Memorial To My Delusion

I invite you to listen to my recording of this poem. I wrote the music too and it is to be performed live at my next reading. It is more of a listening piece than a reading one, so I have decided to not post the words yet, as I am hoping you will take the time (about 4 minutes) to hear it read over the music that was composed for it…and Enjoy!!
Just click on the .mp3 link below to hear it:

Underwater Love

I invite you to listen to a romantic and beautiful song by Amr Diab called
“Te’dar Tetkalem” “You Can Speak For Yourself.”   Just Click the title link and enjoy!

“Bring the romance when you descend…”
“Underwater Love” by Isabel Hermano

“Underwater Love”

Inspired by the Iphoneography  “Underwater Love” by Isabel Hermano
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Bring the romance when you descend
the subtle seduction that ebbs and bends.
Held in your arms, your words and steps
have become my midnight sea,
and in the deep that you posses,
there sings a siren -song,
held in your arms, is where I long to be.
Show me how to breathe again in these sad waves of days,
I whisper rhythmically inside your ear.
Hold me up before I drown, then hold me down,
the water’s salting all around,
and no one anymore is what they seem to be.
The sting is in my eyes, and floods out in memories
when you trace my heart,
It pumps the air of life and hope is a returning boat
where we may recline in idyllic safety.
Just promise you will float back down when you think of me
My Underwater Love.
Trust me when I say I don’t want more,
than your hand upon my lower back.
dancing me along the ocean floor.
When I dove in, it was to never swim again.
I would not have thought to look for you
or anyone, the murky bottom seemed a righteous end.
Now, let the bubbles be our elevator,
un-sink a ship, and float a freighter,
all the baggage I threw overboard
has come back so hauntingly.
I’ve said before upon a different, foreign shore
I won’t repeat those scenes, I just won’t repeat those scenes.
My lips brush across your face,
and that which held no meaning,
becomes our watery sacred  place.
Submerge! This dance begins to swim away with us.
I don’t really care,
I welcome that the water now is everywhere.
Just promise you will float back down when you think of me,
My Underwater Love.
In A Hotel Lobby
“You have my back, From three meters away…”
Please Enjoy a wonderful Arabic song by Amr Diab to put you in the mood. Click the mp3 link to listen: We 3’alawtak
In a Hotel Lobby
for RoseDrop Rust
You have my back.
From three meters  away,
you have my back.
Harlequin floor, I am in black.
My black spike heels stand waiting,
going tappity- tap.
A mystery package fully wrapped.
This elegant face scarf, modesty’s royal guard
allows a subtle downward  cross of eyes
and the floor becomes too busy pattern-wise,
We are standing in a hotel lobby in Dubai
and I refuse to turn around.
“From two meters away, you have my back.”
You have my back
From two meters  away
you have my back.
Your stare is aimed,
between my shoulder blades…
two drill bits
boring holes into deeper curiosity.
You begin to inject your adrenaline
from two meters away.
I wonder how you dare?
I wonder if you are aware
you make my pump speed up?
but I refuse to turn around.
I know, that you are staring below my scarf, at that embarrassing curl,
You have my back
From one meter away
you have my back.
Pocket change for bellboys jingle
an upbeat rush of carts and baggage,
room service trays,.
I know, that you are staring below my scarf
at that embarrassing curl,
like a kite tail down my back,
a desert late afternoon,
with dialects of Arabic, a breathy syncopated tune.
While my small smile begins to bloom,
I imagine that you have one too,
but of course I refuse to turn around.
You have my back.From half a meter away, you have my back.””
You have my back
From half a meter away
you have my back.
Tap tappity tap, my heels switch to the off beat.
I self-consciously sweep that dangling shiny strand
back up where it belongs,
and “Ohhh” it is so hot, to my touch.
Who knows? Who really knows?
How you learned to heat your stare
 a curling iron, that pulls my curl, back down my back.
I reach behind to right it once again,
your breath protests in whispers
while your eyes caress and squeeze my hand.
My breath drops down an elevator shaft
Doors open, tight bells go off unspoken
I walk away,
through revolving glass,
Into the cooling end of a day,
and you knew I would never turn around.
A Re-Cap of Karima’s May 3rd Reading at Poetry Reflections Costa Rica Sims
I enjoy doing poetry readings in Second Life. As a performing poet for the last two years in  virtual salons, and venues, I have come to see that some readings have a magical after- glow. All of them I find rewarding, because as I said in my introduction there on Costa Rica Sims, if the audience  is willing to open up their poetic chambers that all hearts do have, and  just see if perhaps,  some of my words resonate inside them, then they have filled my wishes, because it’s why I am here and keep coming back. It’s about making that emotional connection through music, imagery and most importantly the spoken word.
I will let the photos speak for themselves, but it was another magical event held in the elegant poetry salon of Costa Rica Sims..Thank you all for coming and here are some pictures to share with you, and those who could not make it. I saw there were 38 avies and 42 on my stream. The “more” truly is the “merrier” and I was  energized by the size and apparent enjoyment of the audience. I will include a link to listen to the entire reading, if any who could not come,  would like to enjoy it. Just click on  the link to play my reading of may 3rd. Enjoy!
Love in a Mirror
Who did I fall in love with…was it you?
I invite you to click the link and listen to my recitation of
“Love in a Mirror” music by David Darling
Love In A Mirror
Who did I fall in love with…was it you?
Was it a summing up of things you said and did so well
those small details that I liked for you to do?
Or was it my own image in a mirror,  wishing it were true?
Who did I fall in love with…was it you?
Love in a mirror begins to look more like our own face
as time goes by.
We see what we choose to see,
and mold the other to fit the image we hold in our mind’s eye.
But is it really you.. or is it really I?
Is it more than just a longing to feel and see our own selves more clearly?
Like Humpty Dumpty pieces we find some missing parts of us
scattered in the new friends that we meet.
Something in the way they smile or extend a loving hand
makes us believe,
if we were to pull them closer, we might feel more complete.
Do we need a million pieces to make us less empty and less broken?
At some point do we see they are not pieces meant for us, nor merely tokens?
Love in a mirror is not really a love story that involves two
It is what we choose to project about someone who is still unwrapped and new,
who has yet to disappoint us by revealing their darker selfish hues,
and that they too are looking to find in us, their own faces back, reflecting
Who did I fall in love with…was it you?
Was it a summing up of things you said and did so well
those small details that I liked for you to do?
Or was it my own image in a mirror,  wishing it were true?
Who did I fall in love with…was it you?
Not Goodbye
She never learned to fly that high
I Invite you to click on the link to listen to my recitation of this poem  Not Goodbye.mp3
Not Goodbye
For Hoyt
Well this is not goodbye, and you know that un-caged bird
that always perched so close to you,
so that every whisper your heart unveiled she heard?
She never learned to fly that high,
not so high you could ever think it truly was goodbye.
How could you ever doubt, how deep you run inside of her?
She stayed fulfilled as you fed and made her strong day after day
with poems from your lips, all those stories and loving her so long,
your voice was always a watch tower that protected, soothed and calmed
and made her think she could let her own, escape her heart,
and sing to flocks that began to know the timber of her fledgling song.
There are those days, when we doubt everything, and every price we paid.
Reality and dreams collide upon a shore that lies somewhere in between.
That’s where you found her, flapping, broken, and took her in,
 alongside a river, alongside an emptiness that wasn’t being filled in,
and you cared for her, and you made her think that she could fly again.
Her song today is just for you, for you to know she knows how bonds do grow.
They stretch until the breaking point, then snap back tighter than before and strong.
Her heart beating, with wings now a flutter held in open hands by you,
 she took off and flew, and let the winds carry her to places a little far away,
and you?
You were her rock, her solitary refuge, you were the voice that called her home.
You were the one who smiled when she laid the words she found right at your feet.
Well this is not goodbye, just because you saw her climb and fly.
 You know that un-caged bird that always perched so close to you,
so that every whisper your heart unveiled, she heard, who hung upon your every word?
She never even tried to learn to fly that high,
not so high you could imagine it was the last time you would see her,
and that what she was really doing… was saying goodbye.
Run Down
"Here, I saved an hour just for you"
Please enjoy my mp3 recording of Run Down, that I recite to the lovely music of PAIO, “ISTAR-3.”
Run Down
Time cuts out the best parts, the ones we don’t  find time for.
It speeds up when we grab some hours, and turns endless when the clock ticks alone, and we are under its sad spell, counting minutes.
The good times come too fast, they fly in on overnight tickets and fly out with the dawn.
Painted pit stops in our on-going race of romance,
and even though we are jet setters, time travelers,
we do know enough to copy chats and quotes and to take the oddest photos
“What a good time!” we say to ourselves,  and try to hold its memory.
Desperate to recall a really nice time, we save prudently for when the empty ones roll in to fill  the days.
Like rations, we nibble desiccated kisses, hours that were transformed into sweet plump minutes and then were gone.
We try to ingest it over again, for famine sweeps the land and makes our hearts get scratchy dry, and we hunger, for fulfillment and we search the face of Time and see a traitor holding out its  hands saying,
“Here I saved an hour just for you.”
Time is running out.
I wound down a few times now, but I’m still around.
That’s the problems with those keys…they are made for someone else  to turn.
 No one wants to watch a doll slump over in her dance, in a crowd of wound-up dancers.
Oh Time…
I try to squeeze something for me out of you..but when you don’t have anything to give,
I feel my years like empty grain sacks hopelessly pillaged.
