When Real Life Echoes Second Life

Usually it is the other way around, as we in virtual worlds, build our worlds inside from our memories and experiences of the world we live in outside. I hope that makes sense:)
It is a rare treat to see that get turned around, and all of a sudden “normal Real Life” is echoing and mirroring”unreal Second Life”
This striking and evocative snow sculpture, was created by someone who had gone to my reading last Saturday in Second Life, and was inspired, after a massive snowfall, to recreate it in his front yard. It even has a name (one I did not choose of course)
It is simply called, “Karima, the Snow Poet and Her Adoring Fans.”

ReCap of The Tom Waits Show and Reading @ Kari’s Bar and Dance

This was a first for me. It was the first time I had ever read in my own club in New Toulouse, and combined a reading with a selected DJ session (100% Tom Waits) Thanks to Gamma and Dale I have pictures to share with all….oh and here is the recording for those of you who couldn’t make it. There were 36+ at the reading and 42 attended in all. I had a great time, and I think all who came did too. Definitely will do this again….in a few more months! Pictures below…

Satin Doll Solo

Sometimes I just don’t see you...

Satin doll…smoke-filled room, eyes all over you…
feather boas, crowded ashtrays, hard wood stools and plumes,
dark brick walls behind the bar, where the trash turns smoky blue;
couples fumble vertically, up against the wall
pressing their passion under the moon’s bewitching hue.

Maybe a cello can inspire your sunrise, walking down the street
you hear the master, and his notes transport you inside, it’s so deep,
but oh my satin doll, you are so much more than that to me,
a guitar solo that cries and it makes me sigh when I can’t find you.
It makes me cry and I sing the Blues..in my lonely Club of Blues

Your perfect loving hands made just to offer and to give,
high high heels, the turn of  phrase, your look that comes up to meet my eyes..
Speak to me my satinized wrapped fantasy, oh I know you so well. I know you so well.
You are no stranger no usurper, no pretender, no come lately…
and you are only mine.

Sometimes I just don’t see you when I open up our door.
I hear, oh I hear you calling me in the passion of a riff
in that whine, in that wailing slide.

The Pale

I want to call the dead back to life.
In the hugeness of data…somewhere they must be found,
And attract all of those souls by changing energy
Reassembling them in my dreams…in my dreams.

I want to shake the living that wear-out their shrouds
Years before they’re needed; who walk so sadly through the night
More dead than alive. When I watch them, I know love kills as well as revives.
I will put them back together, in my dreams…in my dreams.

I don’t have time for those lectures and really neither do they.
Time, when you are waiting, makes a minute seem a day.
What power do we have to change the currents anyway?
It’s all death, those still walking and those who’ve been laid away.

I wish that hope came in green bottles, and you would drink with me
We could promenade the midnights until you believed;
That around a corner, instead of tears, or a tomb, was your better destiny
and I would be the witness that love found you, in my dreams…in my dreams.

The dead can walk and talk and haunt, we all know some who do.
They come to leave us messages and pound to get in before the sun is up.
We cry for them and with them, and drink their hopeless cup,

Come See It Before it Ends! Last day January 31st

I know. I know…I talk a lot about Natascha Randt in my blog! Usually it is because we have just made another movie together, but sometimes, like today, it’s just to invite you to share in her wonderful creative gift and her collector’s passion in Second Life.
I wrote a post way back when (digs it up from 2012) “Just Say Yes! pt2”  about Nat being a total “Transportation Queen,” and since then, I am sure she has doubled her collection of boats, planes, land vehicles, helicopters, you name it. If it moves, Nat has it.
Sooo, when The Linden Endowment for The Arts (LEA) was looking for a worthy recipient of a full sim for a month, Nat was chosen, and she wasted no time setting up her amazing exhibition. I have decided to not include the videos or photos, Nat has been making about it, to entice you to come personally and see her beautifully laid out and unique collection of transport. Her first love is aviation, and her airport has a tower to explore, and so many planes and helicopters, it will make your head spin. She dedicated the whole show to her good friend and fellow aviator, Walt Faulds, who passed away last year.
It is a stunning tribute both to him and to SL Aviation, the designers and builders of things we fly and float and ride. There is a temp rez where you can rez your own vehicle and take a spin over the drawbridge, down the highway,or take off on the runway.

Like Old Times….But Even Better!! Kari’s Bar and Dance Reopens!

Friday January 17th, my little club, Kari’s Bar and Dance, had its reopening..and my oh my what a reopening it was!! I am going to let the video and pictures speak for themselves.
Thank you Nat and Dale for having the energy (and graphics) to take pictures!
There were 59 avatars grooving to the amazing Tukso Okey, who so generously kept going and going (another 40 minutes) even after time was up. Tukso was  totally inspired and inspiring and it was one of those new times, that can remind you of the good old ones:)

If memory serves me well, it was the very same musical genius, Tukso Okey, who played the last Live show at my bar in March of 2010, Sooo……it’s very fitting that he will be the first to play for the reopening on Friday, January 17th, 9pmslt.
Kari’s Bar and Dance reopens in the pre-Mardi Gras mood, and I cordially invite you all to join us and have some fun getting into theme too. Kari’s is loosely set in the 1920’s-30s of  New Orleans. I say loosely, because the music of Tom Waits can be heard blaring from the porches. There are no RP police in New Toulouse, so you can come as you are, but if you feel in the mood, dress up in style and enjoy an hour of the amazing Tukso Okey, “Groove Master” Exceptional, and get in the groove with us all.

Scottius! The One and Only Otter in My Life

I admit it! I love an otter..I love his talent, his humor, his loyalty, creativity, his amazing art and his great wardrobe. That is why I was so pleased to see the latest Drax File was dedicated to him, the one and only Scottius Polke (Scott Rolfe )
My Sim is filled with his Art,my years since 2008, filled with such great memories of times we shared, and my own poetry has been many times inspired by him or his works. One time in particular, his installation, “The Docks” moved me so, I stayed paralyzed in a rocking chair there for maybe six hours,while a poem was being born about it. In the video there are a few pictures I took and some snips of the words of the poem, below them as captions. For those interested in reading the whole poem click here: “The Docks”

It was time that this very special otter was honored with such a video!
Drax did a great job, and Scottius shone in both lives:) Blows a kiss to her fave otter…
