I want to extend a very special invitation to my readers, neighbors, friends and those who love their poetry mixed up with an open-ended 100% (Dj’d by the poet) Set of Tom Waits tunes. If that sounds like a good idea to you, then please join me on:
When: Saturday Feb. 1st
Time: Karima is on stream from 2pmslt-2:30 ( give or take a few minutes)
Tom Waits marathon begins right afterwards.
I will be taking requests, dedications, and reading some interesting quotes from Tom in between the music. Anyone who says stuff like this, needs to be periodically quoted:

“Most people don’t care if you’re telling them the truth or if you’re telling them a lie, as long as they’re entertained by it.” Tom Waits

All this will be taking place at my new-old Bar:
Kari’s Bar and Dance in New Toulouse Second Life.  Click Landmark

If you enjoy what I do, or haven’t heard me yet and are curious to see/ or if you just love Tom Waits and want to hear this tribute to his music;
JOIN US! Saturday Feb. 1st 2pmslt

20’s dress always greatly admired but not mandatory….Just Come!

The Pale

cxbn

in my dreams…

I want to call the dead back to life.
In the hugeness of data…somewhere they must be found,
And attract all of those souls by changing energy
Reassembling them in my dreams…in my dreams.

I want to shake the living that wear-out their shrouds
Years before they’re needed; who walk so sadly through the night
More dead than alive. When I watch them, I know love kills as well as revives.
I will put them back together, in my dreams…in my dreams.

I don’t have time for those lectures and really neither do they.
Time, when you are waiting, makes a minute seem a day.
What power do we have to change the currents anyway?
It’s all death, those still walking and those who’ve been laid away.

I wish that hope came in green bottles, and you would drink with me
We could promenade the midnights until you believed;
That around a corner, instead of tears, or a tomb, was your better destiny
and I would be the witness that love found you, in my dreams…in my dreams.

The dead can walk and talk and haunt, we all know some who do.
They come to leave us messages and pound to get in before the sun is up.
We cry for them and with them, and drink their hopeless cup,
But when I open up the door, I see them smiling, in my dreams…in my dreams.

You Have GOT To See This!!

Come See It Before it Ends!

Come See It Before it Ends! Last day January 31st

I know. I know…I talk a lot about Natascha Randt in my blog! Usually it is because we have just made another movie together, but sometimes, like today, it’s just to invite you to share in her wonderful creative gift and her collector’s passion in Second Life.
I wrote a post way back when (digs it up from 2012) “Just Say Yes! pt2”
about Nat being a total “Transportation Queen,” and since then, I am sure she has doubled her collection of boats, planes, land vehicles, helicopters, you name it. If it moves, Nat has it.
Sooo, when The Linden Endowment for The Arts (LEA) was looking for a worthy recipient of a full sim for a month, Nat was chosen, and she wasted no time setting up her amazing exhibition. I have decided to not include the videos or photos, Nat has been making about it, to entice you to come personally and see her beautifully laid out and unique collection of transport. Her first love is aviation, and her airport has a tower to explore, and so many planes and helicopters, it will make your head spin. She dedicated the whole show to her good friend and fellow aviator, Walt Faulds, who passed away last year.
It is a stunning tribute both to him and to SL Aviation, the designers and builders of things we fly and float and ride. There is a temp rez where you can rez your own vehicle and take a spin over the drawbridge, down the highway,or take off on the runway.
Here is your safe taxi to get you to the airport on time:
Nat’s LEA 15
Thank you Nat for sharing this passion with us all!!
Avies! Come see it before it ends.

Tukso Okey @ Kari’s Bar and Dance~ Grand Reopening! Jan. 17th 9pmslt

Poster

Poster by Scottius Polke – Orginal Tukso Poster by Menubar Memorial (tweaked by Padula Bing:)

If memory serves me well, it was the very same musical genius, Tukso Okey, who played the last Live show at my bar in March of 2010, Sooo……it’s very fitting that he will be the first to play for the reopening on Friday, January 17th, 9pmslt.
Kari’s Bar and Dance reopens in the pre-Mardi Gras mood, and I cordially invite you all to join us and have some fun getting into theme too. Kari’s is loosely set in the 1920’s-30s of  New Orleans. I say loosely, because the music of Tom Waits can be heard blaring from the porches. There are no RP police in New Toulouse, so you can come as you are, but if you feel in the mood, dress up in style and enjoy an hour of the amazing Tukso Okey, “Groove Master” Exceptional, and get in the groove with us all.
Here are some many posts, videos, and pictures I have blogged about Tukso in the last 3 or 4 years. Take a peek at a few:

Hope to see you all there on this Friday at 9pmslt! It’s going to be a good time for ALL!

Thanks to Nat, and Claudia222, and Dale, I have some pictures to share of a really wonderful and very well attended Grading Day and my reading that followed. I want to thank everyone who came today, and a big thank you to Varahi Lusch and Beeflin for allowing me the opportunity to be part of this occasion. We had close to 48 avatars present and on my stream 50! Below is the link to hear the whole reading if you missed it, and below that, I will include some great photos.

Scottius! The One and Only Otter in My Life

Scottius- Opening Day on "The Docks"

Scottius- Opening Day on “The Docks”

I admit it! I love an otter..I love his talent, his humor, his loyalty, creativity, his amazing art and his great wardrobe. That is why I was so pleased to see the latest Drax File was dedicated to him, the one and only Scottius Polke (Scott Rolfe )
My Sim is filled with his Art,my years since 2008, filled with such great memories of times we shared, and my own poetry has been many times inspired by him or his works. One time in particular, his installation, “The Docks” moved me so, I stayed paralyzed in a rocking chair there for maybe six hours, while a poem was being born about it. In the video there are a few pictures I took and some snips of the words of the poem, below them as captions. For those interested in reading the whole poem click here: “The Docks”
Now I proudly present, The Drax Files- World Makers- Episode 15:Scottius
It was time that this very special otter was honored with such a video!
Drax did a great job, and Scottius shone in both lives:) Blows a kiss to her fave otter…
Enjoy…and pass it on., This too makes me so proud to be part of our beloved Second Life.

Planning on doing nothing, is sometimes the best way to have fun!
We proved that last night as we “impromptuly” celebrated not only my Rez Day but also MJ Zaurak’s (one year younger)

Karima Reads For Grading Day @ The Companion’s Guild~ Saturday the 28th 1:30pm slt

My first

My first reading on stream on April 21st 2010 was for The Guild!

I was so scared, soooo nervous, that I wore my podium…really! It was attached to me, thanks to a clever builder friend Nikita. Just as stiff as you see me above, is how I felt. The mysteries of streaming, and balance, delay and bitrates were still newly challenging passages  for me and what I was feeling the moment I stepped into my podium and  went paralyzed in my pose..was beyond stage fright. I did finally get used to it all, and came to love the audience connection live and immediate that this form of reading offers. Now three and a half years later, I am invited back to give a very special reading this Saturday the 28th at 1:30pm slt. I will quote the High Priestess Varahi Lusch who tells a little more about the event.

“Come and join the Firefly Companion’s Guild as they celebrate their end of term Grading Day. Hosted on the Dakini Land island on what will be the last main event on this beautiful sim, the Companion acolytes will be rewarded with the colours of their new grades. Come celebrate with them and listen to some great music, hear live poetry by Karima Hoisan, watch the dancing of the beautiful Yoshiwara Geishas and participate in our lively boat race!! All welcome, please bring a friend or two :)”

I will be performing many new poems and the reading will be only 30 minutes, so please come earlier and stay for it all. I hope to see you on this beautiful island this Saturday!
Just take this flight:

Hope to see you there!

Ahh December…A Month of Anniversaries and Milestones

Now, December 26th, it will be six years, that Karima was sitting, reading in her garden……read on

Karima Hoisan's avatarDigital Rabbit Hole

It was four years ago this month,  Karima was sitting, reading in her garden, most likely a book of verse, when someone said to her,
“I am watching the Discovery Channel on my television and they are talking about a strange virtual world, they call it Second Life.”
Luckily she was reading on her laptop (smiles) so she put in the address he told her, and before she knew it, she was yelling from the garden to the house,

“Oh what fun, I will make an avatar, and choose a name.
I am going to be “the girl-next-door model”
“What do you think of the name “Karima Hoisan”?

“Ha ha I am learning how to fly.”
“I just had a conversation with a parrot”
“This looks pretty amazing… Come see!”
I took the first photograph of myself, which would be the first of thousands, and not knowing how to use…
