Dialing Out To The Cosmos

Harmony

Harmony by Dale Innis on Midjourney

Remember those rotary phones
that got thrown away when cellulars
were born?
How your finger hooked the ring
and with a bit of effort
dragged it all the way
as far as it could
letting you know,
Now you must let go…?

The satisfying muted number-clicks
then do it again
six more times
until all seven numbers were
dragged around
and you waited
and you listened.

Dialing out to the Cosmos
the wrong number
that could change your Life.
Dialing Out to the Cosmos
waiting to get those tests back
that said you were a winner
that you had bought more time.
That you were healthy in your prime.

The lucky chosen Rotary Dialer
every phone call was a direct connect.
No messaging“Are you free?”
Ring ring ring and you’d pick up
Stay there anchored to the phone table
or the closest chair, on a springy short cord
If you were busy,  they’d know it
they’d hear
the rhythmic buzzing of a bee.

 Dialing out to the Cosmos
“Please can someone help me?”
There is an emergency, a burglar, a house on fire,
Or, “Let’s call the neighbors and hang up.”
“Let’s call the boy next door,
listen to him say hello and hang up.”
Let’s sit all day in the same spot
look through the extra-thick phone book
and pick some random people to call.

Our index fingers have callouses
We take turns dragging that dial around
“Hello Cosmos, what’s the meaning of Life?”
Who made the first star shine,
the first prank call?
Dialing until our fingers are numb,
Why? What? How? Who? and……
Is there anyone out there?

Fly To Me

Dark Spirit

Dark Spirit by Dale Innis with Midjourney

Please Click Play to hear me Recite it to the music”We Were There” Woolfy VS Projections

Fly to me!

If there is one thing I understand
it’s you.
We are not as different as you first thought
What makes you laugh, makes me roll my eyes
Because, I’ve seen too much, and you know
that’s true.

There is a cold cold heat, my dark spirit seeks
I find it when I open my eyes and feel your heart beat

You always understood,
the variance between the negative
and the gloriously elegant,
the seldom comes along,
the totally different.
You know in which category you can find me,
You hear my call like a pleading cello
and you take wing

Crows with shiny blue plumes,
that dress in feathered tutus
how they please me.
You, tracing my face with a fallen feather
Ah, how you tease me.

There is a cold cold heat, my dark spirit seeks
I find it when I open my eyes and feel your heart beat

And you are correct I am a Queen in my Time
I hope you know you are my chosen,
and that I am not unkind.
The first moment I saw your face,
heard your voice, watched you walk away
I knew that you would ask to be mine

So I’ve given you wings
to return when I call
I’ve planted your passion for me
like a tree that grows tall…
from your toes…
to your uncommon fantasies.

Everything about you
is so intriguing
Everything about me,
you find so appealing.
I promise to leave your cage door
open to capricious winds
and if you choose to fly away
I have no doubt
that you will also choose
to fly back again.

There is a cold cold heat, my dark spirit seeks
I find it when I open my eyes and feel your heart beat

Fly to me!

Bed of Roses

Bed of Roses

Image-Bed of Roses by Dale Innis

Bed of Roses

It’s sad, that I was not the one to feel the love
you promised and proclaimed.
There was too much mystery swirling around you.
and in the end there was too much pain.
On a night I had dreamed about,
since I was was only thirteen,
who really knew then, what our future held,
when you whispered, seductively, “My Queen”

I had been in love with you,
since love started to make sense to me.
I saw you everywhere and you conquered
my thoughts, my dreams and fantasies.
Everyone who saw you, only saw you as a heartache,
not as a love forever…
You were a treacherous rogue; although many had cried, to your lies,
I knew deep down inside, I could do it better

So that is why, on our wedding night,
I had prepared for us a bed of fresh cut roses.
The satin sheets, a few peaches and cream
and the rest, flowering crimson roses,
I perfumed and oiled my hair with the essence
of flowers from rivers and springs;
roses brushed our faces, and touched our thighs
while I, supine, about to bloom, tumbled over the springs.

You knew I would never join you in bed
unless we had said our vows, exchanged our rings.
You made me the happiest girl who had ever dreamed;
we were so beautiful together, a bronzed pair of figurines.
But then I realized we were not together at all,
you were a single actor on a stage where I had shone my shame.
The rose thorns pierced my flesh, my hope, my heart.
When in your heat of passion, you called out someone else’s name.

Even though on our wedding night,
I had prepared for us a bed of fresh cut roses.
The satin sheets, a few peaches and cream
and the rest, flowering crimson roses,
I perfumed and oiled my hair with the essence
of flowers from rivers and springs;
roses brushed our faces, and touched our thighs
while I, supine, about to bloom, tumbled over the springs.

Paid The Piper

WhatsApp Image 2022-12-06 at 6.57.40 PM

“Dancing into a Second Chance” by Dale Innis

A concertina in the back seats of my mind
passion and grace, the awkward silent space
all has passed now in the fog of forgetting
all becomes a soup of pureed rotting fruit
and yet, I’d raise my hand, to start over again.

Wouldn’t you?

What I didn’t learn when you were by my side,
I’d know with the next one in line; I’d do it just fine,
and the next, a bit better and so on and so on.
Tears and poems, broken hearts, pieces of eight
I paid the piper to dance all night, because it felt right.

Wouldn’t you?

Looping the loop in Life’s way back- play back machine,
My second chance, will be focused on compassion & romance.
This time around, a body is not needed, I’m like a good dream,
I will just be a whirling light, a laugh and tender touch in the night.
I’d be the voice that whispers I love you, and you’d know it was true…

Wouldn’t you?

Child of a Flower-Child

WhatsApp Image 2022-11-26 at 6.03.32 PM

                                             Trippin’ by Dale Innis

I was the child of a flower child
The Age of Aquarius
was awaited like Christmas.
I was named after rainbows
stained glass and rhyming dreams.
I had two parents and
I had twenty Aunts who dressed as fairies
& they and my Uncles had open third eyes.
All their kids were a pile of siblings,
We were one big family, for a long long while.
One pair of going- to- town -shoes
and mostly I went barefoot,
shirtless at six, unconsciously innocent
and I was a believer..of everything magical
everything bright and pleasing, and
every single story my daddy told
I knew because I knew; they were 100% true.
Wind-chimes were my lullabies,
I read book after book by candlelight
and even though sometimes I cried,
when bad things happened
like when my bunny C-Sharp died,
I still looked up to the zillion stars
lighting up the whole wide sky,
and said out loud, like I was taught
“Thank you for this day.
How good it is, to be alive”

Costa Rica in The World Cup Qatar 2022__”We Are The Dreamers”

costa

This is our (Costa Rica’s) beloved National team.
On Wednesday, we made history (the bad kind) by being beaten by Spain 7 to 0.
Our country couldn’t believe it and yet it was true. That was Wednesday but…..
Tomorrow at 4:am in the morning, I promise you, 98% of all households will be up
watching our match against Japan. Because “We are the Dreamers,” as Jung Kook sings;
we can’t abandon our country or the hope that tomorrow will be a better score, favorable to us, and if we win, oh my goodness, this little country will cause  an earthquake that will be felt all over the Americas:)
Please play this fantastic song for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. It captures the essence, of the World Cup, all the world playing against each other, with dreams and most importantly respect for each other.
Tomorrow at 4am, GO Costa Rica!..Vamos Muchachos!
Your country will be cheering you on!!
Enjoy!

We’ll never give up, we’ll keep challenging and overcoming all difficulties
And sing with love

[Chorus]
Look who we are, we are the dreamers
We make it happen, ’cause we believe it
Look who we are, we are the dreamers
We make it happen ’cause we can see it

[Post-Chorus]

Respect, oh, yeah
Here’s to the ones, that can imagine
Respect, oh, yeah

A+ in Love

<<*>>

When I get it right, it makes me cry…
Tears flow, I like to watch them fall.
The mountains race backwards in the foggy bus window
My shiny face reflecting in the semi-curtained pane

“Who could love like you are asked?””
“Only a fool with a vast expanse of heart.”
“Who could think you would forgive so easily?”
“Only the One who blows apart the pieces.”

I now know how to love the unlovable
I kill some demons with just the touch of warmth.
Embrace the miraculous leper before the bus rolls away,
Then, across an ocean, depression lifts, and a man rises.

Each and every time I get it right, I cry…
So much euphoria and no sadness on my cheeks.
Closer comes the Teacher, tapping me so gently.
“This lesson is now learned. You may close your book”

For My Family in Jordan

Harsh lands bring soft embraces,
Here we all drink from one cup.
Before we put our share to our mouths,
We make sure there is enough.

Oven winds bake a glaze on my face,
While dry eyes squint to the sky.
Two leathered hands sift Martian sands,
I can’t pull away yet, and I know why.

Destiny’s prisoner, I smile and submit,
While drying out my soul is refreshed.
The cool realization; I am where I should be
Makes me know I am doubly blessed.

I choose to stay, in an open doorway,
Trembling ~ indecisive, but I don’t leave.
Feels like a premonition or a déjà vu,
On impulse I cancel my flight of reprieve.

Harsh lands bring soft embraces,
Here we all drink from one cup.
Before we put our share to our mouths,
We make sure there is enough.

Written in Stone

wordpress1

Written in Stone

I never could understand the attraction
we found ourselves in
like being reduced to tiny metal shavings,
and something written in stone was the magnet
sweeping us both off our feet, into the street.

That’s a long time ago,
and memory plays tricks on what was real
but I know the first time I saw you
in that market and you saw me
lights flashed on the switchboard of destiny.

“Your call is ready now, shall I ring you through?”
“You’ve received a call…they are waiting for you.”

But we only resorted to eyes and hidden smiles,
from a distance a bit too far, for you to see,
that I was looking too.
Ground spices surrounding us, a perfume we both wore
but you hennaed your hands, while my wrists jingled in gold,
and we noticed those details as we walked out the door;
the attraction was doing its thing now,
not heeding the rules of astronomy, no logic, 0 possibilities,
Just simple fate with twists up ahead,
pulling us into the spotlight and when we looked up
our bags in our hands, we were walking…
in the same direction…
and our eyes kept smiling…and smiling

Strange Dream

sleeping-woman-dark-water-river-15497824 2

Please click play to listen to my spoken word version, recited to David Darling’s “Sweet River”

Strange Dream

It was a crazy day on the river of my morning dreams
fluffed up cumulus clouds, bouncing on a peach colored sky.
A soprano voice on shore sang out a message up ahead,
“Sometimes I just want to give-up but instead I give back, it said.”

and I thought,
“Such a strange dream
Whatever could it mean?”

The parakeets, like a flock of lunatics in a mad chorus giggling
beat the contrary airwaves frantically with their small wings, singing,
Screaming as one, they choose a course right over my head
“Sometimes I just want to give-up but instead I give back,” they said

and I thought,
“Such a strange dream
Whatever could it mean?”

Bells and glass wind chimes sounding in the building breeze
Their sweet harmonic notes growing louder as I floated closer
This surprise symphony spoke in transcendence to me, as it spread,
“Sometimes I just want to give-up but instead I give back, it said.”

and I thought,
“Such a strange dream
Whatever could it mean?”

I then awoke with a phone call for help, “ I need you! Please come!”
I dropped everything and went and listened and hugged her a lot
She cried in my arms saying, “it’s hopeless and just all too much.”
When I told her my dream; she was soothed by my voice and my touch.

and she said,
“Such a strange dream
Whatever could it mean?”
