, she said

teasingly, impishly,

her eyes giggling with laughter,

tears in the corners.

“You know I’m dead.” she said matter-of-factly.

“Of course I do,” I sighed remembering,

“I held your hand when you took

your last breath.”

“So what are you doing here then?

I asked again, wondering now if I were dreaming.

Your friend prompted me to take shape

The funny thing was, he didn’t really want a face

like mine; he was trying for something else.

“Prompted you?” I asked curious to know what she meant.

“Yes, AI Art, it’s the latest thing for us who passed over.”

“It’s a door to be seen once more”

“Wow, I had no idea!! How fascinating!”

But, if we don’t get framed, we will fade back quickly.

“Could I just hug you?

Why don’t you just frame me

and take me home and have me forever?

And I did.

The Tides

The Tides

The tide is coming in and I smell that sweet hope upon the wind.
When it raked the shores, so violently, while going out to sea,
I felt such loss; the tide swept us up and carried away a part of me.
I was stranded, hopeless, floating, in the darkness holding my breath
All I could see were the drowning around me and waited for certain death.

But today I felt the tug of the ocean pulling us back from where we had come.
The sky glowed red, tides changed direction, just as the sun was going to set.
When the clouds parted, those with eyes saw something they would never forget.
The tides, grabbed on to those who had lost hope and pulled us back once more,
I thanked those benevolent tides of reason and compassion that we were returned to shore.

And there were celebrations all day and night when all of us stood safely on land.
We kissed the ground, so happy to be saved, to have found our way back home again.
We all knew if the tides had not shifted, there would be no rejoicing anywhere today,
Instead we would be burying our dead, wailing and mourning and digging our graves.

I, Poet

I, Poet

I can not think of anything new to say
so I sit down to read, over the years what I used to say
Sometimes I surprise myself with my perceptions…
Many times I laugh at myself for my delusions…
Most times I cradle myself for my innocence.

Poets can be so wise, so wrong and so naive.

If I had the chance to write it over again, would I?
Or would I leave what is written, as written remains?
Would I tweak, or alter or cosmetically color it prettier?
Or blow it to dust, erase it existed, so as not to feel ashamed?

The poet does have a responsibility for what is signed with their name.

Sometimes I feel I have said everything I wanted to say.
Many times I feel I withhold things I really would like to say.
Most times I feel only a few really understand what I try to say.
There’re times I choose the coward’s trick of parable and metaphor,
and hope those who read me, hold the key to open innuendo’s door.

Today, I bathe in the river source, and try to catch the flow once more.
