Paths through virtuality

I am sharing this very nice post by Dale Innis on his weblog today Saturday April 27th, about well.. virtual paths that lead us to sharing our creative talents..and a nice little part about my Colored Dreams and The Two series, that seems like a thousand years ago, but really is going on two. Enjoy!

daleinnis's avatarDale Innis's Weblog

So a bag-zillion years ago I weblogged (probably more than once) about an interconnected random adventure in SL, where a friend and I landed in some cool place after skydiving, looked up the picks of the creator of some neat object there, went to their store or something, and so on through various hours worth of fun randomness.

It’s been too long since I went nude skydiving 🙂 but I still have these kinda small adventures all the time, I just don’t weblogify about them as much, because I don’t weblogify about anything as much, because I am lazy person.

But here’s one!

As extremely long-time readers will know, one of my very early living places in SL was a little shack on the PIER sim (which I found in turn from making friends with a bartender at The Elbow Room, which stretches the story back just about to my…

Speakeasy Four Bridges Project

Four Bridges Speakeasy

Always love a first time!
First times can be a little scary, but they can also be exciting and Red and I (talkwithmarie) activist, poet and host of this poetry get-together, have been talking about this for sometime, and the stars finally aligned  for me to read there this coming Sunday at:
12:00pm slt.
I will do a shorter 30 minute reading, so please come early.
It will include some of my latest poems and musical compositions that I use for my backtracks, as well as reciting live over carefully selected music from my favorite playlists, all on stream.
Red, as I said above, is a busy, activist, both Rl and Sl who works with various nonprofits, including her own, The GIRLS Project. She produces alternative media (Talk!with Marie, Girl TV and special segments) through a local community television station but also is a media critic. Her shows focus on social issues/events
As Red invites in her profile:
“The Four Bridges SpeakEasy is a gathering place for poets, artists, activists, and dreamers. Bring your guitars and your words and come discuss, enjoy and be.”

Join Red and friends, Sundays@11 am slt for open mic poetry with some amazing poets/writers in sl. Bring your own poems or those of your favorite writers to read. You can read any genre or simply listen and enjoy the relaxing setting.
Can’t wait to see you:”)

This will be one of my final readings, before I take a break for a few months, so if you enjoy what I do with my poetry and my music on stream, please join me Sunday at 12noon (or come early and read a poem or two on open mic)
As always I look forward to your presence which truly does give me moral support for my poetry, and spend a relaxing time on a very well-established and respected Sim

For Those Worthy Of It…

respect

left hanging by its deeds

For Those Worthy Of It…
for mia

Earned and secured
not to be taken carelessly
not to be joked about loosely
gained in slow motion
lost in a heart-beat
a lover’s debt to the other paid.

Remembered, cherished
served the first piece
offered the first bite
first to stand up
last to secure all doors at night.

Promises are always paid
and failure to, explained.
Wisdom and position recognized
guidance with compassion
strictness with its tenderness
no hashed over diggings- up of blame.

White-haired sage is owed it
young survivor knows it
culture, passages, and life
will tell you who receives it
contrarily, who bestows it.

Good to give and get it,
never to be overlooked
honored in the subtle ways
not ever made to wonder or to wait.
Respect; the admirer’s wordless garland
left hanging by its deeds, upon a worthy’ s gate.

It’s Like This…

tree painting cloud blowing wind landscape large by mattsart

It’s Like This
for a poet

The first line
is like a pearl pressed in your hand
by a total stranger.
Just take it.
Say, ” Thank you.”

The ones after that
you can almost own,
bend and hold
but still
they aren’t yours.

After some stanzas
the muse takes your hand
you promenade, trees bowing
on the boulevard;
your words trail behind.

The sun is going down
It’s all so smooth.
The muse whispers, “Stop”
and if you’re listening,
you sign your name.

Filtered

Filtered

Filtered,
because otherwise
we would all o.d. on Life.
Better to latch the dirt to our eyes
the rose tints.
I know the poets;
they would be screaming first.
Keep it filtered, alkaline
Don’t put names and innocent smiles
on the numbers.
Graph it, stack them in mass graves,
nameless
memorial-free
that’s much easier
on our kind…
safer.

Keep it streaming,
take it to the limits,
drop it out to sea.
Just let a few things close to home
pass through our sieve
to pop up on our screens.
Let’s forget the rest,
our dark animal howls,
our gnashing teeth that maim,
something we almost thought we’d seen
but now it’s gone
and there’s a silly tweet,
to pull us away,
twenty new things we have to do,
so we can start to feel safe-guarded
diffused.
Leave the rest to blow away like leaves
sounds with no meaning
bombs that fall
in places with low ratings..
It’s my hope to never watch that show
anywhere again.

If I start to peek
and see sweet boys
holding posters for peace,
I will never be able to eat,
forgive my bloody human race
or sleep.

Hoisan Family Monument LINC Island SL

Hoisan Family Monument LINC Island SL

My father died on April 18th, when I was twelve years old. This is the first poem I have ever written about that, and it is more than a few decades later. Every April since, I have felt like I might write something…and then I never do. It was time.
What does this have to do with SL? On my sim, LINC Island, I have made a family memorial and this is what is engraved on my father’s side. Through the wonders of our virtual world, I can lay flowers on his grave, even though I am thousands of miles away from where he is buried, and this year I will also place this poem.
Please take the time to click on the .mp3 link entitled April 18th by Karima Hoisan.mp3.
I composed the music for this too. Maybe enjoy is not the right word, but I hope you can feel this one, and I am sure some might even relate.

April 18th by Karima Hoisan.mp3

You once whispered this to me,
“We will have eternity,
so dry your tears,
and while you’re waiting,

  live your life my daughter,
then come and talk to me.”

So much time has run behind,
my questions I had saved to ask
are not the ones, I had that day, when I was twelve
and you were lowered down into the ground.

But then you came to me in dreams,
You said, “Don’t touch me, I’m not yet real.”
I hover here because you are so young
and I am sorry I could not stay to see you grow.

So some days, I feel the bleak is calling out,
I feel tired of it all, and I miss you as if you’d died last night,
and eternity seems a long way off, an endless wait
and in some ways, I’m still that little bud too fragile.

Life has showered me with wild flowers
and  sometimes bathed my hopes in hopeless rain.
An adult, I can still see the road that brought me here,
so I write new questions I would like to ask you on that day.

Does a girl ever grow up, if her father is not there to see?
Is she not a tree in the forest of first love’s loss, falling and no one hears her?
and history shifts to what it was not going to be
and really, as I get older, it’s getting harder for me to wait to see you.

I try not to cry, when someone stands in front of me and says your name.
I know that it’s approaching, that time, when once again I’ll be your little girl.
I want to tell you my mistakes, what made me laugh and why I was still crying.
To sit upon your lap and then, Oh Daddy!
all the time in the world is what you promised me.

Wired and Happy – Revisited

"Upload complete you alien freaks!!"

“Upload complete you Alien Freaks!!”  Artist: Sigfred Rodenberger

OK..I know..this is pretty out there, but when I went to the Criss Museum back in 2011 to see Sigfred Rodenberger’s show, I was repulsed and fascinated at the same time by this drawing. I put it up in my gallery, where I didn’t really look at it again until a few weeks later. All of  sudden crazy images, and words came flying out of it and spilled all over my paper..I am not sure I picked them all up * smiles, but hope you can make some sense out of it, and just feel a bit crazy too. Two years later, I wrote this music track and I think through the wonders of voice morphing (which I have yet to try) I could do this one live too at a reading someday. Anyway Here it is re-dished up two years later with a new beat (my own) and still as scattered and wired as ever. For those of you who are new to my blog, please don’t judge me by just this one 🙂 Click on the .mp3 link below to hear me recite, come on don’t be lazy…just give it a click *winks

and I’m howling too.

I got 5 beats going a.t.m.-euro tecno- tecno ecno –
ethno chill -groove and discoverable-
From tip to toes I’m wired to capture every nuance of my dance.
I can play it back when I close my eyes
boogie with myself ‘n be my own romance.
I’m wired and happy about it-
You getting it? I’m wired and happy about it!

My Bluetooth is beeping, so just excuse me-
I have 24 encrypted files that are downloading you see-

The Possessive

I am

Yes, I am The Possessive

The Possessive
mia

Because you are so many different things
I can share some of you
with another few…
I can learn to return
to the law of the playground,
and break my cookie in three,

But you must know that some things
can’t be shared
or broken into parts.
A kaleidoscope looks enchanting
but it’s really broken glass
some details casually shared,
will break
and ink gets blurred;
it all gets smeared
Oh this is not a looking glass
it’s real and we could be the smashed.

Yes I am the possessive,
but my obsession
travels light,
a ballet dancer on point spinning like
a lighthouse in your night
All I want to do is fall in deep.
I am that bit inside that calls to you
from down a tunnel in your dreams.
I see what’s fallen to the bottom,
and bring it up for us to play and see.
I coax and order, I stomp and croon
Looking down upon your crown
Is where I feel I’m me.

A script that’s being written
and the ink
is never dry,
a courageous choice,
a foolish step,
I am all of that.
So I will share some parts of you
with the worthy and the true,
I will be a generous giver,
humble teacher, flowing river,
but I will be a storm for disrespect
the coldest wind that blows along your shore.

Your protector and possessor,
is love not a crazy state?
It’s full of prancing folly picking up its’ feet
and makes us slaves and owners
and who knows who is in charge?
It’s hard to rip out a brand new rib,
that will be served on someone else’s plate.
Yet love, will makes us offer- up and donate.

I am the possessive, like a song that takes you over
I’m a subtle jail of memories, the door wide open.

Karima Joins SL Music Races for a Cure-Art Faire and Auction Benefitting RFL in SL- Sat. April 6th 12pm slt

The Conservatory for The Art Faire at Ce Soir Arts

Just a note in a symphony, a poet in solidarity, I will perform as part of the most amazing Relay for Life SL Team ever, “SL Music Races for A Cure” headed and directed by our hard working, music lover and supporter and baton-tapping Director, Still Braveheart. Still has worked night and day for months organizing all her artistically inclined volunteers, for the sole purpose of raising funds for RFL in SL. I am honored that I could join this illustrious group of performers and give an hour to the cause, that as many know, is very dear and near to my heart, see “My Gliding Beauty 1971-2012”
Mireille and Aeon Jenevive Woodward, owners of Ce Soir Arts, one of my very favorite venues where I perform, have created a beautiful location where live musicians and poets will be performing, at their Conservatory while a wonderful Silent Art Auction is going on. Thank you Mireille and Aeon for your hard work and dedication to this team.

A special venue for the occasion at Ce Soir Arts

I will perform this Saturday, April 6th, at 12 noon and I cordially invite you all to come, and give generously to this worthy cause. All of us have been touched by the heartbreak of cancer in some way or another…Let’s Cure it!!
There will be a Silent Art Auction you can bid on, and Russel Eponym, one of the best loved and popular poets will perform after me at 1:30pm. All proceeds, tips and donations will go to RFL.
I hope to see you all there this Saturday at 12 noon slt.
