This Too Shall Pass….

fullsize
This too shall pass.
Find comfort and sadness here.
The pain will go away…become just a distant memory;
but joy also obeys, pushing cherished memories out to sea on waves
Not in control as we’d like to be because…

This too shall pass…

Don’t fear. The bad times are not forever.
All the scenery’s changing…bad to good, good to bad.
So what was once so vital will shrivel like an autumn leaf.
Conquer fear; place your foot upon it; be the victor
But take a picture because…

this too shall pass….
this too shall pass

Don’t we wish we could make this train
stop at just our stations?
The ones with holy moments on their signs?
Live the good times, the miraculous, love’s surprises,
instead of this local, that also stops at pain, fear and nightmares…?
“Hurry up, let’s get going,”
We close our eyes as we leave it behind.
“Oh, let’s stay here, I love it here!”…and then the grinding of the gears…
We’re moving- moving -moving on

This too shall pass.

Photos and a Recording from Aux Bains du Paradis

Well the reading I did yesterday was really fun, and I have Natascha Randt to thank for taking some amazingly beautiful pictures at the venue while I was reading. I want to share them all, along with a recording I made of the event. If any of you wanted to come, but couldn’t, just click this link to download and hear the whole hour:) Recording of Reading at Aux Bains Du Paradis
Once again thank you to Kim(kimhanh) for the beautiful Arab-style venue, and to Rob Barber for inviting me to read. It was a magical scenario and I want to thank everyone who supported me by being there.

Karima Hoisan Reading at Aux Bains du Paradis- Sat.- July 8th-12 noonSlt

00Poetry by Karima.jpg

I would like to invite my readers and friends who enjoy my poetry, to a special reading
this Saturday, July 8th at 12pm SLT in Second Life.
I have been invited by the creator of the Baths, Kim (kimhanh) and Sir Rob Barber
See post: Rob Steenhorst’s Art Book-Sporting Life
to read there this Saturday.  This is an adult sim, but Kim has created a lovely
Arab-style living-room setting for my reading, and I am really looking forward
to performing my poetry on stream, with musical accompaniment, at this new venue
with a new audience. I am told that before my reading there will be a showing of the Machinima, Sea Swell by Iono Allen, A short film about the art of Rob Steenhorst, in which I read  my poem ,”Sea Swell,”  inspired by a painting of the same name, by the artist.
After the reading, the baths will be open for bathing, sauna dance and socializing.
Please use this LM  as your taxi to the event. I hope to see you there:)

Akoviani”Guide From Beyond” with Karima

Well…this is the music that inspired my latest poem,”From Beyond” I am so very proud to be part of it and that Akoviani chose me to read excerpts from this beautiful Rumi poem. It’s hard to be objective about something you are also involved in, but for me, this piece should be heard by thousands, not hundreds. Please listen to it on YouTube and leave LIKES and comments there and here. Let’s help Akoviani get this amazing and inspiring piece of music out to the world. Pass it on, share it on fb and Twitter and let’s get “Guide From Beyond”  to be heard everywhere. The message and the music are truly healing and magical….let yourself be taken by it. A good headset is my recommendation for listening to it… Don’t forget that:) Akoviani is in Romania and I am in Costa Rica..and here we are together:) For those interested in how we met, please see the post, “Catharsis and Serendipity” Help spread the word and let Akoviani know what you think of it.

From Beyond

sensual-women-dance-art

‘Diaphanous Muse’ (2013) by William Oxer

From Beyond

for Akoviani

Clear-eyed she channeled the universe in the middle of the night.
Sometimes it took a special beat, a certain hypnotic twist of wrist,
when the matrix door cracked open; only then… she could begin.

Music, like manna, had to fall to her ears, loop her into ecstasy.
Feverishly and unconsciously each note turned into stars and scribbled nebulas;
whoever started the wheel rolling, she just kept it going.

If she thought at all, the process she rode, would let her fall.
White -outing her mind, she swayed, to let the letters play in the rain.
Mouth tilted to the sky, she swallowed a poem whole…until, out it flowed.

Not every composition held her kind of verse inside, or made her sigh.
Not every creative vessel, was her magic flute, her juicy fruit.
Not every sheet of music, uncovered her muse, and coaxed her into dance.

Paper Thin

Fleeting Moment by Sugar Mints-DeviantArt

Paper thin, I’m barely here, and you no longer see me.
The night breathes in and out, out and in, with windows open wide,
just an alien, walking through a rational land; it’s getting lonely.

Those who glow seem far away, while darkness holds me close.
I remember all the voices, how we bent as one, falling to our knees,
hospitable and always generous, food cascading from our hands.

My home planet, circles another sun, a trillion billion miles from here
order and chaos alternately reign, and yet we know the Love.
The last time I departed, I knew it would be a lifetime to return.

Paper thin and light as air, I miss the other ones who float like me.
I get lost in all those memories, all those rituals, traditions and epiphanies,
waking before the dawn, knowing there is something that listens… when I say thank you.

Ramadan 2017

Ramadan Mubarak! (Blessed Ramadan) Ramadan Kareem! (Generous Ramadan)I invite my readers to look at this ad made by an Arabic telecommunications company, Zain, that portrays beautifully and powerfully the true spirit of Ramadan. Our religion has been hijacked for decades by a dedicated group of terrorists who have warped and turned upside down the true beliefs of Islam. The video is in Arabic with good English subtitles. I hope you will enjoy it..and for those who celebrate this holy month, my best wishes for a generous and blessed Ramadan.

Safe in Spring

Male-American-Robin-on-nest-©-Ann-MacRae 2

                           Male-American-Robin-on-nest-©-Ann-MacRae.jpg

I still have hope..even against everything I read and hear on the internet.
The Robins in my garden are building nests..
They chatter to themselves busily…hauling building supplies
back and forth.
Some unwound yarn strings, dry strands of who knows what, or
where they found them;
dead useless things are being recycled into baby bird incubators and bassinets.

Spring is a time to take hope.
New things bloom and old things reincarnate once again
Robins and Tanagers stay focused on the needs at hand.
Working feverishly, flying over there and building over here,
Soon the rains will come in earnest.
Babies will be hatching among the twigs and fibers, feathers, and their siblings
safe and warm in their nests.
They are shielded by their parents who rotate their shifts,
one staying home and the other looking for food.
Thunder cracks the silence of the afternoon and small rain drops begin to fall.
For just a few minutes, I feel hopeful…
as safe as a baby robin,
peering out from the safety of its’ nest.

Rob Steenhorst’s Art Book-Sporting Life

This seems to be my week of “Show and Tell.” 🙂
I don’t mean to be blowing my own horn too loudly, just as luck would have it, two collaborations that I was lucky enough to be part of, were presented to me in the last few days.

I received a beautiful copy of Rob Steenhorst’s book, in the mail, of CGI images that span 20 years of his art from 1998-2016. It is the perfect coffee table book, so that is where I put it, after I read the excellent foreword and the interesting miscellaneous offerings at the end, inspired by various, writers, thinkers and even a machinima maker, I took my time and poured through the excellent imagery; there is so much to see in each, so many subtle details.
IMG_3949

Six of my poems are included alongside thumbnails of the images that inspired each one. I am honored and so pleased to be part of this beautiful book, that chronicles the art of one of my favorite artists, both personally and artistically. Rob’s dedication on the first page, is something I will always cherish.
IMG_3938
Rob helped me to become a better and more intuitive Ekphrastic poet, one who is stimulated into poetry by visual imagery. Not all paintings do this to me, but in Rob Steenhorst’s case, there were 5 of his paintings that haunted me, until I could express what they made me feel, through poetry. He has included these at the end of his book and one more that was a personal gift, that I wrote just for him.

I am including below, how you can purchase this book, and I can tell you that it is indeed worth having in your collection. Thank you Rob, for including me, and thank you for sharing your unique talent with all of us in Second Life (as Rob Barber) and with the world!
